A Day In The Half Life

I’m adding Half Life to the list of games I’d like to finish between systems. I installed it on my Steam Deck and as expected, it works perfectly. I also played it on Desktop tonight. Even at 4K it has a certain charm about it that I can’t quite describe. My only problem with some of these older games is the eye strain I get after awhile…

Forever DOOMed

Bethesda recently remastered DOOM and DOOM II for modern consoles… which means my Steam copies of the original got a free upgrade! I decided to check it out tonight. While I prefer GZDoom it does look like it has potential. You can load mods, it runs at modern refresh rates and more modern controls. Of course, the most important update obviously has to be the achievements.

From what I can tell not many have checked out the new shiny version of the old school. All the achievements I got tonight are still considered rare, even for the easiest tasks. Maybe that’ll change in time, who knows… I’ll probably install this on Steam Deck at some point for some portable progression.

First Impressions Of Deus Ex: The Fall

A few years ago I decided to pickup Deus Ex: The Fall during one of the many Steam Sales. It is one of the most negatively reviewed games on Steam, but for a few bucks I figured someday it would pique my curiosity. It received a lot of flak for being a port of a mobile game. As a result the graphics aren’t exactly polished, and the game itself leaves off with a “To Be Continued” message upon completion, as repeated in the many reviews I’ve read. So, how bad is it?

Deus Ex: The Fall takes place in the same universe and timeline as Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You play the role of Ben Saxon; a mercenary in hiding after some shit goes sideways. After going through a basic tutorial in the form of a flashback your friend and partner Anna Kelso in a safe house. Both of you are augmented, and there is currently a Neuropozyne shortage; something augmented beings need to prevent cybernetics and other body augmentations from being rejected. Saxon has to set out to find a supplier, or even an alternative that isn’t quite legal yet.

The graphics aren’t really anything to write home about. Granted, this is a port of a mobile game that was ported to PC minus the microtransactions. There is no jumping, which is weird for an FPS, and the NPC’s are slightly more diverse than the original Half Life. As I walked through Panama city I found multiple NPC’s that were identical all the way down to the shirts they were wearing. Other than that it handles quite similarly to Deus Ex: HR. It offers the same options for combat, multiple dialog choices and reading material like in the previous games… making me wonder why I didn’t choose to play those instead?

As I read in the reviews, this game only has about four hours of gameplay total. So this will be another one that I’ll be taking very slowly, just to savor the few dollars I pissed away to be able to play and tell a short story about. 😛 I’ve already left a note for my future self so that I’m hopefully not too lost.

FLESHLIGHT OF DOOM

Over the decades I’ve seen DOOM run on a plethora of devices that I never envisioned them running on. Stomach bacteria, ATMs, clocks, a thermostat, and many many more devices… but now we have a new contender!… until we get another even crazier device that can run DOOM.

You can now play DOOM on a fucking fleshlight.

YouTuber Aaron Christophel has done quite a few hardware hacks in the past. He previously got Doom running on an electric toothbrush. In a video this week, Christophel showed the 1998 landmark FPS running on the masturbatory aid. He includes a link to where he purchased the device in case any other folks were inclined to perform the same hack. Of course, that’s the only reason.

The earbuds are a nice touch ngl.

Bounty Hunter: One Day Only

Today I was in a good mood. Good weather, good work day, good things to eat and drink, and play! Decided to pick back up High On Life again after giving it a bit of a break. Found more chests, saved some human cargo and completed another bounty. I got enough of a fill of it to give the game a bit of a rest for now.

Tomorrow I’ll pick another form of entertainment from my endless collection.

Booty Call

I didn’t have time to start the next bounty, but I did have fun hunting for booty and chests! Tonight I had fun taking my jetpack to new heights! (Pun Intentionally Unintentional). Currently backtracking in the slums, found a few chests and destroyed some generic baddies.  It helped quell my vengeful soul this evening, though the tea might also be helping with that.

Jetpackin’

Yesterday was a digital trip down Memory Lane. Today I opted for something more modern and more disturbing… but I did unlock the Jetpack! I mostly went around looking for chests to open using my new found ability. I’ll probably do something a little less mind numbing tomorrow… maybe Portal Reloaded.

Came For The Game, Stayed For A Movie

Last night I went to play High on Life, and ended up having a Movie Night instead. I purchased a Warp Disc; Warp Discs allow you to teleport other worlds to you. This particular one allows you to visit a movie theatre. Yes, an ACTUAL MOVIE THEATRE.

With a full MST3K style heckling to boot. I wasn’t planning on staying for the whole thing, but I had fun listening to the commentary of Demon Wind. There are also 3 other full movies that can be watched in game, something to save for other nights. I wanted to get back into bounty hunting and finding chests of intergalactic pesos.

Aside from obtaining a few achievements tonight, I also made a new gun friend during my adventures. She has the ability to control time and can fire gems that are as explosive as her attitude. I think I have one more weapon to befriend and I’ll have the full set.

Enjoying An Unreal View

It’s been quite awhile since I had the urge to open up Shadow Warrior 3. Currently in the process of scaling a dam, and will still be scaling that dam next time I open the game. I was going to play Aragami tonight, but I only had 30 minutes to spare. I figured  half an hour of mindless mayhem would fit the allotted time, sipping green tea along my short journey.

Oh well. Leveled up my health and chi. Made sure to park at a checkpoint not infested by demons before calling it a night. It’s always annoying to start a game with an ambush, unless you’re the one ambushing! 😛
