Have Some More Science

Got more animation done tonight. It feels like I’m breezing through this fairly quickly. I’m almost done with the rough stage . Once I finish that I can begin on smoothing things out. Probably get around to that sometime next week. I’ve got other plans this weekend that may or may not involve photos of the reality kind.

Go Long!

On Monday I picked out the map, on Tuesday I selected the models, got them posed, and for the last couple of days I’ve been working on animation. Since there won’t be any animation during the main video, I figured I could at least tag something strange onto the end for those who stuck around long enough. I’m hoping to finish this sometime by mid next month.

Portal 2 Project In Progress!

It was a fun trip down memory lane going through this little adventure! I had completely forgotten about the time we did a co-op get together in Portal 2’s single player campaign! I’ve chopped it up right where I want it to be, and I’m probably not going to be adding much to the video in terms of animation. It’s one of those cases where the video footage already tells a good enough story on its own, but that said… I could always tie something on at the end. 😛

With the video editing out of the way I’ll begin building my stage sometime tomorrow. Compared to my last video this project should be a walk in the park.

In Other News: Valve Is Still Awesome

I have to hand it to Valve… 99% of their games are awesome, they have a convenient platform to buy games on, more than one platform. Which is why I think its cool that Valve, to this day updates their older games riiiiight when you think Valve will never touch them again. Yes, TF2 had an update recently… BUT PORTAL 2 HAS VULKAN NOW HOLY SHIT.

You don’t normally see many game companies update their older products (or even make them available outside of Windows), which is why Valve will always be my main squeeze.

Now if they could just properly port SFM to Linux…

I Finished Thinking With Time Machine!

If you haven’t played it yet I highly recommend checking it out! It’s a mod for Portal 2 that you can download directly via Steam. It serves up more Portal related brain teasers with a catch, you have a portable time machine!

Not something you would normally find at a yard sale.

The time machine has three buttons: Start, Stop and Play. You can record yourself standing on or pressing buttons, picking up items to hand to yourself, firing portals or even crouching to help your current self get up walls.

Hello me! Meet the past me!

The mod campaign is pretty short, although there is a workshop with more levels if you feel like punishing your brain into overdrive. I finished it in about three hours playing on and off, and most of that was through trial and error as the puzzles started to become more advanced. It’s definitely worth checking out if you want another portal related adventure… with a twist!

In Which I Became A Sourcerer

It’s been awhile since I tried tackling Thinking With Time Machine, but I was in something to wake my brain up a little. If you’ve never played it’s a Free Portal 2 mod that you can download through Steam, and I recommend it! I mean it is free so… why not? I’ve also been watching my TF2 and L4D1 and L4D2 servers getting traffic. left 4 Dead 2 had a content update recently and that one has been especially busy. I had to run an update on the server yesterday and I couldn’t because people were still connecting on their client.

There was also some Source Filmmaker today. Yesterday I actually rendered something to incorporate into the video, and now I’ve been working on the main scene where we’re all chillaxin’ in our new digs.

This was probably one of the more Source related evenings I’ve had in awhile, not that I’m complaining or anything.

Single Player with a friend?

I talked Yutram into doing some modded Portal 2. We managed to play a little bit of the single player co-op campaign together due to some tweaks I’ve found in my travels. We had a good time, and I got a good bit of footage for a future video. It was a silly/buggy experience, sadly we had to stop after a random disconnect, followed by a constant string of connection failures. I’m not sure what the text in the bottom right corner means, other than it might be some form of debug message.

Fun little experiment nonetheless.

For Science

My Skyrim is showing signs of breaking again, so I decided to give myself a break from Tamriel and head to another realm I haven’t occupied in awhile, the Portal universe. I figured it was time for me to rekindle my love of portals and science.

I managed to progress further in Portal Stories: Mel. The puzzles are really quite different from what I’m used to. But I feel less dumb when I solve them. 😀 For a free mod it has great story writing and acting. If you haven’t checked it out yet, do so! It’s actually pretty fun, and funny!
