From Horizon Zero Dawn to Dusk

In the distance is a Church, and not of the partying variety.
In the distance is a Church, and not of the partying variety.

It’s been a few years since I last touched this game, not because it’s a bad game… it isn’t! I just have a really large distracting collection to sift through, and it fell into the cracks. Something about the rainy weather and chai made me want to pick back up on it again, and it didn’t disappoint!

A demon known as a Chomper.

For today’s boss battle: I fought Chomper; the swimming demon anus. I have to admit, it almost killed me… not because of how tough it is, no… I couldn’t stop laughing at the sound it made:

It’s more funny than scary to me for some reason. It’s just not the noise I was expecting! It sounds like he’s looking for someone named Bob. Why is a demon anus looking for Bob? Inquiring minds, etc.

Swimming in a flooded castle.

Much like with AMID EVIL I really enjoy the level design. There’s just something cool about flooding a castle for a swim date with murderous demons and cultists. I’m just a few levels away from beating the third campaign, and I still need to finish the first two! :v For some reason I have saves for all three episodes. My next goal will be practicing playing this on Steam Deck. I’ve already mastered it on Steam Controller, the only way I play FPS on the couch…

Some Penguin Approved Gaming And Chill

I kicked back today with a good breakfast, a little photo work, and lots of Linux gaming. Took a bit of a break from using Proton to play some native Linux TF2 and Dusk. Apparently in Discord it reads that I’m playing hl2_linux instead of TF2, that made me chuckle a bit. The last time I played TF2 under Linux it kept giving me stack errors, nice to see they’ve fixed it.

I prepped my laptop on the Linux side for some fun lunch time shenanigans tomorrow. Since DMC5 runs so well on my Manjaro desktop setup with pure AMD hardware I want to see how well it runs on my laptop with Intel/NVidia. I did a quick test launch and it automatically detected the best settings, always a good sign! It even sees the proper refresh rate (144hz). Should make for a fun, scientific lunch break. I also installed a few Portal 2 mods in case I wanted to do somewhat actual not actual science.

Tonight’s Aesthetic: Old School

I made today a check out some new-ish games day today, and figured with all the awesome news I’ve heard about DUSK lately that I’d finally give it a go, after all I do like AMID EVIL and old school style FPS.

In this game you can dual wield not only pistols, but dual shotguns as well. I’ve already found a reference to Evil Dead in it, and the game doesn’t seem to disappoint with the amount of secrets I somehow keep missing… giving me all the more incentive to go back and try it all again. There is an option to go online and play with other people, unfortunately when I looked no one was on.

I mainly stuck with singleplayer, and even finished off the first boss. I might consider playing it next weekend, or possibly bring it with me to work for a lunch break game. I can say much like AMID EVIL that if you like old school FPS games like Quake or Unreal this is one to consider for your collection.
