The Mind Of OverlordTomala

The Deckening

I spent today playing “What can I play on my Steam Deck?”. So far I’ve only had two games not work for me, but they were not on the verified or playable lists. I’ve been spending the evening pumping as many games onto the SD and built in storage as I can. 😛 It’s gonna be great being able to play during lunch breaks again. I stopped carrying my gaming laptop to work after injuring my back last year, just to make sure I didn’t put any additional strain on it first thing in the morning. Now I finally have something portable, light weight, and I don’t have to re-buy my games on another platform! Epic w00tage!

Now that it’s the weekend I have the options of gaming on the couch with 4K sweetness, or lounging around literally anywhere outside with the Steam Deck doing mad science experiments… decisions, decisions.

I Regret Nothing

My first day out and about with my new Steam Deck was a success! I tested a bit of Sonic Mania, Team Racing, and Stray. All of them ran as if they were natively ported! The battery life so far seems to be holding up. One of my friends joined me for lunch today and they thought it was a Nintendo Switch! 😀 I’ve also been checking out the included desktop mode. It’s a super light version of KDE. Steam OS seems nice so far, but I’m kinda disappointed by the lack of items in their repository. Usually I could just install smb or KDE Connect for networking between other systems on a local network, but they don’t provide those on their repo… I would think Valve would want to put that option in for LAN gaming and network access.

It’s not that big of a deal though… I can always fork it in from another repo! 😛 I did that all the time under other distros when I couldn’t find something.

Current Mood: Japan

Today I got to:

  • Eat Miso Soup for a light breakfast/work lunch
  • Shower in cherry blossoms
  • Drink sencha green tea with blueberry
  • Eat left over zesty noodles
  • Drink a white chocolate matcha with strawberry
  • Light a sacred cherry blossom soy candle for a peaceful rest

It’s finally nice to do some of the things 17 year old me always wanted to do. I remember a time when you couldn’t buy miso soup ingredients nearby, let alone have much in the way of pre-packaged miso. I remember reading about matcha, but not knowing where to get it without buying online. Now a days I can get a lot of this stuff locally and enjoy it to my hearts content! Plus, online options have also become more available and plentiful!

How things change.

The Overlord Sez: Drink Ur Matcha

According to a recent study; Drinking matcha can help you not only sleep better, but mentally function better as well.

The participants underwent cognitive function and sleep quality evaluations, as well as various blood and neuroimaging tests, at the start and end of the trial, which the researchers describe as a double blind placebo-controlled randomized comparative study. At the end of the year, the matcha group, compared to the placebo group, displayed “a significant improvement in social cognition assessed with a facial expression recognition test, specifically, the precision of their perception of emotions based on facial expression.”

As a celebrated tea drinker I see nothing wrong with this! I’ve actually started drinking some matcha sweetened with monkfruit in the evening recently, and maybe it’s a coincidence but I do have an easier time waking up in the morning.

Tomala’s UNREAL Indie Gaming Weekend

Today was a productive day… for my gaming collection! I got all of the achievements in AMID EVIL, and I even decided to play a little bit of Abyss Odyssey for the heckuvit!

Since I spent most of my last weekend sifting through video footage, I figured I would give myself a true break from it and chill in a couple different gaming worlds that have been collecting digital dust on my digital shelf. Now I won’t have to touch AMID EVIL again until The Black Labyrinth DLC releases. As for Abyss Odyssey? I’m not sure if I’ll ever complete this one. I like it, but the controls feel a little clunky. I imagine if I do complete it it’ll be somewhere between now and old age. 😛

Cloudpunk & Chill

swag

I escaped into the world of Cloudpunk this evening, and with style! I got to sprawl out on the couch for a few hours to explore, continue the story, and achievement whore like no fucking tomorrow. It was fun! After visiting the Wikipedia page for Cloudpunk I’ve discovered that it’s available on pretty much all platforms, so I’ll have to mention this one to a couple of people at work. I think they’d like it too, it has the right atmosphere, it looks beautiful, the dialogue is well written and the characters are fun.

As soon as I finish this game I’m probably going to give it a high recommendation. But completion will have to wait for another day, there are many other games that call out to me at the exact same time! 😛 Like I was telling a co-worker friend of mine; I have the backlog from hell.

On the flipside? I’m never bored! 😛
