The Elder Troll

According to the instruction manual I can do whatever the fuck I want.

Instead of doing anything halfway productive today (instead of showing up for work… and leaving) I futzed about in Skyrim with console commands. Originally I planned to do an impromptu stream, but dinner ran late and I ended up having fun doing weird things to my Skyrim install! Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures, but I now have some ideas for a future stream. :v: Tomorrow is my Friday, perhaps I’ll indulge a little. :melon:

Cyborg Jedi Skyrim Party

I livestreamed some Skyrim tonight. If you have some time on your hands you can pop over to my Twitch here to watch it, or wait for when I get around to releasing the highlights. I’ve been having fun discovering new mods to further enhance the experience. It also felt really good to stream it all, glad with how it all turned out. Hopefully I can do more soon.

Update

It is also on YouTube:

One is silver and the other’s dead

Life is like a box of melons

I got an extremely small portion of one of my videos done today. I spent a good couple hours on animating one character in one scene that still needs refining. I took a break and played a little Skyrim, one of the many games installed onto one of my new drives. It seems to be performing better, key word being “seems” since I’ve crashed twice, but its been about an hour in between each crash.

Do you get to the red light district often? Oh what am I saying… you never left!

I mainly did the same thing that I did in Fallout 4, wander around from place to place killing a bunch of bandits, and Silver Hands despite not becoming a werewolf.. Given that I have more silver than they do I would think they would hire me and make me their leader… but alas, they made the pitiful mistake of trying to slay me with their tarnished silver weapons. I only fall at the sight of extremely polished cutlery dammit. :zorak:

I am PC, the gaming transformed

Earrings: Because I don’t look ridiculous enough yet.

Deciding to take a break from The Phantom Pain in my butthole (not a Chuck Tingle novel) I wanted to return to a couple other games. I played around a bit with Skyrim, but have been crashing constantly. With a friend’s advice I’ll install and uninstall a couple things in an attempt to solve it. I figured I’d save that for another day and instead went into modding MGR as I have plans to stream/record that at a later date,, after all with the attention I’ve been giving TPP it would make sense to cover MGR and the others.

This asshole was hiding in a cardboard box… trying to steal my thunder.

I haven’t done too much to it yet. I mainly patched the game to run at 1440p and swapped the main model out for the one you see at the game screen as that one has higher res textures. There are some other mods I plan on adding too, like the unarmed mod and a couple others. Unfortunately this game doesn’t have much in the way of mods as compared to The Phantom Pain. If anything I see MGR pour into other games via mods rather than the other way around. It’s not like I go out of the way to find these mods either. They have a habit of finding me instead. :zorak:

Anyways, after tonight’s bit of play I can tell that I need to practice again, the controls feel kinda rusty to me… and I also need to practice with the Steam Controller. Something about making exact slices with the Steam Controller just sounds so… therapeutic.

On another note here is a fun fact: Both The Elder Scrolls and Metal Gear series both have Grey Fox one way or another. :v:

A tale of two platforms

No mods were involved to make Nazeem gay.

I had an unexpected conversation with a co-worker this morning, he had to ask me if I have ever played a game called “Skyrim”. I wouldn’t expect him to know as we belong to two different platform worlds, me on PC and him on Playstation. He originally played the game on PS3, therefore it wouldn’t make sense for him to know that I’ve ever played it.

What my Skyrim character and I have in common: We both exist to amaze and disappoint you, also we have really great hair.

Things got really interesting when I introduced my character to him (via screenshots I have saved on my kindle), and the first thine he says is “Ohhh you play on PC”. Then he wanted to know what level I was, then he told me about how his brother’s level is up in the hundreds. Then out of nowhere he gave me an interesting opinion; the console version is better because it forces you to play the correct way… I thought that was an odd way to word it, especially considering this is a single player game that can be played in any way they choose. I even pointed that out, yet he felt that the PC version gave people an unfair advantage because mods and cheats. What took his brother forever to accomplish could be done on PC in just a few keystrokes according to him after two days play. I mean I tried to imagine this from his perspective, and all I could think of was someone at gun point telling him to mod his game or else. :rick:

YOU WILL INSTALL THE NIGEL THORNBERRY MOD OR DIE TRYING GOD DAMMIT

At the time of writing this I have over 800 hours clocked on Skyrim, and many times I’ve had to start over due to corrupted saves. I remember trying to play it as vanilla as possible when I first started and couldn’t really get hooked into it (damn TF2 and L4D2 kept getting in the way!). Then when listening to two friends of mine go on about it forever (you know who you are) I decided to do a little mod searching before making a fresh character. One thing lead to another and that’s how I ended up with my character, an eternity of dreams and nightmares surrounding it, and more than a few people thinking I put my face in the game for some weird reason. :melon:

Clearly I have the superior game.

