Can Cross “Defeated Giant Spider” Off My To Do List

I can’t remember the last time I harnessed the powers of light and dark during my lunch break, but that’s what I did today. This was a game that I started last year but have yet to finish like the many other titles awaiting me on the Backlog Mountains.

For lunch I had a beef and vegetable soup, and a side of Outland with an extra helping of Spider Boss. They call her The Mother of eyes, she for certain was a Mother to defeat. I wasn’t successful during lunch, but I did manage to finish the battle tonight after a nice shower and some tea at my side. Next time I play I’ll have new territory to cover!

I’m thinking for tomorrow evening I’ll take a break from video stuff. I did a lot of that over the weekend to prepare my latest YouTube release, and I’m thinking about finishing up one of the games I’m close to ending.. just need to figure out what one. 😛

Ending My Evening In The Outland

Other than last night’s Baldur’s Gate 3 session I’ve mostly been gaming on the Steam Deck this weekend. Yesterday I stayed warm in bed and played a bit of Metal Gear Solid, and tonight I returned to Outland! It’s been awhile since I’ve touched this one, but I made up for it by finishing a couple boss battles and even gaining the ability to charge into things. I still need to obtain the launch pad feature. Once I do that I’ll backtrack and see what I’ve missed.

GO TOWARDS THE LIGHT

There was a severe lack of sun in my life today, and what little of it was witnessed lacked any warmth. So it only made sense for me to chase a fictitious sun, with no other reward other than a couple achievements and some computer generated warmth. I also played a bit on Steam Deck while doing a couple more SFM renders. One of these nights I’ll have to check out the Steam Workshop, they have quite a few custom maps to choose from! But like many other games in my collection, it will have to wait another day. Gotta keep a healthy rotation!

Race The Sun & Shoot For The Moon

I got Race The Sun as a freebie I can’t remember how long ago, and I only remembered it when I started getting into Whisker Squadron Survivor when I realized they were the same devs. A few sales ago I even picked up the additional night flight DLC, it was cheap and given that I got the base game for free I figured, why not?

My day lacked much sun. It was a film noir kind of day, fit with the sound of rain and the perfect atmosphere for sloshing down warm beverages. So the idea of racing the sun was an illuminating idea to me. It takes some getting used to, especially since I’m used to the Whisker Squadron layout. But each round I always made it a little bit further! Each new attempt was a new chance to explore the vast landscape of blocks and collectables. It was a nice way to end the evening.

Fun way to kill an hour. 🙂

Finding That Rainbow

Settled down tonight with a bit of Trine. I even got an achievement for using each character’s ability in one level, and I triggered it by turning into the Knight and falling onto a skeleton! I had a busy day of work, although I did stop at a new tea shop after I got off work today. They make really amazing milk tea! I went with a friendo for some authentic boba. Now I’m enjoying some peppermint tea before bed, tasty and helpful with inflammation.

You Know She Mad

She is such an Uber-Karen to fight! I’m going to enjoy it when I finally take her down. So far I die when I make it to the part where she goes Ultimate Moon on my ass. I did manage to get two boss battles in today to lead up to this point, one of those was during lunch today. Who knew I could work well enough under the pressure of only having an hour to kick Serpentine’s ass?

Kickin’ It New/Old School

Was feeling more in an indie retro vibe kind of mood tonight. It didn’t help that I played a bit during my lunch break on the trusty Steam Deck to get a little practice in.

I’ve told a few people at work about this game – that and Whisker Squadron Survivor. There have never been many Star Fox like games, so when I found these it was an instant yes for me. I never got to grow up with Star Fox, only ever got a taste of it when I was over visiting family as a kid what felt like a century ago. At least indies can help bridge that gap. 🙂

Option Of The Double Edged Sword

They recently added the option of cursed choices in Whisker Squadron Survivor that act as both help and a hindrance. It can make the game even more chaotic and interesting. So far I’ve only experimented with one, it kept presenting me with good regular options that were too good to pass up. I did three runs, survived one. I wonder how much will change the next time I play?

Flaming At The Heels

Took out some frustrations in Hades tonight. This game makes for an excellent punching bag when under the right conditions. A warm game of Hades, mixed with some eggnog chai after a nice relaxing shower is a good way to unwind before plummeting onto the bed to endure my own version of Hades come tomorrow morning.

Truly The Year Of Indies

This year has been a good one for supporting Indie Developers. I’ve purchased Whisker Squadron Survivor, Gal Guardians, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Lost Ember, Ultra Kill, Trinity Fusion, and Ex-Zodiac! All great contenders for both PC and Steam Deck. I spent tonight tweaking my Ex-Zodiac Steam Controller config. I enabled mouse aim in game and set the right touch-pad as mouse, and made sure to enable gyro. It feels perfect!

Ex-Zodiac is very Star Fox like. You’re a pilot named Kyuu, embarking on a journey across the Sanzaru Star System to save its planets. Each planet houses an enemy of the terrorist organization ZODIAC, and it’s up to you to destroy every last one of them… or explode trying. 😛

I never had a chance to enjoy Star Fox properly, mostly due to not having a SNES or Nintendo console. So it’s nice to see the genre branching out, if Nintendo doesn’t want my money then I’m more than happy to support indies with their own inspired visions. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something similar.
