This is now a food blog apparently

I opted to leave out the pita shell and make a salad instead for my after work lunch, turned out quite nice. I made a spicy Thai tuna salad mixture with some fish sauce, lemon and lime juice, cilantro, shallot, ginger, serrano pepper, honey roasted peanuts and some curry paste. I layered some sushi rice above some salad greens and spooned the tuna mix on top to make something like a Thai tuna sushi, but with tomato and cucumber. The nice thing about this mixture is that you can serve it in a multitude of ways/ It makes a good tuna melt, crisp sandwich or wrap… and as mentioned in the previous post pita bread. :v I also bought some pralines for snacking, they are a new addiction I’m trying not to let happen too often.

I rendered some SFM stuff earlier, still have a bit more to go. Sometimes I have to split up one file into two due to a particular bug. For some reason every once in awhile when I try to keyframe something the program will be stuck on a different scene entirely. I had to render up to a point that I hadn’t animated yet, split it off at that point and did an export. I remember this happening under Windows too awhile back, it seems to occur randomly.

Food Balance

I dug out my old bento box and decided to put a chirashi sushi kit together for tomorrow. It’s in my lunch box along with some miso soup, soy sauce and some satsumas. I enjoyed my yogurt cup this morning, it satisfied. I’ll have to start coming up with other ideas for yogurt cups… I already have a few of the tropical variety I want to try. I’m contemplating either a tuna curry for after work, or a Thai Tuna Salad in some pita bread shell.

I don’t have much else to share. I worked a tiny bit more on the next video, it wasn’t much but I think I might have more time tomorrow.

More foodage and games

As planned I made a good hearty breakfast of oven fried Potatoes O’Overlord (Basically Potatoes O’Brien with some of my own spices) and some scrambled eggs and prosciutto with some tomatoes, onions and shrooms. I topped it off with a homemade white sauce, served some sourdough English muffins on the side and it was breakfast… and dinner later on. I did make a sweet and sour chicken stir fry earlier, but my stomach is feeling a little on the egg and potato side of things this eve.

I purchase a few portable yogurt parfait cups from work a couple weeks ago, and finally put together enough ingredients to create one. This is Greek strawberry and honey yogurt layered with homemade plum and nectarine sauce and some roasted mixed nuts ground with a mortar and pestle. I decided to spoil myself a little bit with some white chocolate morsels on the top of the parfait. Plus there is a little satsuma mandarin in the little dome for a juicy snack. If my stomach is up for it I’ll probably eat the leftover curry for lunch when I get home tomorrow. That was really good, but this morning it kinda killed my stomach. Fortunately I had my special candy to calm my stomach.

Played some ol Quake 3 with Yutram earlier on a whim. I even took the time to install the HD packs and did a few cfg tweaks for my own liking. We have a nice selection of custom maps that I forgot about, it was fun to play them again. Still feels more fun to play than Quake Champions, maybe it’s the old charm, maybe it’s the ability to mod it how I please… I don’t know.

One of the things I’ll have to test next time we play: Increasing the amount of frags. We seem to go through the maps too quickly, and upping the bot strength… currently they’re set to Hurt Me Plenty, but I seem to be mowing through them like a nicely sharpened blade through a watermelon. Refine things a few more and I might actually stream this at some point. Might be cool to show off some old and new mods. You can tell a games worth by how much people play it,and also by how many mods are made for it. To this day people still mod the old Doom and Quake games, and that’s something cool to see with a 20 year old game.

In Today’s Episode Of Breakfast: Bacon Will Be Played By Smoked Salmon

Eating like an Overlord

For the first time I finally made a tamago I could be proud of. I made a chirashi sushi bowl with sushi rice, cucumber, smoked salmon and a tamago omelette made in an authentic tamago pan to get the dimensions just right. I also had some pickled ginger that I haven’t torn into yet, and finally got to break it in. Then there is also a garden salad with sesame dressing, and some greek strawberry honey yogurt with mandarin oranges. For me in the morning this is quite a feast, but felt really good for most of the day.

