One last screenshot of Soul Calibur VI before heading back to reality tomorrow. Made it to Level 43! If I have time tomorrow I’ll probably give SC6 a break and maybe try to finish Shantae: Half Genie Hero, unless a plot twist crops up. This was my personal reward for starting an SFM render. I’m hoping to have things wrapped up by late April or early May.
An Angry and Fashionable Cabbit Girl readies her blade.
Made it to Level 27 in Soul Calibur VI! I started playing it on my Deck this morning, moved over to the Big Screen TV PC in the afternoon, then finished off on my regular Desktop. It’s nice to be able to progress in a game that I only have to buy once, and I can enjoy it in a multitude of ways. I did more reading up on the modding scene for Soul Calibur VI, and it looks like it has quite the modding community! That’s something I’ll save for another post. I had a wonderful time mashing buttons to my hearts content.
Then later this evening my ol’ buddy Yutram and I dipped our toes into the world of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. It was just the right price during the current Steam Sale, so it only made sense to give it a shot. After all we did enjoy Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep (Which if you haven’t played it yet, you totally should), so why not?

Unlike the previous Borderlands games, you can make your own custom character from scratch, which can produce some interesting results. Especially when you travel the Overworld:
The Overworld.
We had such a fun time casting spells and collecting enchanted weapons, we made it to Level 4! We’re only just starting off but this already is looking like a lot of fun. It captures the humour of previous Borderlands games – I always like listening to the ridiculous lines the enemies spout as they’re attacking, they probably had the most fun writing up all the dialogue. We’ll have to make another play date for this soon!
I forgot how fun the character creation in SoulCalibur VI is! My old save evaporated and I was forced to begin from scratch, but I still had fun in the process.
I’ve already made it back up to level 13, and for the most part I remember how to play. I spent a bit of time with it on Steam Deck tonight as well; apart from a graphical glitch in some of the fighting cutscenes it is very playable on Deck. I’ve decided to keep it on there – maybe if I keep playing it between the two systems I’ll be able to finish it. Perhaps I can turn it into a fashion show in the process. :v
I celebrated with corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, working, DOOM Eternal, etc. I’m saving the real partying for tomorrow night, it’ll be the start of my weekend! I’m already plotting my weekend breakfast, something with the large amount of brown rice I cooked for stir fry the other night. Maybe I’ll make a healthy bibimbap! I already have most of the veggies.
Finishing off the evening with a white chocolate matcha latte. It doesn’t have any booze in it, but it is green.
I’ve only had my Steam Deck for about half a year now, but it’s been daily driver status since the day it arrived back in August! In case you happen to be in the market for a handheld PC, here is a list of regularly played games on Deck:
Abyss Odyssey
Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night
Commander Keen (Complete Pack)
Cloudpunk
Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Freedom Planet 2
Horizon Zero Dawn
ICEY
Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series
Okami
Outland
Overload
Portal Reloaded
Shantae: Half Genie Hero
Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Super Tux
Trine
Yakuza 0
I seem to have a better time playing Metroidvanias when I’m on the go, and it also handles most of the 3D games I throw at it – even modern ones! My back has gotten tired of lugging a gaming laptop around for daily commutes. It’s easier to just pick it up and play whatever you want in the palm of your hand with just a button press, and in some cases it even doubles as an effective hand warmer and social shield from asshats.
I’ve been wanting a handheld gaming system for years, and the nice part is that I don’t have to rebuy any games. I can even download them directly from my desktop!
Overall: I give the Steam Deck 9 Sub Sandwiches out of 10!
I ran Deus Ex GOTY on my Steam Deck tonight! So far it seems to be running fine in OpenGL mode! I downloaded a controller template someone made for it on the workshop and have been reworking it more to my liking (adding gyro and swapping a couple buttons around.) But so far it seems to be running fine out of the box! I’m running it on my SD card, where I keep lower powered indie games and retro titles. I never had this game growing up, gotta make up for lost time!
Shantae in her mermaid form, being followed by her fanclub of Starfish.
Finally began my journey to the hideout of Risky Boots! The water level kinda reminds me of the scrolling Mario levels, but with added mermaid power! Which is excellent because there was a lot going on the screen. I picked up some friends along the way, and they helped me destroy my obstacles to help me get to the next area:
Shantae gets ready to play an extremely tense game of Hot Lava.
Now it all comes down to using everything I’ve learned in all the other levels. As the end draws closer, I’m relishing every moment drawing closer to it! I’ll have to leave off in the lava underground… running tonight’s SteamOS update kinda took away from my playtime.
In the distance is a Church, and not of the partying variety.
It’s been a few years since I last touched this game, not because it’s a bad game… it isn’t! I just have a really large distracting collection to sift through, and it fell into the cracks. Something about the rainy weather and chai made me want to pick back up on it again, and it didn’t disappoint!
For today’s boss battle: I fought Chomper; the swimming demon anus. I have to admit, it almost killed me… not because of how tough it is, no… I couldn’t stop laughing at the sound it made:
It’s more funny than scary to me for some reason. It’s just not the noise I was expecting! It sounds like he’s looking for someone named Bob. Why is a demon anus looking for Bob? Inquiring minds, etc.
Much like with AMID EVIL I really enjoy the level design. There’s just something cool about flooding a castle for a swim date with murderous demons and cultists. I’m just a few levels away from beating the third campaign, and I still need to finish the first two! :v For some reason I have saves for all three episodes. My next goal will be practicing playing this on Steam Deck. I’ve already mastered it on Steam Controller, the only way I play FPS on the couch…
Once again Horizon Zero Dawn has consumed my precious time like a quickening. Did a bunch of side quests, made it to Level 5, and I have over 10 stealth kills to my name! I’m going to need some rest before I tackle the next big machine tho.
