To wear or not to wear?

https://twitter.com/daumkeziah/status/988115815068139520

I do find it funny that taking this to a prom is bad, but cosplaying in this stuff is totally ok. As someone who collects a bunch of things relating to the orient and enjoys wearing other worldly clothes I took an interest in this article about this girls prom dress.

Like many other teenagers preparing for prom, Utah senior Keziah Daum wanted to find a dress that would stand out, “something that would be more unique and bold and had some sort of meaning to it,” she said in an interview with The Washington Post.

I always find it rather amusing how people can get bent out of shape over articles of clothing. I collect Kimonos (and even bought one recently), Cheongsam’s, Hanfu’s, etc. To me if you’re not supposed to wear a particular garment due to your heritage then why are these items being sold worldwide? You never really hear about people complaining about the origins of the T Shirt, and how people around the world wear them. They originally started as undergarments and eventually evolved to a point of everyday wear. We should learn and embrace other cultures and what they bring us… like good food. 😛

I would hate to be this family right now

facepalm

A 13 year-old girl from Monroe County, Mississippi has been shot in the head by her 9 year-old brother during an argument over an unspecified video game controller.

The Associated Press reports that the incident took place on Saturday, when the girl “wouldn’t give up the video game controller when her brother wanted it.”

That kid is going to have to spend the rest of his life knowing what he did, and his parents share the same guilt moreso for easy access to the fucking thing. Meanwhile, if you read the thread you’ll see people who are triggered over seeing a PS4 controller at a start of the article, because clearly choosing what controller to display is far more important than the story itself. The sad part about all of this is people taking this story and spinning it to blame games for causing violence, not the easy access to guns… But hey, on the bright side children are more replaceable than the weapons themselves.

We are really fucked up as a country. :zorak:

Are save slots a lucrative business?

I’ll admit, like I said the other night I didn’t get to experience much of Metal Gear Survive, though I did like it enough to consider buying it down the road perhaps during a sale… Mainly because of my scheduling preventing me from properly enjoying multiplayer matches and the microtransactions. Well, Konami has found another thing to charge people for, and it isn’t even a lootcrate? Want an extra save slot? It’ll cost ya.

Oh, Konami. We already knew that Metal Gear Survive would include microtransactions, but folks who picked up a copy the game yesterday have discovered Konami has come up with a creative new way to nickel-and-dime their customers. It seems Metal Gear Survive only comes with a single free save slot – if you want a second one you’ll have to pony up a significant chunk of extra cash.

I’ll probably buy it still in the future should the price be right and the planets align so that I can enjoy multiplayer sessions more often again, perhaps around that time the full game will come in its own pack… Kinda like a full game. Besides, I still have a large collection of games to finish, with no microtransactions. :v:

On that note I have a hypothetical question: If I were to stream a particular Metal Gear game, what one would be the most interesting to start with and why? At this point I have access to all the games.

I’m baaaaack.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been down for awhile with only my own stupidity to blame. I won’t go into full detail, but the summary was basically me wanting to switch some of my sites over to https, and while doing so moving my blog from one subdomain to the other. Somewhere along the line I accidentally deleted my website. Fortunately I backed up most of my website, like the entire folder and an XML file containing all of my posts, tags, categories etc. But something must have gone wrong during the xml backup, as when I tried to import everything it would stop at February of last year, so in other words my blog hated 2017 almost as much as I did. Probably saw my last post about that one deportation story and just died on the spot thinking of anything going beyond that point.

So if things seem out of place that’s why. I’m still piecing things back together, need to redo my emoticons and other stuff, but the blog is now back at a point I can share it publicly. Oh yeah, and welcome to the new URL.

By the way, I’m aware that the Steam widget on the left isn’t displaying pictures. This is because I’ve switched the site from http to https, and anything linking non secured images (such as that Steam Widget) are affected by this. I’m leaving it for now, but if I can’t find a solution in the code I’ll have to retire it.

GameStop needs to stop this

I’m glad I don’t work at a gamestop… This new policy they’re enforcing is total bullshit that makes both the customer and employee suffer greatly.

The program, called “Circle of Life,” gives each GameStop store different percentage quotas for 1) pre-orders; 2) reward card subscriptions; 3) used game sales; and 4) game trade-ins. Each of these quotas is based on the store’s total transactions. Pre-orders and reward cards subscriptions are based on the number of transactions, while used game sales and trade-ins are based on the total dollar value of transactions. If a store’s quota for used game sales is 30%, and the store sells $1,000 worth of merchandise, GameStop expects at least $300 of that merchandise to be pre-owned.

I could see this Circle of Life thing being about as effective as the red ring of death if they decide to keep this policy.

The more new games an employee sells, the more used games they’ll have to sell to make up for it. In other words, according to salespeople speaking to Kotaku and elsewhere on the internet, GameStop is incentivizing employees to stop people from buying new games and hardware. GameStop staff say the company has threatened to fire people who don’t hit these quotas, which is leading to all sorts of scuzzy tactics.

If a customer wants a new console, or a new game, and an employee gives them what they want, they either have to make up for it by selling a certain percentage of used game wares, or be terminated. Or the employee has to lie to the customer to keep their job, forcing the customer to shop elsewhere. Which in this day and age with the internet isn’t very hard, is it? This will lead to pissed off customers and a high turnover rate for employees. I’m sure the gamestop execs aren’t too happy about the news circulating teh interwebz right now.

I feel sorry for anyone who works there, reading the comments to the article are quite illuminating.

Having worked at Gamestop for a short time, I am in no way surprised by any of this. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll never shop there again.

