Dawning of a Dying Light

Got some cobwebs dusted off my eternal gaming backlog tonight, and kept it Spooktober themed in the process! Tonight I tested my mettle at Zombie Parkour in Dying Light. I made it past the first level, did a little city sight seeing and even grabbed a few achievements. The controls took a little getting used to, but it’s basically Dead Island: Parkour Edition (it’s even developed by the same company). It also has co-op and mod support! It’s also a Deck Verified game; I might have to consider adding it to my Steam Deck to get through it faster. I’ve already finished 9 games this year, and only a couple more months before the new one begins. Usually I finish 4, or 5 if I’m lucky.

I have a few other pix on Masto.

Of Heaven and Hell

It was another nice summer day that passed through. I woke up and enjoyed a Mediterranean quinoa bowl and picked up Hades for the first time in ages. I installed it onto the Steam Deck today, and as expected it runs to perfection. So far I’ve bit the dust 10 times, petted three headed doggo enough for an achievement, and cleared Tartarus… only to die and begin again once more. 😛

I did get to cycle some of the weapons. Played with the shield, a spear, played with the bow for a bit. For not having touched this one in awhile I think I did ok; I advanced the plot, made myself a bit stronger, enjoyed stabbing things, among other things.

Then later on in the day, when it started to cool I went to Heaven to get some Neon White Achievements and grab as many gifts as I could find. Did really well getting the Ace Medals, someday if I’m brave enough I’ll start going for the Dev Medals. They can only be obtained if you beat a level under a game dev’s completion time. I think I already have one that I got by accident.

Neon White: First Impressions

Neon White is an epic casserole of FPS, RPG, and platforming wrapped in an anime shell. You play a man that died and went to heaven… sort of. You’re a Neon; a soul that should be sent to hell, but heaven is under attack by demons and you have to compete with other Neons in order to secure a spot in heaven for the one ass destined to sit next to Jeebus or whatever.

I’ve only completed the first mission and a couple of side quests, but I’ve been having fun with it. I’ve been going through and replaying each level over and over again in missions to try and get as many gifts and extras as possible. So far my experience has lived up to all the hype I’ve been reading about. It’s Deck Verified too!

A Weekend Of Trying New Games

I cycled through some games today to properly decompress and get my mind off of yet another work week surviving morons, and waiting for late packages in the mail (waiting on gifts to send to people… some of them late, misdelivered and dropped off by residents on other streets, the post office is kind of fucky over here at the moment). I wanted to try some of the freebies I’ve accumulated in my library over the years, and decided to try Lego: Ninjago Movie because, why not? I tried to play it under Linux awhile ago and ran into audio issues, and I figured I’d play it under Windows to get around that issue. The good news is that the audio works! The bad news is that it crashes more than a drunken sailor. I did some reading around, and this game, despite the positive reviews, crashes galore on certain setups, and mine seems to fall into that happy little club. I’m running up to date drivers, it was a clean install of the game, and I even tried running it in both DX9 and DX11 mode. I’m going to see if I can tweak something under Proton, but so far I’m thankful this was a freebie; the amount crashes alone would have made me demand a refund.

Upon returning to the ultimate trudge that is my Steam library I took notice of Neon Boost; a parkour style platformer with an 80’s tron/synthwave aesthetic. You have to get from point A to point B by bouncing, ducking, rocket jumping and running along walls while listening to synthwave during constant movement. There was a LOT of dying. Some instructions are floating in the air, and I had to come around a few times just to figure out what I was supposed to do, or I didn’t climb onto the wall or rocket jump properly from said wall. You can check it out for yourself on Steam, it’s an eternal freebie.

I also gave Lara Croft And The Temple Of Osiris a try again (not a freebie, unfortunately), but the damned game still suffers from amnesia every time you launch the game. At least a free indie came through for me, even if it is a ballbuster.
