A Series Of Tombs

With the weather being cold today it felt nice sitting indoors, drinking a hot beverage, and playing games to keep warm. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider does a good job of making my fans spin much like the other two games in the trilogy.

I’ve also been wanting to play Tomb Raider 3 again, but every time I try to play it I run into one problem or another. During my last attempt I could only look left to right, and the forward button was the number two for some reason with there being no button to go backwards… and when I try to change the key bindings the game just crashes despite trying out different compatibility modes. For the hell of it I tried to run the game under Linux via Proton and surprisingly had better results (though the cutscenes never play properly). I was even able to run it with the proper widescreen patch at 1440p, making old Lara look less stretched out on the screen. Speaking of old Lara I didn’t know it was possible to mod the original game:

This person has a bunch of other mods on their YouTube channel that replace the regular Lara with other versions of her, as well as some other abominations. Definitely worth a look, I might even have to install some of them for my own personal enjoyment. πŸ˜› Would probably be fun to stream/record too.

The Tomb Raider Remasters are dead before they even started

It seems the RealTech VR, company responsible behind the remastering of the original 3 Tomb Raider games didn’t seek approval of the almighty Squeenix. They have taken down the videos showcasing the remasters, and have issued a statement:

β€œWhile we always welcome passion and excitement for the Tomb Raider franchise, the remasters in question were initiated and advertised without seeking approval. As such, they were never officially sanctioned. Ensuring fans receive high quality gaming experiences is at the heart of our mission as a company, which requires all projects to go through proper channels. We are thrilled about the future of Tomb Raider, and cannot thank fans enough for their continued support and excitement for the brand.”

Meanwhile RealTech VR has issued a statement of their own:

I would have thought they would have been in contact with Square Enix, I’m going to guess they have considering this was going to be based off of ports for their mobile counterparts. I was really looking forward to this, in fact I was talking with a friend tonight about achievements being one of the reasons to play through all of them again, but now all that’s left is disappointment. A shame they can’t release this as a mod or something considering you still need to own the game files in order to take advantage of it…

Open Game Thread

I’ve been relaxing with my game collection. Starting over in Borderlands 2 as a mechromancer (just got to level 11 today!) so that’s been fun. Also played a bit of MvM earlier on my TF2 server and found out that I had some broken plugins. Unfortunately there haven’t been any fixes for them so I’ll have to wait. One gives bots access to all game weapons and the other enables multiple TF2 holidays instead of just having one. So that’s kind of a bum deal…

Oh, and I’ve also started up on Tomb Raider 3. Had a hell of a time trying to get that running in full 1080p. Had to go through an assortment of compatibility modes to get it to work properly… But like all the tomb raiders that I’ve played it’s fun! I only ever played the Playstation demo when I was a kid. Hell I even setup my controller so I could play the old nostalgic way! Even going as far as looking up all the commands to enter into my joypad. I also decided to start up on Metal Gear Solid. Aside from one part of the gunfight with Revolver Ocelot lagging during him having a raging hardon about reloading his revolver it’s been running quite nicely. Even recognizes directinput so that I can run my controller without any issues.

And finally I went to visit MOULa to see how things were going. People are still whining about the vaultwipe that had to be done awhile ago and having to do the ages again. I’ve also been reading the forums about how some have gone as far as to contemplate not playing the game anymore… I even laughed when I saw certain people striving to get low KI numbers because you know, those are still totally relevant after a decade of the games existence amirite? That and some other threads I’ve read have made me glad that I stick with other game forums. Heck, it’s sad that quite a few FPS forums that I frequent are far friendlier than the retirement home that is the Myst Online Uru Live forums.