Worked for Gamestop for 3 years as a store manager. I was fired for paying my employees out of pocket to help me out off the clock because corporate pulled all my hours during Christmas time so I was soloing a fucking store by myself. I doubt none of this.

As one of the unfortunate Gamestop employess, my first reaction is ‘love my job, hate the company. Been working for the company since 2005 and the circle of life is the biggest crock of shit ive ever dealt with. My district Manager, sorry Leader (were not supposed to use the words Manager or customer any more) has directly told me to lie to customers about stock in the past. I would like to say more but this is already enough to get me fired.

Who’s That Pokemoron?!: Walking into rush hour traffic edition

Predictable. I knew after writing that Pokemon post yesterday that another stupid thing involving Pokemon Go would take place.

Autumn’s mother, Tracy Nolan, said the accident happened when her daughter had just finished playing the game and was attempting to cross the street.

Poor young Pokezombie. Of course the mother is blaming this on the game and not on lack of surroundings.

“Parents, don’t let your kids play this game because you don’t want to go through what I went through last night. I really thought I was losing my daughter,” Nolan said.

Or better yet, if your child or teen can’t keep their nose out of a phone long enough to see they’re about to walk into rush hour traffic let alone some other hazard, you should probably keep the damn phone away from them. While we’re at it how about we have a mandatory test that proves if someone is smart enough for a smartphone. 😛

Can’t wear a headscarf to work? Cosplay instead!

I’ve had some minor disputes with our own work attire (which has gotten a lot better these days) but this just takes the cake:

Yahoo reports that Rivas’ employer told her that “wearing her hair in a ponytail or donning a head scarf was unprofessional” (pictured, top), despite the unnamed company’s dress code simply stating that employee’s clothing needed to be “clean and pressed”.

When Rivas filed a harassment complaint over this, the boss responded by detailing the dress code to include the banning of “straps, hats, sandals, cleavage, back out, lace, and even “cultural head wraps”.

Cultural Headwraps? Oh the horror! Either way after she reported her boss to the EEOC she decided to use cosplay, it’s super effective!

I have to give her props, in her position I’d probably do the same thing.

Pokemon Go and the Pokemorons of the apocalypse

The whole Pokemon Go thing has been quite fascinating to observe even if you’re not actively playing it. People have been wandering around all over the world looking for these digital creatures and in multiple circumstances getting into trouble, sometimes through their own ignorance or by some asshole wanting to cause discord. Like this one guy who got swatted during a twitch stream in the middle of a park. It isn’t in the following video but he does go on to talk about it not long after the swatting.

Then of course in fine murican tradition you have crimes being committed:

They approached a group of six people playing the game, threatened them at gunpoint and “demanded their possessions”. One of the Pokémon Go players, however, had a concealed weapons permit, pulled out his gun and a shootout ensued.

Both the adult suspect (back) and one of the Pokémon Go players (stomach) were shot in the exchange, with both being hospitalised. Both injuries are described as being “non-life threatening”.

But I think the funniest (saddest) one I’ve read so far is the warning in Bosnia:

An agency in Bosnia is pleading with Pokemon Go players to be more aware of their environment while hunting for virtual creatures, because distracted users have been unknowingly wandering into landmine-rich areas.

There’s more and more and more stories about this type of stuff throughout the world. Definitely provides interesting reading material in a sense. I’m not anti Pokemon Go, though I’ll never play it. I just find all these side effects to be rather intriguing. Human beings will go to great lengths to perform acts of stupidity on themselves or one another.

Today’s moron brought to you by Texas Roadhouse

I’m not sure what it is about people who think they can say whatever the hell they want and not be held accountable for what foul words that were typed from their keyboards… Like, what compelled this person to post so openly something that anyone with half a brain would take to their manager?

Take, for example, the tale of a now-former waitress at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Colorado. Earlier this month, she vented through her since-shuttered Twitter account that “If we had a real life purge I would kill as many Mexicans as I could in one night,” followed by a hashtag expressing her apparent anger over tips.

Followed by:

For her part, the fired server has attempted to express her regret, via a statement posted on Facebook:

“I wrote hurtful, inconsiderate, insensitive and careless words and I understand the amount of people I have offended by that,” she explains. “There are no excuses for what I have done. I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, apologize to everyone for my momentary lack of judgment. I want you all to know that I do not actually feel this way.”

Or to read between the lines:

“I wrote hurtful, inconsiderate, insensitive and careless words that I thought I would get away with if it weren’t for you meddling twitter followers, and I understand the amount of people I have offended by that,” “There are no excuses for what I have done. I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, apologize to everyone for my momentary lack of judgment for not anonymously posting on 4chan. I want you all to know that I do not actually feel this way. I’m just saying this so I won’t end up a homeless racist bag of salted dicks.

I really don’t get the whole rise in this sort of behavior. I see kids talking like this, then I see adults like her and it confirms to me that people never truly grow up mentally. It all comes down to maturity or lack thereof.

Edit: I found another stupid ass story involving people using those special carts at Wal-Mart, thought I’d give it a dishonorable mention rather than make another thread about stupid for such a short subject:

• Sept. 2014: The Michigan shoplifter who managed to get a full two miles away from the store before being caught. Her explanation for taking the scooter? She “didn’t feel like walking.”

• Aug. 2014: The New Mexico man who was sent back to prison after driving a stolen Walmart scooter to his meeting with his probation officer.

• July 2012: The Louisiana man charged with a DUI for driving a Walmart scooter down a public street with a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit. Oh yeah, he was also towing a friend seated in a wheelchair.

• Sept. 2011: The woman in upstate New York who “borrowed” a Walmart scooter for her personal use… for 11 days.