Spicy

Then later on in the day I took the leftover tofu from yesterday, as well as the leftover scallions, sliced a bell pepper and made a noodle curry. It was really spicy, but not too sweet. I also had a nice green chai a bit ago, something sweet sounded nice after browsing Amazon for teas. My flowering teapot is already giving up the ghost after only being unboxed for a few months… so I purchased a more durable one with a better handle. While I was there I also decided to purchase a few teas. There aren’t any good blueberry teas locally, and I also wanted to see if I could hunt down a maple syrup tea, and Holy Twatwaffles Batman! I found a really good candidate. That just sounded too good to pass up, and it’s a Pu Erh! Those are great to have in the morning for a high energy tea. I also found the flavors Caramel Nougat and Apricot Amaretto to be quite intriguing… then of course there’s the original tea that I thought of. I haven’t tried this one before, but it sounded like a good blend to try.

I have a short day of work tomorrow; I’m thinking when I get home of making a scramble of eggs with some tomatoes and mushrooms… maybe some homemade Potatoes O’Overlord with a cream sauce… something hearty. Then perhaps a nap and some SFM work, did nothing but cook and play games today. Do something hearty and somewhat serious tomorrow.

Miso Soup And a Hidden Valley

Been awhile since I’ve made a good miso bowl, figured this morning I’d do a different kind of breakfast. It might seem weird to have miso soup for breakfast, but from what I’ve read it can be an accompaniment to breakfast. I added some shiitake mushrooms to mine and it had a nice robust flavor. I also made fixin’s for chirashi sushi (scattered in a bowl instead of pressed). Maybe I’ll use the leftover miso soup along side it at breakfast tomorrow with a tamago.

For my weekend game I decided to play Valley and a little bit of Quantum Break. I was more interested in Valley today, despite it giving me motion sickness a few times… fortunately puffing the vape pen seemed to help calm my stomach. I think I’m nearing the end of the game, but I’ve been taking my time exploring any area I could find. It’s a big place with many places to go and the more you run around the more upgrades you can find for your robo suit (or as it’s called in game a L.E.A.F Suit). It grants you the ability to give and take life to sustain your suit, and most of the life around you is vegetation.

There are also these weird spirits with horns and weird masks… I think you can consume them into your suit but I haven’t tested that theory. There are plenty of blue orbs around to sustain my suit, so I haven’t really felt the need to take life from anything. I think I’m almost to the end mainly because I’ve gotten like, 13 achievements on the game today. I wanted to play something relaxing today, and it seemed to fit the bill with keeping me thoroughly entertained. Plus it’s quite different from other games in general. I love running around (especially when on rails, you generate a nice bit of electricity for a super run), double jumping in the air, grappling from place to place when applicable, and my most recent suit upgrade lets me walk on magnetic surfaces!

Something tells me that I’ll be giving this game a thumbs up when I finally finish it.

Food and Adventures

I haven’t felt too well these last few days, and on top of that my schedule has been keeping me jumping. Yesterday I chilled with Yutram in the Gmod Cinema after work, and got motion sick afterwards for some reason… that resulted in an accidental 12 hour nap. I felt better though. Well enough to make breakfast:

I made an egg and bacon muffin with some colby pepperjack. It was a nice small and quick breakfast item to get the day rolling. I baked some cran-apple muffins:

I bought some apples for dirt cheap, and figured muffins sounded like a nice thing to both keep the house warm and make things smell good. Plus I prefer making my own munchies anyway.

He’s Been Shrek’t

Got a little further in Sekiro. Defeated Lady Butterfly, made a bracelet out of the anal beads of my enemies, killed Shrek, killed almost anyone I crossed paths with and had a big white snake show up in my face.

At this point I decided yeah… I’m doing pretty well. I looked into mods for a couple other games, and I found some additional fun ones for MGSV and the Dark Souls games. Those will have to wait for another time. For now I’ll try not to have nightmares about White Mamba… the Siberian ass slugs are enough of a problem.

