Hat’s Off

Played a game of jacks tonight with The Mad Hatter, and won… kinda. Ever since then I’ve been wandering the more hellish parts of Wonderland.

Getting through this area was a bit of a hassle because of the Devils, the slippery slopes and the jump button not working when I wanted it to. This is where Alice will be setting up camp for the time being, ending the evening on a more twisted note. Tomorrow night I’m thinking of playing something just as warped, but probably newer.

Would You Look At The Time

Another evening, another hour of Alice. I just couldn’t keep away. I wanted to fight the Mad Hatter tonight, but only had time to deal with his goons.

Still… I’m a level closer to finishing it, and with the series being dead after Madness Returns I have no problems savoring this one like a fine wine. Time to shelve it for now, and pick a different distraction tomorrow night.

The Nitty Gritty

Today was a productive day for getting some animation done AND progressing through a dark and twisted Wonderland! The Centipede Boss Battle was more annoying than it should have been, the hitbox for defeating him was tinier than Hank Hill’s Urethra.

Stopping in the Red Queen’s Kingdom for the night… just in time for a failed rescue attempt! We’ll see how that unfolds next time I make it in to play. I’ve focused enough on retro for the last few days thanks to Tomb Raider. This week I’m going to be giving some other games attention, and taking a break from animation and video editing. I have plenty of other things to focus on this week. Was thinking of getting started on some spring cleaning after work tomorrow. The dust is at a point where I feel like I need to do something, it’ll make game time a little more rewarding tomorrow night. Not sure if I’ll pick up Toren again, or maybe pick a Metroidvania… decisions, decisions.

Smol = Big Adventures

You know it’s getting serious when I’m looking at mods to make for a better experience! So far I’ve up’d the framerate, installed an HD font pack, and HD texture pack.

I found the recipe to become smol, but it makes the adventure all the bigger. I only wanted to play a little bit tonight, but with the modding and tinkering I ended up getting sucked further into Wonderland than I had originally planned to. I’ll give another lady protagonist some attention tomorrow, though it has been fun going on Alice’s adventures!

Logic and Proportion

Finished animating the intro to a video I’m working on! Celebrated the last bit of the evening by playing some more of American McGee’s Alice. I made it deeper into the Skool and found a recipe for how to become smallville. Also found a croquet mallet along my travels, so far that’s my second favorite weapon next to wield, with the first being the deck of cards.

I’m impressed with what extras they put into this version of the idTech3 engine. Having grown up with Quake III Arena it’s weird seeing characters with facial animation… perhaps John Romero should have ported Daikatana from Quake 2! :v

Last Bit Of Weekend Wonderland

I thought about continuing my journey through Alice: Madness Returns, but ended up deciding to travel even further back in time to play the game that started it all. American McGee’s Alice. I never knew that it ran on idTech 3! The same engine Quake 3 ran on! What they did with it was impressive, for the era it came out in.

Made it to Skool before calling it quits. It feels a little janky to play, but I am getting used to it. I also played a bit of it on my Steam Deck earlier. It does a weird glitch where the game window is larger than the screen, it’s also upside down and backwards. Binding the alt and enter keys to one of the back paddles fixed it though, and it handled controller play quite nicely.

There’s something about the darker setting of Alice in this old engine that makes it even creepier than the sequel, in a good way. It gives it a darker, grittier feel.

The Misadventures Of Lara Croft

Oops…

Apparently in the new Tomb Raider Remastered Trilogy if you leave the butler in the freezer for too long he’ll actually ice over! Also there’s a Photo Mode!

Lara’s Breakdancing Skillz

I’ll have to take a more careful look at my surroundings, just to get any good photo opportunities stored away. Definitely puts a new spin on an old game!

That Mummy Is Sus

Made it out of Qualopec’s Tomb with the first part of the Scion before calling it an evening. I’m thinking tomorrow night I’ll pick some form of Metroidvania to pad out what remains of my evening.

Downtown DOOM

DOOMGuy looking how I feel.

As usual I spend the last bits of the evening playing a lil’ game before calling it a night. It’s one of my favorite escapes after enduring another day of stupidity in the workplace. I took out my frustrations on Demons begging for bullets. I’m about halfway through the Downtown area but decided to call it a night, motion sickness was starting to set in. That bobbing back and forth gets to me after awhile.

I Wonder What They’re Talking About

Took some aggression out in DOOM 2 tonight. I went through some footage earlier and found out that it didn’t record correctly, and I had to delete another few hundred gigs…I feel a little better now that I’ve managed to kill some demons. Stopped on Lvl 10 for tonight, and even got an achievement for finding a BFG! Either way, I think I got enough anger out of my system to go to bed.

Frolicking Around The Cemetery

It’s been a week since I last played with my Steam Deck. I decided to give it a little love tonight by playing a bit of BloodRayne. Defeated the Queen of the Underworld and unlocked Blood Rage Lvl 3. It’s definitely been the right weather to play tonight. Dark, foggy and plenty of wind. The perfect way to end a quiet evening of video sorting. Even deleted a few hundred gigs!
