Granted, I work in retail. And I hate seeing people buy shit just to use it for one weekend. But this takes it a little too far, especially for legitimate returns.

Actually, I don’t see much of a problem with this. If you don’t want things, why buy them?
I’ve actually had to make some of my own returns. Not because I didn’t want the item, but because it didn’t work properly or it had something spoiled in it that made everything else about to. I’ve had to return a pair of shoes that had the bottom fall off in a couple days (got replacements though), a sack of oranges (there were a few in the middle that rotted), milk that tasted like olives even though the expiration date was still a ways off. Oh, replacements are fine, over here you are entitled to a new product if the one you bought is faulty, and if they cannot give you an equal product, they must give you the money back. If you just regret a purchase, you are not entitled to anything, but most shops will let you return the item in exchange for a different or for credit, provided you have the receipt and usually within one week.
