Doctors Doctors Doctors

I had an appointment the other day with a doctor for the first time in about 4 years, needed to get something checked and the good news is that I’m fine. I’ve scheduled another appointment two months out for something else. Then yesterday I went into the dentists office to show off my latest setup for their website, which they loved. Other than the doctor had no idea what this was:

So I’ll have to switch it out with another picture, which is no big deal. There’s plenty of free non-copyrighted pictures of that type to choose from. 😀 Also took some more photos for the website, so my plans are going to be real photoshop heavy… that and I’ll be researching some additional plugins. Also they had an opening for a tooth cleaning appointment for next Monday, so that was convenient. Now I just need to get with an eye doctor and I’ll be fully calibrated.

Tomb Raider 2013 finally hits Linux today

Today is a good day to be a Linux user, well, everyday is… but it’s nice to see this game transition over to the open source side.

Now the question, how well will it perform under OpenGL? Tomb Raider was rather taxing on Windows, you needed REALLY good hardware to run it. I wonder how well it’ll handle TressFX.

Blackroom, a new FPS by John Romero and Adrian Carmack

Yep… He’s back in action, but this time he has Adrian Carmack at his side. Two of the former ID Software clan are building a new game called Blackroom, which is supposed to be a throwback to classic FPS gaming but with the epic awesomeness of Unreal Engine 4, and hopefully won’t secretly be Daikatana 2.

John Romero and Adrian Carmack, two of id Software’s founders, have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new FPS, Blackroom. They are asking for $700,000.

The campaign page describes Blackroom as “a visceral, varied and violent shooter that harkens back to classic FPS play with a mixture of exploration, speed, and intense, weaponized combat,” and promises “unique multiplayer maps and robust modding support for the community to make diabolical creations of their own design.”

Sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun, John Romero even released a new DOOM wad to give people an idea of what’s going on. I’m hoping with Adrian on board all the funding won’t go to John Romero’s fabulous hair. But in all seriousness, it’s nice to see people revisiting their roots in the gaming world. The new Carmageadon is great, the new Descent is still in it’s early stages but is looking really nice, and Obduction isn’t out yet so I can’t really say much about it. If anything I hope Blackroom has less drama than certain other kickstarters, and old Daikatana itself.

Back to my irregularly scheduled blogging

Well, I’ve done my parts both at work and designing the website. Looks like I might be doing an overhaul already, on Thursday I’ll know for sure. The Doc wants lots and lots of buttons and beach scenery, one way or another he’ll be getting those. 😀

Freight was extremely small even for a Tuesday. It was all in an extremely small shopping cart, and half of it was stuff we can’t release until next month (movies) and the other half was power cables that we already have plenty of, so I mostly worked the backstock. Which worked out nicely since it appears no one else is really working anything to the shelf it seems. I don’t want to go into detail, but we have ten employees. Three of them are guys who don’t know when to stop screwing off, one that is extremely unaware of her surroundings (and she’s kinda pervy towards one of the managers), one that doesn’t know when to stop talking and get the job done, and a manager that is too busy with his head between a couple of Russian funbags to communicate things properly with the rest of the staff. So it’s no wonder things look like shite when I arrive in the morning lately. Ugh…

Another Open Thread

Spent most of the day in the Gmod Cinema with friends. I don’t really have much else to write about. I’ll probably focus on website stuff tomorrow, I have it all planned out. They want me to work on pictures and buttons. I updated pictures on the site yesterday, so there was some work involved. 😛 I’m not in too big of a hurry… I have until Thursday to get it all done.

This week is actually going to be a pretty busy one. Between normal work, website work, some errands and a doctors appointment I’ll be jumpin’. I’m hoping it all goes well.

Open Thread

Too much has been going on. Yesterday it was a busy work day at both my primary job and at the dentists office. Heck, yesterday my boss wanted to know if I would be on call for today in case one of our flakier employees decided to be a no show, but since I haven’t been feeling well I decided to decline. Good thing too, I woke up feeling pretty sick this morning. But I’m better now, so it isn’t like it’s the worst birthday ever.

Speaking of that, I did get some gifts in the mail today. 😀 Plus the webcam I ordered arrived! I played with that a bit using facerig. Now I really am ready to do some livestreaming. Which of course I did with a bit of Serious Sam.

I’ll try to remain active, but I have some serious web related work lining up for me this weekend. So if I don’t write anything it probably means I’m busy… or just playing Skyrim.

Ready to stream!

After numerous experiments I think I’m finally ready to do some serious-ish streaming. Did some final experiments earlier with some friends watching once again. Even got FaceRig setup so people could see my… face? 😛 I will need a better camera for it though, the one I currently use is an old Sony Handycam that takes old digital tapes. You can tell it’s old because it still uses FireWire. 😛 Still a good camera though! But unfortunately I don’t use it anymore since it’s low res. I’ll probably get a 1080p Logitech of some kind so that I’ll have better face tracking and overall better clarity.
