The Mind Of OverlordTomala

The stuff tumors are made of

I went out for a walk earlier today (wanted ingredients for some salsa) and I heard one of the neighbors across the street say this to someone: “I’ll have you know that I still own those shorts and…” then my brain shut off immediately to protect itself from a tumor. What the fuck kind of a statement is that to make?

Maybe this can be a game in it’s own right. What would you finish that statement with?

System specs for Obduction

Here are the system specs that you’ll need to be able to run Obduction, as per the Obduction Steam Page:

Minimum:

    • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
    • Processor: CPU Intel i5-2500 equivalent or better
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce 660 GTX w/1GB / AMD 7700 series w/1GB equivalent or better
    • Storage: 20 GB available space
Recommended:

    • OS: Windows 10 64 bit
    • Processor: CPU Intel i5-4590 equivalent or better
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970 w/4 GB / AMD R9 290 w/4 GB equivalent or better
    • Storage: 20 GB available space

It looks like I’ll be able to run Obduction decently. I’m upgrading my GPU from an R9 290 to a R9 Fury, and I have 12 GB instead of 16 on my desktop. So I’ll be in good condition for the release. 😀

World of the optional worker, oh… and Open Thread

Continued my Skyrim hiatus by chilling on the couch today and playing some DMC4, the special edition. Hack n Slash seemed to fit my mood today, especially after getting a call not that long ago that I’m needed to come and work in the morning for someone. Her kids are sick, which is why I decided to take the shift (that and more money isn’t something to shake a stick at), but I can’t help but notice I’ve been having to cover for her a lot lately. She isn’t a slouch, in fact she’s a really hard dedicated worker. But it seems like if she can find a way to get a day off somehow she’ll do it in a heartbeat. And lately I’ve been getting screwed out of having my usual days off. Considering I’ve been slowly getting better while having to bust my ass to cover for these people, I can’t say that I’m a happy camper.

Because of my line of work I can only ever have days off on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Her consistent days off are Friday and Saturday. But whenever she can it seems like she’ll try to get me to do her work on Sundays. She’s even hinted at me that I should learn her job just in case she can’t make it in. Which is funny because when I fired the same thing back to her she declined because my job has too much heavy lifting… And as I’ve said before I’m a difficult one to replace. Only one person in our department can do my job, and he’s the one I was promoted to replace because he didn’t do the job. The only others are managers, and they have their manager duties to tend to… so unless I schedule my time off way ahead of time or if there’s an emergency that prevents me from working, no one can really do my job.

I’ve also been noticing in my near decade of servitude in the life of the average worker that a lot of people (millennials a few years younger than me specifically with some exceptions to the rule) have this mentality that having a job is an optional thing. Lots of people who I’ve come to know over the years are really nice, but when it comes to their work ethic they are not dependable in the slightest. This is a very bad attitude to have in a limited job economy and they can’t see that at all. One of said workers put in his two weeks notice before going on a trip because he wanted to come back and “start fresh”, a friend of mine is struggling at a job right now after already having a few failed jobs under his belt and is considering quitting for multiple reasons I won’t go into, other than to say they can’t take constructive criticism unless it’s always positive, or go a day without anyone complimenting them on their work. In fact I notice that a lot with people who are just a few years younger than me and hell, even people who are older than me. People don’t grow up. I think growing up is only a physical concept.

People these days seem more likely to be mentally stunted, and I thank some of today’s technology for that. Lots of these people I talk with I notice were either babysat by consoles and games, or are people who can’t talk to you outside work unless you have a smartphone to text on. Hell, the one lady I’m covering for complained that I didn’t have a smartphone so I could get her texts about how “she might not be able to come in and work”, because you know… Calling me at home and using your phone as a, you know… a phone, is just soooo difficult.

I have two days off in a row next week. I’m going to be deliberately busy so I can relax. 😛

Obduction gets a release date

Obduction

It isn’t June, but I’ll take it. 😛

Cyan, Inc. the award-winning creators of Myst and Riven, today announced that Obduction, their highly-anticipated adventure game, will be launching simultaneously on PC, Mac and Oculus Rift, and will be available for download from Steam, GOG.com, Humble Store, Mac App Store, and the Oculus Store on July 26, 2016 for $29.99.

Cyan also released a Kickstarter update explaining why the delay:

  • Fit and polish. That extra month gives us some quality time – to up the… quality – a good thing!
  • Unreal Engine 4 updates. We don’t control these, and Epic just released a big new update that changes a few things.
  • Oculus Rift VR version. This doesn’t affect everyone, but it helps us to tie everything into a larger launch event.
  • Avoid industry noise. There are a few big industry things happening at the end of June that our small company doesn’t need to try to shout over.

I don’t mind the wait. Plenty of other stuff for me to do in the meantime…

You can connect your GOG and Steam accounts

An interesting and very neat concept. GOG is working with willing game companies to connect some Steam games to your GOG account.

To connect your library with GOG.com, sign in to your active Steam account via this page. NOTE: Make sure your Steam Privacy Settings & Profile Status are set to public.

You’ll be able to permanently import all the games listed below to your GOG.com library – assuming you own them. The eligible games are limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers, so stay tuned for more games to come.

You can connect only one Steam account with your GOG.com library. This process is permanent – choose wisely!

The nice part is that it doesn’t remove your Steam version, it just gives you the option of downloading it through GOG for future purposes. Which is great if you want DRM free copies. Plus with Steam being a bit dodgy lately it’s nice to have an alternative. GOG and even their Galaxy client are shaping up nicely. It’s already a good place for picking up old games. There’s even a few I have my eyes on, but I’m waiting for a sale first.

For Science

My Skyrim is showing signs of breaking again, so I decided to give myself a break from Tamriel and head to another realm I haven’t occupied in awhile, the Portal universe. I figured it was time for me to rekindle my love of portals and science.

I managed to progress further in Portal Stories: Mel. The puzzles are really quite different from what I’m used to. But I feel less dumb when I solve them. 😀 For a free mod it has great story writing and acting. If you haven’t checked it out yet, do so! It’s actually pretty fun, and funny!

Happy Memorial Day

I had the day off for a change. Didn’t do much apart from sleep and do some Skyrimming. I became a bard!

I was pretty exhausted from yesterday, so pretty much slept most of the morning and day (that and I’m still getting over a cold). I went to the fair and got some watermelon cotton candy which tastes surprisingly good. That was pretty much the entire highlight of the fair this year… What was really fun was going to the local airport, they were giving out $20 rides in planes. I managed to get some footage while up in the air. I’ll get around to posting it maybe tomorrow, or soon. In the meantime my brother got some real nice pictures at his blog of the planes. I managed to snap a few myself.
