Serious Sam: The Friendly Encounter

Hai guys

One of my favorite things to do at the start of Second Encounter (Fusion Beta 2017) is to lure enemies into the lake. They don’t know how to swim, and eventually they’ll explode into blood or pretty flowers and fruit depending on how you have the game set… that’s usually how it goes anyway, with the exception of this fellow.

Dat ass

I tried to entice him to go after me, but all he wanted to do was stand around,. I did manage to knock him into the water thanks to another Gnaar and strategic placement.

Of course, the Gnaar wasn’t the only one being friendly with me. I made my way through the canyon and ran across this guy, standing around not doing his fucking job of trying to kill me!

Fill my eyes with that double vision

Yo Dawg I heard you like steam so I got you more steam so you could steam while you steam.

So I was minding my own business, switching over from Windows to Linux to begin working on compiling another video when I decided to launch Steam as I usually do, and ran into a random bug that causes the system to halt while the client updates (seems to happen randomly). When I regained control of the system I noticed Steam wasn’t running still, even in Task Manager. I launched the client again, and when it popped up on the screen I noticed another window on the left monitor; the update window usually seen before the steam client even launches. I was intrigued enough to see what happened next, and here it is. Two instances of Steam on the same operating system. For the hell of it I installed the Windows version of Steam via Play On Linux and managed to get a third client running for shits and giggles:

Wine can sometimes lead to multiplying

Some interesting side effects when running more than one client. You’ll notice the linux client on the right is offline, but I was actually able to type a status and then refresh the page on the left linux client. Unfortunately the client on the right froze on that status screen. What was funny was that the Windows client had the same issues, but thought of itself as online.

My only remaining question is this; can I multiply the 17 cents in my Steam wallet and place them into one client?

The Darkness II Has An Air Vent Issue

There’s an air vent that you have your Darkling buddy climb into, and he uses his powers so you can see from his perspective. You use his tiny body to traverse through the vents, but the game won’t let you walk past an invisible wall. This is caused by a similar issue that I found in the PC version of Killer Is Dead, an issue tied with framerate. If your game is getting more than 60 frames per second you’ll be stuck until you enable V Sync. I tried enabling it in game but it only seems to work when running in windowed mode, and setting V Sync through my Radeon Software (Windows) doesn’t seem to help. But switching it to Windowed, getting through that area of the level, and switching back to full screen seems to have worked. I’ll have to try this on Linux to see if Proton will make it run any better, just as an experiment. I might also try tweaking the configs to see if I can get it to enable V Sync in fullscreen mode by changing some convars in one of the ini files, or running a borderless window program. If you’re reading this and have had similar issues check out this link.

Other than that particular snag I’m really enjoying the game! I survived the interrogation scene and have chosen that as my stopping point until I pick up the game again; Hopefully I don’t run into anymore issues.

Lara Croft And The Temple Of Amnesia

I’ve been meaning to play this for quite some time (preferably with friends) and was lucky enough to do so this afternoon. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered a bug that seems to randomly happen on certain systems that prevents the application from saving your progress. :zorak: I read around and discovered this bug has existed since release, and for whatever reason the devs never bothered fixing it. There isn’t even word of a fan patch that could fix the issue. Shameful…

This game had potential (I say had because it has pretty much been abandoned), and I was hyped to be able to play with more than just two people even with it being as buggy as it is during multiplayer. Oh, and surprise surprise it appears the console versions didn’t share these issues. :zorak:

I’ve uninstalled the game for now. Additionally I could install someone’s save file, or delete a particular folder, start the game, change a setting, and move some save files to get it to work… but I could invest that kind of time into playing and modding games that actually work. I guess I could test this on my laptop or the HTPC. If it works I could always play local coop with my bro.

I wanted to continue with recording the game to continue this style of series:

Alas, twas not meant to be I guess… I’ll have to apply this style to another game, if I can find something comparable.

Current impressions of the DMC1 PC Port

Not the very best at hide and seek…

One of the games I wanted to get for my new old PS3 was actually an HD Collection of the Devil May Cry games, but literally the day I was looking on Ebay for them I heard news from one of the sites I follow that a PC release was planned. Now that it’s here I’ve taken the time to finally play it… outside of an emulator.

I’m making a faithful attempt to play them in the proper order, and so far I’m noticing some bugs compared to playing it in an emulator. In the start of the first level there is an ambient soundloop of the wind off the ocean, and it cuts out for a moment before it restarts which it isn’t too big of a deal, but it kinda (and I hate being one of those people) breaks my immersion. How come the sound is better in PCSX2 than in this port? I don’t see how this could have been overlooked when porting it over. Another small gripe I have is with the screen resolution, because apparently in 2018 some companies still feel that 1080p is the biggest resolution necessary. Fortunately this can be fixed easily by editing a text file.

Of course it doesn’t break the game for me, but like I said it’s pretty annoying. I’m hoping for Capcom to patch these issues or wait for the fan community to work on the fixes and higher resolution textures, as the textures in game are not in HD and upscaled instead.

Other than those gripes DMC1 still remains to be quite fun, and is definitely a better port than their first PC port ever of DMC3 they did, this is at least playable out of the box compared to the early days of Japanese ports. I’m sure with some modding it’ll turn out fine. :melon:

Obduction Stutter Showcase

It’s been about 5 months and Obduction still has a stuttering issue. I’ve finally sent in a dxdiag report to Cyan with a link to my YouTube video showcasing stutters and lag. I have it public for anyone else who would like to see it:

Considering you spend a good amount of time exploring, wandering back and forth, and observing the environment for clues and stuff this gets annoying on the eyes after awhile, I’d hate to imagine playing it in VR. For the quality no one should be stuttering or lagging like that, especially on cards like mine 4GB and up.

I’ll also note for the record that I’m not the only one who is annoyed by the stuttering, even YouTube caught onto it right after I uploaded the video:

As flustered as I have been for wanting to play the game without the eyesores that did make me smile a bit. It’s funny considering I’ve never had this request for gaming footage before. 😛

I found a Serious Bug

Decided to continue my adventures in Serious Sam. I never played much of the HD First Encounter (unless you count the First Encounter DLC inside of HD Second Encounter) so I decided to have a go at it. I was greeted by an interesting bug:

On another note I also took the time to customize the game on my gaming keyboard. I mean after all I have the games all perfectly customized on my Steam Controller. I need to stop neglecting my Serious Sam keyboarding! And let me tell you this is one Serious Setup.

SamProfile

No longer do I have to raise my hand higher on the keyboard to do a quicksave. Ha!
