Before moving everything over to the new system setup I decided to play musical chairs with my mechanical hard drives. I’m retiring two 2TB’s and a 4TB that are showing signs, and it’s a good idea to get things onto new drives before they give up the ghost. So far I’ve gotten two of my video scratch drives onto one new drive with room to spare, and now I’m working on moving over my Audio Video libraries from the old 4TB onto a new 4TB. I foresee it doing file transfers while I sleep tonight, but I don’t mind the additional heat this time of year.
I just looked at the label of one of the old drives I finished emptying, it has a manifacture date of April 2012. Though the drive itself only got about six years of usage. Overall a good run given that these are enterprise drives.
