Razer’s Project Valerie looks interesting, however…

I like the concept, as someone who runs with dual screens when I’m at home, and I think it would be pretty sweet to have multiple screens for a wider view or even extra places to put chats and recording programs, but that design… The motor that deploys the extra screens will wear out eventually. If they came up with a way to connect the displays to one another as optional pieces. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about another set of failing components down the line.

Another problem I have with it is the keyboard/touchpad layout. It makes sense to me to have it in the center to make room for the numpad, why did they take it out and put the touchpad there?

Overall I say Razer has a good idea with the displays, but the implementation… I guess in due time we’ll see how it holds up.

A McDonalds Employee making $21 an hour?

Well, at least in Denmark. Also the teenagers over there start out at $15 an hour.

I work for McDonald’s and I make $21 an hour.

No, that isn’t a typo. It’s really my salary.

You see, I work for McDonald’s in Denmark, where an agreement between our union and the company guarantees that workers older than 18 are paid at least $21 an hour. Employees younger than 18 make at least $15 — meaning teenagers working at McDonald’s in Denmark make more than two times what many adults in America earn working at the Golden Arches.

So they’re being paid a living wage AND McDonalds is still in business? Color me fucking shocked! The local McDonalds here is practically a retirement home. There are literally more elderly folks working there than teenagers. I wonder how many of them read that article…

I’ll be sure to tell people about it though. Hell, I had one customer today tell me about a friend of his from a different store in another town and how they have special benefits and such. He instantly assumed that I would have the same and seemed shocked when I told him that was a union store. He said “You shouldn’t have to rely on a union to get better pay and benefits”. I just don’t understand… People seem to make the constant mistake of thinking a company will look out for it’s employees. Now, there are some companies that DO in fact take care of their employees. However, those are few and far between.

People can say what they want about a union. I’d love to have a fixed set of hours that don’t change or don’t drop. Seems like less of a pain compared to understaffing, cutting back, then calling people in at the last minute to try and cover a job because they were too busy understaffing and cutting back. Well… if you’re not a big CEO type. I’m sure I heard their teeth chattering when I mentioned teenagers in Denmark making more money than most Americans. 😛

Why not just say “Put down the fucking cheeseburger?”

My insurance sends out emails from time to time providing health advice, and the one I got today made me roll my eyes. Today’s email was called “Put down the pastrami.” Let me offer you part of the email I received.

And walk away from the salami, bologna, and bacon, too. Often filled with preservatives, many processed meats have been shown to negatively affect your health and well-being

Shorter insurance: You are what you eat. Eat all these fatty meats and eventually you’ll be just like any other fatassed American.

Most store-bought processed meats are made with sodium nitrate or nitrite to prevent spoilage. These preservatives, in large quantities, have been shown to increase the risk of certain cancers. Need another reason to find healthier options? Many of these meats also have high saturated fat levels and can put the bulge into your waistline.

You mean all those bacon wrapped hot dogs smothered in Carmel sauce I’ve been eating AREN’T helping me lose weight? God damn it. Why didn’t they email me sooner?

Don’t fret – you don’t have to give up pepperoni pizza and hot dogs altogether. But moderation is key.

Nooooo really? I thought I could eat all the pizza I could ever want and live forever…

Be mindful of what you’re putting in your mouth. If processed meats comprise a large part of your daily meals, make an effort to substitute with natural foods such as fresh chicken, beans, and low-fat dairy. Because if you get a heart attack we probably won’t cover it.

The part in bold was a fix of mine… I like to help read between the lines whenever I can.

If I want health advice I’ll go listen to a nutrition specialist. Not some fucking insurance company that hardly covers any medical and profits off of sick people who can hardly afford it.

Not even the MOUL forum is this anal.

I’m glad I don’t buy from EA.

In what appears to be a tottaly unfair practice, it appears EA are banning people from accessing their legally purchased copies of Dragon Age 2 if they were vocal about their displeasure regarding the game over at the official Bioware forums.

Now that’s just great, don’t like what a person is saying about your company or product? Ban them… Excellent way to do business.

Electronic Arts to focus on PCs

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Deep breath

AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Ahhhh this is hilarious. EA happened to be one of the companies that wanted to go strictly console, and now they want to go back to the PC. This is funny, very very funny.

I read the news today…oh boy.

Cunningham wants to revoke the parts of current state labor law that say kids under age 14 can’t work and kids age 14 and 15 can’t work more than three hours a day on school days, more than eight hours on non-school days or before 7 a.m. or after 9 p.m. She thinks teens should be able to work late-night jobs at resorts, restaurants and motels. And she’s sponsored a bill, S.B. 222, referred to the state senate’s general laws committee on Feb. 10, that would enact the changes.

http://www.alternet.org/newsandviews/article/475205/missouri_gop_wants_to_repeal_child_labor_laws/

# children under the age of 14 no longer being limited in being able to work;

# children being able to work during the school term without a permit;

# 16-year-old children being able to work in hotels and motels without restriction on hours;

# the removal of restrictions on employing 16 year olds and requirements regarding obtaining certification and permits for children to work;

# the elimination of authority of the Director of the Division of Labor Standards to oversee employers of children;

# the removal of an evidentiary presumption that any child under the age of 16 present at a place where labor is employed is employed there.

Yes, we don’t have enough unemployed people over here. Lets not only add more, but pay them less than minimum wage!

God we are stupid…

I’m glad I have tomorrow off.

We had a man tonight yelling at one of our stock room doors with a list of dog food he wanted. The problem was that no one was back there, and even if there was someone back there we’re not familiar with that sort of thing. Usually someone will open the door a bit and ask if what they want is back there. This man was expecting to yella t a door and expect people to bring out what he desired instantly. To make matters worse we didn’t have what he wanted.

Crazy…

Throughout my entire shift today there was a old homeless man who kept coming back a few bags at a time to recycle cans and bottles at our bottle return machines. The machines make it more than clear that you insert cans or bottles into it. He mostly had milk jugs, mayonnaise jars, giant vodka and juice bottles though. He also wanted to know how to “start” the machine… Clearly you just insert the can or bottle to get it to work. When it didn’t take one of his cans I asked him what one it wouldn’t take (We don’t take iced tea cans for example) and he has no idea what it says… Turns out he doesn’t know how to read either.

That was enough to make me thankful to at least have a job right now.
