Atop The Mountain Of Outland

Gave my Steam Deck some much needed love tonight after I got home. I haven’t been taking it to work much, and even when I have I haven’t really been playing it. I either don’t have time during lunch to play, or have been so interested in reading on my tablet that all gaming activities can just wait until I get home. It just felt nice plopping down on the bed and playing a bit of Outland. The last time I played was back at the start of the year, my how time flies…

I gained a couple new abilities, and even thwarted a boss battle. I only died a couple times, then continued to die multiple times more during my adventures. Tonight I finally unlocked the launchpad ability! I’m looking forward to visiting past areas to see what I’ve missed. Might find more hearts and orbs to make me stronger, who knows?

Can Cross “Defeated Giant Spider” Off My To Do List

I can’t remember the last time I harnessed the powers of light and dark during my lunch break, but that’s what I did today. This was a game that I started last year but have yet to finish like the many other titles awaiting me on the Backlog Mountains.

For lunch I had a beef and vegetable soup, and a side of Outland with an extra helping of Spider Boss. They call her The Mother of eyes, she for certain was a Mother to defeat. I wasn’t successful during lunch, but I did manage to finish the battle tonight after a nice shower and some tea at my side. Next time I play I’ll have new territory to cover!

I’m thinking for tomorrow evening I’ll take a break from video stuff. I did a lot of that over the weekend to prepare my latest YouTube release, and I’m thinking about finishing up one of the games I’m close to ending.. just need to figure out what one. 😛

Ending My Evening In The Outland

Other than last night’s Baldur’s Gate 3 session I’ve mostly been gaming on the Steam Deck this weekend. Yesterday I stayed warm in bed and played a bit of Metal Gear Solid, and tonight I returned to Outland! It’s been awhile since I’ve touched this one, but I made up for it by finishing a couple boss battles and even gaining the ability to charge into things. I still need to obtain the launch pad feature. Once I do that I’ll backtrack and see what I’ve missed.

Fighting Through Light and Dark

I Found The Great Wall Of Oh Fuck

Went dancing through pretty shapes and lights in Outland! I gained the laser ability and destroyed a bunch of jellyfish. Apparently I got a “rare” achievement for finding 10 collectables. Although, looking at the global achievement stats for Outland it looks like not many have finished this game. Thanks to the Steam Deck though I might change that… a little. I seem to really like playing Metroidvanias on it, it just feels right.

As simple as it is in design – it does present a fun challenge. Time is literally everything in getting through some of these obstacles. If you’re red (dark) the red beams won’t hurt you, same if you turn blue (light) and run through the blue beams.

Timing, it’s everything.

Meanwhile… On Steam Deck

Back into Outland! And The Overlord’s heart grew six sizes that day… When you’re a klutz like me that’s a good thing. 😛 I didn’t get to play for too long, but I did uncover new ground and even found a secret in a previous area. Like with most metroidvanias I imagine I’ll be doing a lot of backtracking.

Beating Down The Backlog: Outland

Made more progress in Outland today! It took several tries, but The High Priestess was no match for The High Overlord! It was a tough battle, but eventually it became kinda like a game of Simon to me, only if you fuck up you’ll die.

Bonus: I CAN TELEPORT NOW!!!

Still Feeling That Metroidvania Itch

Taking a break from one pummeling and getting through another one. In this case it’s Outland! I made quite a bit of progress! Increased my health, and now I can harness both the power of light and darkness in the name of getting more achievements!!! Bwahahahahahahaha!
