Serious Sam Classics: Revolution
How a week can fly by
You’ll have to excuse the lack of posts; last week killed me with extreme prejudice with Thursday leaving me want to carve someone’s guts out. Lots of drama, and the holiday hustle and bustle gets harder and harder to keep up with. I have a few late packages that haven’t arrived in the mail, but I did get what I do currently have on hand wrapped up and ready. Other than that I spent the whole weekend staying cozy, there’s something about cold weather and sore muscles that make blankets and controllers more inviting. I played a little bit of the Bioshock Remaster with a tweaked Steam Controller config, and I did pretty well. I’ve been wanting to stream that game, in fact I wanted to stream some Serious Sam Christmas mods the other night, but ran into issues across different Serious Sam versions (3 or 4 different versions that didn’t want to cooperate) and while they worked fine in single player I wanted to play with a friend. We could have played split screen, but I was pissed off enough from not being able to play that we just ended up fucking around on an asteroid for about an hour.
Yutram and I found out that if you die prematurely before a survival round starts your time score will be in the negatives. Other than that we had fun killing aliens in space, a therapeutic ending to what was essentially a stressful week.

Happy Holandaise!
I survived another year of Christmas, gripers and all. I’ve either been working or in bed fiddling with the Steam Controller some more, and thanks to the latest sale it looks like I have more fiddling with it. I woke up tonight to presents in the form of games. So I revenge gifted a bit in return.
Speaking of the Steam Controller I’ve been playing more FPS games with it. I mentioned TF2, but I’ve also been dabbling in the Serious Sam games. It still takes some getting used to but I’ve been doing better than expected, at least when playing the campaigns. Survival mode in Second Encounter has been tough to adapt to, but in BFE and Revolution I get about the same survival time. I actually had to write my own config for Serious Sam Classics: Revolution. It took some time to get the buttons in the right places but I got a good setup for it now, at least for me anyway. I even uploaded the config in case anyone else wanted to take a stab at it.
Another nice feature I found was finding game configs for non-steam games. I run my gog copy of Witcher 3 through Steam, and when I’m in Big Picture if I check community made configs I see a small list of configs. Pretty handy.
The client likes to randomly crash on me when using it for too long, and there’s a bug where certain games will get stuck in an infinite loop when you try to launch them. For me that’s just been Portal 2 though. Other than that everything has been going well. With the weather being extremely cold lately it’s been nice to kick back someplace warm and play anything I want.
Been playing a new old game of the Serious Sam variety.
I’ve recently been playing Serious Sam Classics: Revolution. And I have to say that even though it’s in early access it’s seriously fun. Basically imagine the original First Encounter and Second Encounters merged together, then add extra content and Steam workshop: You have the ultimate classic serious FPS.
Here’s a screenshot of me playing in survival mode.
Yeah, they added survival mode to a not HD version of the game. It’s seriously awesome! I always liked the trippy level designs of the original games and felt it was lacking in the newer versions. I’m not sure if it’s something they took out in the newer games or if it’s just something no one has utilized. But playing that space ball map was fun. It’ll be interesting seeing how this game rolls out when it nears completion. I suggest getting this (and the other Serious Sam games if you’re looking for a “serious” FPS to play).