To me Skyrim is a personal journey, even without mods there are so many ways to play, to find yourself or a character of your own creation to explore, and modding is just another layer on top of some nice vanilla ice cream. Somehow my lore unfriendly setup couldn’t save me from reading all kinds of books and absorbing knowledge like one of my favorite Daedric princes. Who knew that by becoming a cyborg ninja with dragon wings and a pogo hammer I would get wrapped up in this game for hundreds of hours and multiple lunch breaks? Meanwhile there are people that think mods only cheapen the experience and claim that if you install more than X amount of mods you shouldn’t even play… While I lean towards PC, and probably always will, I’m not going to attack someone for playing the same game on another platform. I know I’m not going to change their mind, and I know they’re going to be happy playing it the way they want to. He can have his dragonborn and I can have mine.

Though for shits and giggles I wonder what would happen if I introduced him to gamerpoop…

Some improvements have been made to the new Skyrim

20161029233327_1

Thanks to some help on the Steam forums and a reddit link I can now play Skyrim Special Edition at 60 fps.

I did it a little differently from what the link provides. I disabled V-Sync but set the target framerate in another program (I used Radeon Crimson). So far the game is performing faaaaar better than when I tried the other day. Now my only gripe is the audio. It’s not as crisp as the original due to the audio compression they decided to use for this PC version as well as XBox One… For some odd reason the PS4 version is as crisp as the original PC release. :S

I think I’ll dink around with it a bit here and there, but I won’t get too invested in until more mods emerge.

Thoughts on the new Skyrim

I got to watch the new Skyrim release, followed by the ultimate trainwreck of posts on the Steam forums regarding all of the bugs. One of many is framerate issues, I happen to be in the camp of people who for some strange reason have a 30FPS cap. I have read that on R9 290’s and 290x’s aren’t being bothered by this. Once again the majority of people who seem to be the least bothered by anything are the NVidia crowd, and even then there have been some exceptions to the rule. Mainly people on the latest series of cards are suffering while people on the previous generations are more likely to run the game decently. And even then I have spotted some people on 970’s who are also experiencing framerate issues.

Apart from my unfortunate FPS cap the game seems to be running fine. I did forget how ugly the vanilla textures are… On top of adding the new lighting and shadows to the game would it have killed them to add 4K textures? I mean don’t get me wrong, I still game at 1080p but… $40 USD for godrays, nicer shadows and 64bit support seems a tad overpriced for anyone buying the game new.

As far as modding goes I need to look more into that. Bethesda seems to really want you to join their website to use mods, although I did notice there is a new version of Nexus Mod Manager out that will support the new Skyrim. Though in all honesty I think I’ll wait for the game to mature a bit before I venture into modding. As it is my older Skyrim keeps a better framerate, plus it has some mods in it that I consider essential… Also my game is far more fabulous.

And no. I’m not comparing modded Skyrim to the new vanilla. I just wish they would have improved the texturing. The Special Edition looks like they took the free enhanced texture DLC from 2011 and called it good.

Late Night Open Thread

For the first day of my vacation I mostly stayed in out of the cold weather playing mostly Hard Reset Redux and Shadow Warrior 2. I guess it was a Flying Wild Hog day. 😛 I did notice with the new patch to SW2 I had to place all of my accumulated skill points. And of course at the end of the night I had to turn to my go to game for absolute relaxation:

The new and improved Skyrim is slated to release in just a few days. I’m thinking I’ll download it, but I won’t invest much time into it until I know most or all of my mods will work in it. Speaking of mods has anyone seen this for the console versions? Mod limits of 1 GB for PS4 and 5 GB for XBone? Of course with the PS4 version the mods are limited to vanilla assets only. Wow, Microsoft actually did something appealing for a change?

Of course on PC we won’t have this problem. After reading the article though I did have to take a look at my Skyrim install, it’s a nice 49 GB in size. The joys of not being held back by a console ecosystem. 😛

Commence the vacationing

It’s official. For the next two weeks I’ll be enjoying some time off, not having to worry about having split days off constantly until I return. Of course I’ve already started it off the right way:

The Ultimate Staring Contest

I’ve also got a couple of large bottles of Merlot for mulling when a cold evening strikes. I’ve also napped to get back on my old vampiric hours. I’ve had to be a morning person to retain my job, but at heart I think I’ll always be a night owl. 😛
