The Mind Of OverlordTomala

Evening Open Thread

There probably won’t be much in the way of content next month, other than a couple small gameplay videos. I’ve mainly been focusing between two different SFM projects, so far they’re both tied for the lead. We were going to do some audio recording for the ending of a Tetris video tonight, but ran out of time. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow… I did at least get some animation taken care of on Operation Podcamp (not the actual title). It’s finally starting to look like a proper camping scene, well… such as it is. If I have time I’ll probably toil away at it a bit more tomorrow.

Truly The Year Of Indies

This year has been a good one for supporting Indie Developers. I’ve purchased Whisker Squadron Survivor, Gal Guardians, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Lost Ember, Ultra Kill, Trinity Fusion, and Ex-Zodiac! All great contenders for both PC and Steam Deck. I spent tonight tweaking my Ex-Zodiac Steam Controller config. I enabled mouse aim in game and set the right touch-pad as mouse, and made sure to enable gyro. It feels perfect!

Ex-Zodiac is very Star Fox like. You’re a pilot named Kyuu, embarking on a journey across the Sanzaru Star System to save its planets. Each planet houses an enemy of the terrorist organization ZODIAC, and it’s up to you to destroy every last one of them… or explode trying. 😛

I never had a chance to enjoy Star Fox properly, mostly due to not having a SNES or Nintendo console. So it’s nice to see the genre branching out, if Nintendo doesn’t want my money then I’m more than happy to support indies with their own inspired visions. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something similar.

The Black Labyrinth Awaits

I ascended the tower on the dark coast of the AMID EVIL Black Labyrinth DLC. I always marvel at the thought put into the level design, it’s on par or exceeds the base game in terms of creativity.

The optional Ray Tracing features also render nicely without taking much of a punch to my framerate. Makes for a lovely fighting arena. 🙂

Survived the first boss battle! The Storm Spirit! I slain the dragon with my scythe, planets and other weapons I had at my disposal. It was fun being picked up by the Dragon and getting tossed into the air, it makes me wonder what the other boss(es) will be like.

The scenery has a habit of catching you off guard if you’re not careful. I was surprised by the giant swords that pelted the outside walls of the labyrinth. They were not my enemy though, they assisted me in getting further through my journey. Now I’m at a nice safe location for when I decide to pick up next. 🙂

Selfies In Freedom Planet 2 Are A Thing

While my RGB furnace was cranking out sweet animated nightmare fuel, I was chilling with a bit of Freedom Planet 2 on my Steam Deck! Carol was lagging behind my other character saves, so I gave her a little boost tonight. I didn’t notice the Photo Mode option the last time I played, kinda different for a 2D sidescroller but eh… I’ll allow it! 😛 I think I’m having more fun playing as Carol than in the previous game, her disc throwing ability allows her to gain distance similar to Lilac’s dragon boost technique. I still prefer playing Lilac, but the other characters also offer a fun challenge.

Rockin’ My Friday

Survived Black Friday like a champ – didn’t buy anything either. I did my work, and then got the fuck home, made an after work breakfast and put work into one of my SFM projects. I’m pretty much done animating the audio I extracted; now I just need to come up with an ending to tie it all together, and I think I know what to do. I just need to write it out when I’m not as sleep deprived. For the time being these ideas can spin around in my head like a blender of untamed game theory. I’m thinking this will be ready for early January! Start off the new year with some gameplay and animated shenanigans!

Been pretty much coasting on black tea until now. I’m hoping the chamomile and sleep medicine catch up with me soon. It doesn’t take much caffeine to keep me going for what feels like days. All the more reason why I prefer tea 99% of the time.

Thanksgiving Open Thread

Happy Hollandaise!

Happy Thanksgiving! (If you celebrate) We celebrated our Turkey day a few days early since it’s impossible for us to have it today. I worked, munched leftovers, and am awaiting a turkey coma so that I can rest for my graveyard shift. At least I’ll be able to avoid half of the Black Friday chaos, and I’ll have a lot of free time at the end of my shift (and probably a nap somewhere in there).

Yesterday’s Adventure, Tonight’s Post

Dust discovers a friendo.

Made it to 80% yesterday! Rescued a friend, found another chest and collected some more keys. I would have played a little more tonight, but it’s been one of those days where I find myself busy from before dawn to after moonrise. I’ll make up for it tomorrow by making time to play something completely different.
