2024 was a busy year for my gaming habits. I made an effort to try new things, as well as revisit the old in hopes to conquer my ever expanding backlog. In 2023 I nabbed 398 achievements, which I thought was massive and unlikely to go over that. My mistake! My controller usage decreased significantly, last year it was at 53%. I blame that mostly on the three games listed in the overview. 😛
The spider graph does an amazing job describing my year of gaming. Lots of metroidvanias, the occasional boomer shooter. I do like that it threw in Ninjas and Cats. Yep, I see nothing wrong with this.
Even though my controller usage was down a considerable amount. I did make good use of them with these games when playing in front of the TV (except the Castlevania Advance Collection). All of these games feel best with a controller, although Horizon Zero Dawn actually has a good keyboard/mouse layout. In HZD I had no problems swapping between peripherals.
My Steam Deck usage was also down quite a bit last year, only scoring a 13% of usage vs the 25% I had in 2023. I didn’t really need to travel with it all that much, but it was nice to use on those hot sunny days when the weather made the indoors feel uncomfortable, or those cozy evenings lying under a blanket. Metroidvanias have pretty much become my addiction on Steam Deck.
Now that I’ve looked over my year in review, and also having gone over all the games I finished last year. I can now put full focus on the craziness that is going to be 2025. I wonder what games I’ll finish this year? I’m sure at least two of them will be Metroidvanias. 😛
