While I was at work today I had the pleasure of chatting it up with a customer who was looking for a keyboard. She was looking for one that would help her delve into the world of coding. As we talked the topic shifted over to laptops. She has an old Asus ROG gaming laptop that won’t be able to carry over to Windows 11, which also happens to be the same fate that my old Asus ROG shares. I told her that I converted my laptop into a Linux machine, and recommended that if she wanted to get into coding, or even just wanted to use day to day use without Windows that she might want to consider switching to Linux. I gave her a couple names of some user friendly distros, and some food for thought. She was actually pretty excited with the idea of giving it a try!
Ten years ago I wouldn’t have recommended it, but there have been enough user friendly improvements that make it more possible these days. Especially given the irritating changes to Win 11, and not everyone being crazy about the new co-pilot feature. I already know a few people that made the switch, or switched their friends and family over to it with them not noticing much of a difference.
