The Mind Of OverlordTomala

Oh Look a Video!

I posted a small clip from BloodRayne 2 over on Mastodon if you want to check it out. I’ll probably do a full compilation at some point for YouTube, but for now I’ve decided to post shorts on Mastodon just to share and see what happens. 🙂 Speaking of videos I’m getting closer to the light at the end of the animation tunnel! I’m thinking just a couple more evenings and I’ll finally be able to render the end! More on that another time though… it’s time to chill on my Steam Deck and call it a night. It’s been a good weekend, but I need to get my stuff in order for tomorrow.

Today’s Sunday Drive Was Successful

IT RUNS!!! IT ACTUALLY RUNS!!! I mean, it’s a bit blurry in the distance if you run it in 4K but… IT RUNS!!! I had to uninstall it a long time ago when I switched from Intel to AMD, but it looks like they patched it at some point. Now hopefully there’s a future fix for the additional blur, and some random shadow glitching. It was nice to play it again at least.

Back To The Calamity

Bastion being welcomed by his sky fam.
When you’re here, you’re family.

Scrolled through my endless list of entertainment and decided to chill with some Bastion on Steam Deck! Apparently I’ve been away long enough that they threw me a small welcome back party!

Something Borked

I was tackling one of the Proving Grounds when it displayed this error. The .Net and Micrsoft XNA framework were enough to clue me in to the fact that it was defaulting to the Windows version, via Proton. Thankfully the native Linux build pulled through perfectly, and I was able to score 1st Place in one of the Proving Grounds.

This one was a real Mother to figure out. You have to destroy all of these targets, and if you want 1st Place you have to destroy all the targets with only 5 arrows. It was a pain in the ass, but eventually I nailed it! Now I’m giving my hand a break after attempting the Smashy Smashy Proving Grounds. I made 3rd and 2nd Place, but I can’t seem to smash 100 objects in under 27 seconds… perhaps if they were all watermelons I’d feel more inspired.

Your (Sometimes) Friendly Photo Ninja

Decided to do something SLIGHTLY more modern tonight… and there was no skimping on alllll the stabbin’! I finished a couple of missions, earned a new weapon and some in game reading material for later. There was also an achievement for helping 100 demons do some acid… damage. Also, since I’m an awesome ninja I also snapped some pics in Photo Mode.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for Photo Mode. 😛

Another Level Down

Managed to finish another level in Commander Keen 2! Took me several deaths but I at least accomplished something in the ol’ backlog. I like kicking back and playing it on my deck while listening to tunes. I was talking to a friend about these old games, he didn’t get to grow up in this era, so he didn’t get to hear what old DOS games sounded like:

Praise Party God for Sound Cards.

A Buggy Evening

This section has been a bit buggy (no pun intended, this game has a fair share of bugs). I can make it past this point, but sometimes the enemies don’t always do what they’re scripted to do, like explode. There should be an explosion here…

If I don’t get through this area, at least I have some entertaining footage to go through later.

Feeling Cosmic

Today I decided to tackle the 2nd Episode of Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventure! Another fun one for my Steam Deck

There was a lot of dying on the 2nd level (I’m a snob for trying to get as many stars as possible), but I did make it safely through the wild mushroom jungle. Maybe now that I have it on Steam Deck I’ll finally have some patience to finish it! I’ve already made it farther in Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen than ever, so it only makes sense to add this gem to the roster.

Saturday Indie Arcade!

I gave Sayonara Wild Hearts a full playthrough. It only takes about an hour to play, and it’s pretty easy (unless you’re going achievement hunting, that will add on a little extra replay value). The game features a kickin’ soundtrack that becomes easy to lose myself in. You start out skateboarding, then surfing on a tarot card, and eventually you’re sword fighting, riding motorcycles and shooting lasers. In a small amount of time you can do so much!

Afterwards I decided to revisit the Whisker Squadron Survivor Demo that I picked up during the last NextFest. They’ve been pushing regular updates to the game, adding in new features. I spotted some new powerups and a different enemy. All good things to discuss in a future post! 😛
