Didn’t complete this chamber tonight, but I’m getting a better idea of what I need to do. I can tell the answer is right in front of me, but the fog of fatigue seems to be clouding my vision. I’ll need to return to this one when my brain is slightly more awake.
Another Retro Evening
Think I rode out the last bit of my DOS Gaming kick with some Commander Keen 2. Didn’t get very far though – kept dying in Mountain Dew. Thus ending my DOS Gaming Spree… for now. I’ll probably play something slightly less retro tomorrow. 😛
One Episode Down!
Finished Episode 1 in Duke Nukem 2! I had fun trying to figure out how to thwart the endboss with limited ammo supply, but I fucking did it! Now it’s three episodes to go, when I get around to playing again. 😛
Duke Nukem 2 isn’t currently recommended for the Steam Deck, not enough testing, and it does require keyboard input for naming saves and scoreboard; but even when DOSBox is running through Proton it has no issues with the Steam Overlay. So far this is looking like it’ll get a thumbs up! I still need to finish the whole game though, just to share more of the experience! It would be cool to see some of these games garner more attention.
One of the things PC has over Console is the ability to go back in time and play any game we feel like playing. We don’t need to dig out old hardware. Sidescrolling games are still popular today, so it would be cool to see more people checking out the retro stuff.
Serious Sam But We’re Playing GMod
Some footage from a GMod session we had in Serious Sam’s Egypt! We accidentally created a monster and messed a couple things up. You know, the usual…
Duke on Deck
Man, these DOS Games look so perfect on the Steam Deck! DOS era game UI’s have what feels like a perfect fit on the screen. I made it to Level 3 in Episode 1. I immediately remembered why I took a long break from Duke Nukem II: The Damn Spiders…They latch onto you and drain your life until they kill you… unless you shake them off by pressing left and right over and over. Something about playing it on a smaller device made it less annoying, probably because this was a another series I would have loved to see on a handheld during childhood. It’s nice to give Duke the true D-Pad Status.
Not Outta The Woods Yet
I’m one week in and already I’m halfway into animating the ending! Should probably have it wrapped up in a week or two. The last couple of days have been mostly scene building, will probably take a break from it for a bit over the weekend. Really liking the cozy vibe coming from this scene, and don’t worry… we won’t burn down the forest. 😛 Not yet anyway… Plenty of that shit going on in the real world. 🙁
All The Bandicoot Ladies
Went on a small Bandicoot adventure tonight! Rescued a mask, died a ridiculous amount of tines, and even got to play as someone new-ish!
You get to play as Tawna! Well, kinda… she’s from another universe. Instead of getting captured, she actually deals a good chunk of kickass to enemies, literally. She also has a grappling hook thing that can also be used for punching baddies and far away crates. I played one of her alternate timeline missions tonight. I think I got enough out of my system for one night, even played a little linger than expected… damn dying.
A Little Slice of Heaven Before Bed
Took a Neon White break tonight after a shower and some cherry blossom tea to get in the right chill mood. I recorded my run of the Sprint level scoring Ace Rank! It can be found on Mastodon.
Late Evening Open Thread
Worked, napped, ate dinner and enjoyed some fireworks. Did a tiny bit of melon magic, maybe a bit of a game… and now I’m winding down with the fireworks. Hope everyone is having a good 4th!
Unless you’re one of the asshats pleading the 5th about the 6th… Piss off.
More Samurai Adventures
Finally got through Chapter 3 on Steam Deck without it blowing up this time! I lowered the graphics settings to medium and locked the framerate to 60, so far it seems to be maintaining. I’ll have to see what Chapter 4 holds next time I’m in the mood.
