One of our friends brought over some snacks the other day, among them cherries. In particular, that cherry with the extra… cherryness?
My crazy Skyrim adventures thus far
For my 3 day weekend I’ve plunged myself into the lands of Skyrim. I’ve been going on some bizarre adventures, downloading mods to enhance the experience, and of course doing some light hearted console commands to make things more fun. Some of my fellow dragonborn buddies have been watching me stream my experience. We’re all in agreement, I have one hell of a female khajiit character.
Yes, I am literally the dragonborn… cyborg/human/cat/dragon? The wings are a mod I found on the nexus (it’s also on Steam) that lets you float around with functioning animated wings. You can make a potion at any cooking pot with various ingredients. With another additional mod you can also use a flying spell. Which is funny since I recently learned how to breathe fire and ice.
It consumes a lot of stamina when I use it though. So I had to hack a bit to sustain my long fun flights. Only a tad though.
Of course, even before I found the wings I still had fun traveling on foot. The scenery is beautiful, the quests have been fun (even though so far I’ve been finding them and solving them by accident) and the fighting is always fun. I’ve been doing a combination of regular fighting and stealth.
Stealth has been funny for me, especially when they’re sitting in a chair.
I’ve also learned what it’s like to have a companion, and how annoying it is. I almost always bring Lydia along for my own amusement. She’s like my own personal Kenny from South Park. She’ll die multiple times and then eventually get better. I felt a bit generous though and decided to give her some armor to protect her and a better sword. I found these playermodels at this site. I plan on downloading more, and maybe through some hax magic I might add them to other NPC’s for shits and giggles.
Lots of the mods I installed are ones that I stumble upon while exploring. There are a ton I haven’t found yet, but this one was totally worth finding today.
Yes, I can now craft joints and a dragon bong… Legally! They also have a nice collection of plants… and a guy that stands outside in them enjoying the scenery.
All in all I’ve really been having a blast in this game. I’ve even been reading the books… while streaming my gameplay, if only to prove that at least one person in the United States has some reading comprehension. :v
Amongst the dragonborn
To everyone’s surprise I’ve been playing a lot of Skyrim lately. Of course this time around it’s more fun with the mods I’ve added. I’ve mostly added a bunch of weapon mods, some items of transportation, and a few playermodel/armor options that I found here. It’s especially been enjoyable during my lunches the last couple days. I love riding the ethereal horses and the flying horse broom.
I can tell Skyrim will be one of those games I’ll never quite finish. Or if I do it’ll be awhile. There is soooo much to explore in that game.
I know what I’ll be watching in July
This is good news. I wish it would release sooner, but good things do come to those who wait. 🙂
Keepin’ busy
So far my first official week in my new line of work has been rather smooth, other than my new boss doesn’t really know how to communicate well… but that’s ok because almost every boss I’ve had so far has also suffered from The Peter Principal. I’ve also been buying new things to replace old things I’ve thrown out, getting rid of things I haven’t used in forever. Feels like a good reboot to me. 😀
I’ve also been rearranging my room, something I haven’t done in forever. Started on that last night by removing a furniture piece that I no longer need. After moving stuff around and a lot of scrapes and sweat and wrestling with an old mirror/dresser I got it all looking proper. I’ll still need to rearrange little things like nik naks and other small stuff, but overall I have a good layout. I’m also working on a little side project for later on in the year when Halloween rolls around. Fun stuff!
At some point I’ll need to sit down and write some emails and thank you’s plus other errands that need doing. I’ve been meaning to do that but damn, time has been hard to find lately.
Onto a new journey
Well, it’s official. I’ve switched jobs and am now working in the electronics section of our store. That should work for until I find something better. I’m well liked over there and already know most of the stuff we sell, in fact I’ve sold quite a bit of stock (especially Roku devices and games). So hopefully I might finally get some consistency (well, as much as you can get in that line of work). It’s also fun talking shop with this team too.
I think I’ll celebrate tomorrow by buying a watermelon after work.
So, it’s over… at least on the Skyrim side.
Well, Valve and Bethesda finally decided to revert workshop back to the way it was.
Update: After discussion with Valve, and listening to our community, paid mods are being removed from Steam Workshop. Even though we had the best intentions, the feedback has been clear – this is not a feature you want. Your support means everything to us, and we hear you.
So that’s it. Things go back to the way they are. At least for this particular game. Valve might still do the same thing with their games… I just hope that if any company or indie in the future thinks twice about implementing that type of system. Like I said before, I’m all for people making money on something they love doing, but in the end it all comes down to how you present it. This wasn’t presented very well in the slightest.
They’re starting them younger and younger
I found this to be rather disturbing.
By the time children are 1 year old, one in seven uses a mobile device for at least an hour a day, according to a study presented today at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting in San Diego.
Of children younger than 1 year, 52 percent had watched television shows, 36 percent had touched or scrolled a screen, 24 percent had called someone, 15 percent used apps, and 12 percent played video games.
I can’t say that I’m shocked, this is the world we live in now. TV’s were slowly becoming babysitters for some families for a long time, then the internet came along and that made computers a nice distraction, now we’ve graduated to mobile babysitting… Technology FTW.
My vivid imagination has produced the following: I can see them running into each other on tricycles while trying to text each other… :v
In other news: Yes, people are still pissed about the workshop changes…
People have been speaking up (including popular YouTubers), signing the petition, making joke mods, etc etc. It’s getting so bad that Gaben had to speak up about it.
“Our goal is to make modding better for the authors and gamers,” Newell said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread. “If something doesn’t help with that, it will get dumped. Right now I’m more optimistic that this will be a win for authors and gamers, but we are always going to be data driven.”
Meanwhile, Garry (Creator of Garry’s Nod) is still voicing his opinion in a very professional manner… And by professional, I mean total douchecanoe that can eat a bag of salted dicks.
