An Evening of Two Games

My week of binge playing Shadow Warrior 2 finally reached the end, for the first playthrough anyway! I’ll return someday for NG+, but for now it’s time to start pinging back and forth between other adventures and worlds. I left a review on Steam, and some final screenshots on Mastodon. Overall it was a lot of fun to play!

I spent the rest of the evening outside retro gaming on my Steam Deck, it was a nice summer evening of fresh air and a little Deus Ex. Finally got around to finishing the tutorial to help me dial in the custom controls, and eventually made it to Liberty Island. Going to try and do stealth as much as I can, taking in the scenery… such as it was for its time. I never played it when it first came out though, so… it’s still new to me! ๐Ÿ˜›

More Shadowing of the Warriors

Finished almost all the trials, taking a break from the last one. I also managed to finish one of the Heisenberg side missions – basically had to go make some drugs for a couple of cyborgs. I only played for an hour, but it was one intense hour!

Also moving along on the Skyrim ending! Just started animating some more watermelon magic tonight, and a few different camera angles. I’ll be starting on animating the next bit of dialogue tomorrow. Might also continue my ninja adventures tomorrow, also too!

Beautiful Hellscape

Some purdee screenshots from tonight’s demonic stroll in Shadow Warrior 2! Haven’t played since the beginning of June, so I figured why not pay this beautiful hellscape a little visit before I call it a night? I finished my bounty, and knocked off a couple trials before calling it quits. If you want to see a couple other shots I have them up on Mastodon.

Your (Sometimes) Friendly Photo Ninja

Decided to do something SLIGHTLY more modern tonight… and there was no skimping on alllll the stabbin’! I finished a couple of missions, earned a new weapon and some in game reading material for later. There was also an achievement for helping 100 demons do some acid… damage. Also, since I’m an awesome ninja I also snapped some pics in Photo Mode.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for Photo Mode. ๐Ÿ˜›

Another Day, Another Demon

If only we had some demonic Benny Hill music to accompany this scene

I’m thinking in a couple more play sessions I’ll be able to finally finish the game! My character has been made super powerful thanks to all the bounty missions, side quests, and trials. I even advanced the main plot! It took a slight twist that I wasn’t expecting, one that could only be properly understood if you played the previous game.

That’s enough for now, though. Time to leave this one on a cliff hanger to resume some fucked up story telling. I sifted through some of the Yakuza: Like a Dragon footage and might actually have enough to make a video with it! I’ll figure out more of it tomorrow after some more rain induced sleep.

Just A Humble Bounty Hunter

After a bit of grinding I managed to get through the Bounty Hunting missions, and managed to advance the main plot! Then more bounties showed up, and it’s all a vicious cycle of viciousness. On the bright side, the quests seemed much more diverse in the sense that it didn’t feel entirely like “Go locate A and kill B” kinds of quests. One of the last quests I finished tonight involved collecting demon rods.

It’s not what it sounds like.

Tea Under The Digital Cherry Blossoms

I returned to the world of Shadow Warrior 2 today to grind away at my remaining sidequests, and I STILL have a few more to grind through before continuing the main storyline. Most of the bounties I completed tonight were quite repetitive, but they did make me stronger in the money/skills department. I can’t complain too much, since Skyrim’s bounty hunting in other games usually consists ofย  “find NPC, kill NPC, receive Bacon.” or something along those lines. All in all I did have a good time sipping tea and slaying demons and Yakuza.

Next time I return, there will only be four more bounties for me to collect. Then I can continue with the main plot. I’d like to hopefully finish the game sometime this year, having put it off like so many others.

I’ve Got The Touch

Shameless Cross Promotion

The last couple of days at work have been a bit stressful. I decided to lighten the mood tonight by stabbing a bunch of demons and Yakuza to get my aggression out, and it worked… for the most part. The night began with me chasing a possessed body, locating VHS tapes that the Yakuza stole from a demon, tea for demonic royalty, and chi crystals. All the while locating quite a few new weapons, and even scoring an achievement! What a great way to start the weekend!

It’s a good thing I still need to grind away at this game; I had a look at the reviews for Shadow Warrior 3 on Steam, and compared to Flying Wild Hog’s previous games, it doesn’t seem to be doing all that well. The largest complaint I read was the amount of playtime. It’s only about 4 hours long, 7 if you want to stretch it out. I also noticed that they decided to switch game engines as well, all of their previous games, going all the way back to Hard Reset ran on their in house engine (Flying Wild Hog Engine). This time around they decided to shelve their game engine in place of Unreal Engine 4. This isn’t really a big deal, as Shadow Warrior games aren’t really known for being all that moddable. However, I always liked their engine. Even going back to their oldest FPS Hard Reset still looks amazing, and it’s over a decade old! Both of the Shadow Warrior reboots still look stunning, even at 4K. So why did they switch? I’m starting to see more companies move towards Unreal.

Needless to say it’ll probably be a few sales before I decide to break down and get Shadow Warrior 3. There are plenty of other games that I still need to conquer anyways. ๐Ÿ˜›
