Konami? That’s Not How SteamOS Works…

I’m not sure what compelled Konami to make this announcement; other than maybe other developers prepping their games to be Steam Deck friendly… But they released an announcement the other day about the Castlevania Advance Collection stating the following:

Before purchasing this software, please be advised that it cannot be played on Steam Deck as it does not support SteamOS.

For the record, it does run under Linux/SteamOS just fine with Proton. It’s quite evident that Konami has no idea how Proton works under SteamOS/Linux. Hell, they didn’t even bother to try testing it themselves with a Linux distro, or ask a third party to verify that it works. Also, out of all of the games they’ve released on Steam, why did Konami choose the Castlevania Advance Collection? Quite a few of their other games have been verified to run on the Steam Deck (the Metal Gear games being among them) and they just randomly choose to post an announcement about a game that doesn’t work on Steam Deck… even though it does?

I haven’t played much of it myself, but I can verify that it runs under Manjaro on my Linux powered Surface Pro, which is very similar to current SteamOS. It would have almost made sense if they posted an announcement about a more resource demanding game not working on SteamOS. It would still have been wrong, but at least Konami would have been aiming a little higher, a little more graphically demanding.

Sometimes if you don’t know about how something works, it’s best not to say anything at all.

Sunday Night Open Thread

I don’t have much to write. It’s been a cold blustery day perfect for trying new blends of tea, and enjoying good food and gaming. I played a little more of Postal 4, did a few quests and quit to prevent motion sickness. There was also some server tinkering in Garry’s Mod, and I even played a little bit of the Shadow Warrior games — they look gorgeous in 4K! Looking forward to the third installment! If it’s like the other two games it’ll be a graphical ball buster. 😛

I might have enough energy to go back to making horrifying things tomorrow, perhaps something sharable? 😛

Starting The Weekend By Going Postal

I was in a mood for something stupid this evening, some mindless mayhem to kick off the weekend. So, I scanned through my seemingly infinite library of entertainment, and Postal 4 won my undivided attention. There I went, wandering the deserts of Arizona in a quest for ridiculous amusement, and I was not disappointed by my findings.

The Postal games are basically an over the top comedically horrible open world exploration game, and it’s so bad that it’s good. It’s an open world game featuring innuendos and crude humour from start to finish.

Played for a little over an hour before calling it quits. It was pretty much what I expected in terms of quality (as evidenced in the top left of the screenshots). It’s quite an interesting universe, somehow able to be both beautiful and ugly at the same time.

Even the game knows it can go as low as buttsauce!

Aaaaaaand now it’s the perfect game.

How To Irritate People: Wear a Mask AND Colour Coordinate

I was minding my own business one day (no really I was!) during my lunch break. While browsing the candy section I could overhear a couple getting triggered about people who colour coordinate their masks with their outfits… which I’ve been doing. We’re supposed to be lifting the mask mandate in my state soon, but I plan on wearing mine still. Aside from the obvious it does help my allergies, and I haven’t had a cold in a couple years. In light of that I’ve been collecting all kinds of masks, ranging to game themed to just patterns and solids. This week has been a Mortal Kombat mask themed week, and tomorrow I’ll finish it off with a Dragon Mask.

Perhaps a mask fashion show is in order. 😛

Creative Warmth

I forgot that I had this particular scene to work on before commencing what I call: “Operation Batman Diary”. Fortunately it’s small; I’ll probably have it ready to render tomorrow. I was kind of wanting to render it tonight to keep the room warm; Once again we’re experiencing the “Coldest Winter Ever” and this would have been nice to warm to sleep.

Oh well… It’s just kindling for tomorrow night I guess. 😛
