>Bratwurst in sour cream sauce

Here’s something I made today from “Foods of the world” German edition.

Bratwurst in Sour Cream Sauce:

8 Bratwurst
1 cup of Sour Cream
2 tbsp of butter
1/4 cup of cold water
1 tbsp of flour
1/2 tsp of salt

Boil two quarts of water and place the brats in the pan. Then take the pan off of heat and let them sit int here for 2 minutes. Get out a large paper towel and lay the bratwurst side by side each other and pat them dry if necessary. Get out a large skillet and melt the butter, then add the brats. Keep turning them until all sides are a golden brown. Add the cold water to the skillet and reduce the heat to a simmer. Simmer uncovered for about 10 to 15 minutes. If the water gets too low add a few tablespoons to the skillet. Take the brats out again but this time put them on a plate and cover them with the tin foil. Now place the cup of sour cream, salt and flour into a bowl and mix well, then add to the water mixture a few tablespoons at a time, stir the sauce around until nice and thick but don’t let it boil. Now cut up the bratwurst into 1/4 inch rounds and add to the sauce. Baste them with the sauce until they are heated through. Then serve.

Serves 4. Or 1 hungry pig.

You can also sautée some onions and/or saurkraut and adding it to the dish for more flavor.
