I Completed A Game!

I was in a more chill mood for gaming, as opposed to the last couple weeks of fun violence and dick jokes. Not only did I beat the game, but I 100%’d the shit out of it!  Got all of the achievements, and even gave a friend a little tour of the game via a private stream. AER: Memories Of Old might not have much to do other than exploring, but it’s beautiful and calming enough to get away with it.

If you’re looking for a game to just chill and explore in, this is a beautiful game to do just that. You can spend hours flying from island to island, and uncovering a story that’s almost as fragmented as the world itself. My only complaint is the lack of replay value, now that I’ve fully finished the game that means I’ll actually be able to uninstall it! Rarely does a game achieve that status on my computers. 😛

Light At The End Of The Sanctuary

I made up for last weekend in spades. I had a small breakfast sandwich, cleaned up my digs a bit, patched up a shirt, and last but not least I put some scented fucking candles on and played a bit of AER: Memories Of Old. It took me awhile to remember what I was doing, but I did eventually find Eventide Sanctuary — and even got an achievement! There really isn’t very much to this game, but at the same time it has a lot going on. Lots of land to traverse on foot and as the crow flies, and there’s quite a bit of story to read and piece together throughout your travels. This will most likely get a recommendation from me once I finish the game, when I’m able to pick it up again. 😛

Compared to last week this was the perfect day.

Up In The AER

I tried AER: Memories Of Old for the first time today. I would call this a walking simulator, but unlike other walking simulators this one has a crucial difference – you can turn into a bird at will. This comes in handy since the entire world is made up of floating islands.

At the start of the game you find a lantern that hasn’t been lit in half of forever. Using the lantern in certain areas can reveal secrets of the past:

You don’t fight or try to evade anything, but there is a lot of exploring and sight-seeing. The music and overall atmosphere is also very relaxing. I played this on the couch for several hours today, and gave it another hour or so on my main desktop. It isn’t a hard game per-se, but if you just want to zen out and do some sight seeing, this game will prove far more gripping than Dear Esther. 😛

In all seriousness this did make for a nice zen afternoon for gaming. Nothing but me, the couch, some tea and snacks… and it’s a party.