The Breakfast Of This Champion

I’ve been working mornings for a good number of years now, but I still don’t consider myself a morning person. I can just barely do fine waking up at 3am everyday, but god forbid if I wake up two hours later… for some reason on work days my stomach isn’t a morning person either. For years I’ve pretty much abandoned not bringing anything to work to eat and just lived off of one yogurt  for the morning, and every once in awhile for the whole day…. or a salad, or anything I can keep down. I’ve also been doing meal bars and diet shakes for when I’m not hungry but know that I should probably eat something. That changed today:

Over the weekend I made a nice pile of three pepper scrambled eggs with bacon and some feta cheese sprinkled on top… don’t judge me. Then for my work week I’ve decided to wrap them in tortillas for a more portable breakfast lunch. I also had some watermelon and salad with me for small nibbles. I’ll probably bring one or two to work again tomorrow, they were really good. Much cheaper than the diet bars too. :v:

I’m coming up with other ideas too for a good breakfast to have at work. I’ve been contemplating some Miso Soup and a Japanese Tamago with some rice on the side. Maybe even breakfast muffins. I was looking through some recipes for matcha nut muffins and a few others.

Tea Talk: A potential allergy problem

It isn’t a big secret that I’m a large tea drinker, a drinker of all kinds of tea from black, green, herbals, yerba and anything else I can get my hands on to try. One of my favorite things to drink once in awhile is Flowering tea, which is literally just that.

I’ve been drinking it for years, not everyday but it makes for a nice every once in awhile treat. Watching the flower bloom from within the hot boiling water, and even being able to brew it an extra few times before discarding it completely. Flowering teas are impossible to over-steep too, you can keep adding hot water to it as the pot gets low.

But lately I’ve been suspecting one of my teas might not be as good for me as I thought. I sat down to some of Pinky Up’s flowering Apple Cinnamon tea, and for awhile have been wondering if this has been burning my throat or not. Usually when this occurs I’ve been suffering from hay fever or something else, which makes it easy to potentially mask other things that might cause similar effects. Last week I started with a perfectly fine throat, and within about half an hour I started to hurt. I’m wondering what would be causing this though? I know they use some artificial flavorings for their flowering teas, perhaps that might be a problem? One time I drank their Honey Dew melon one and while it tasted real good, it did cause me to throw up. I’ll have to test their other flowering teas that I’ve got in my collection, but if I get the same results I’ll probably have to pitch the ones I can confirm burn my throat… which sucks because they all are taste so good.

I can at least say their loose leaf variants are not only good but don’t burn my throat… then again those all seem to have natural ingredients for the most part. But their Flowering Tea, or at least a couple flavors of it seems to leave me feeling scorched and raspy afterwards.

Another way to breakfast

I was reading one of my cookbooks the other day, coming up with some ideas… and I found a neat breakfast type dish called Eggs Hussarde. I didn’t have all the ingredients needed to make it, but still wanted to have something of a similar vain. It did serve to inspire me to make this though:

I bought some sourdough English muffins and some back bacon (or Canadian bacon as we call it in the states). There was also a bunch of tomatoes that were heavily discounted, so I bought them all up and made them into a balsamic tomato sauce, and instead of Hollandaise I made a white sauce with Parmesan and Marsala. I lightly seared the bacon on both sides  in a pan and made the poached eggs using a microwave. It’s really good, but also really rich in flavor. I don’t think this is something that I would make every weekend, but as a treat every so often to take a break from the traditional weekend omelette I seem to do every so often.

Now, I wonder what I’ll call this dish. Eggs Tomala? Eggs ala Overlord?

Some Italian Comfort Food

I did a good job of staying glomped to one of my Italian cookbooks. I made a couple of salads, one is a tomato mozzarella salad with balsamic vinegar and fresh basil, the other is a salad with greens, oranges (I chose mandarins, they’re my favorite orange of choice due to their distinct flavor), black olives and added some bleu cheese with a orange raspberry vinaigrette of my own creation. The noodles are in an Alfredo sauce with smoked Italian ham, peppers and onions with some pesto mixed into the cream sauce…. and corn. I think the only recipe I didn’t stray too far from was the tomato mozzarella salad. The other two were modifications of a couple recipes to suit my leftovers. I also experimented with a new omelet recipe today! Unfortunately the omelet didn’t last long enough to take pictures. But I cut up a hatch chile and some onion and sauteed them with some Italian ham and olive oil, then folded them inside the omelet with some melty bleu cheese and it was great!

I think we’ll have plenty of leftovers over the next couple of days. :rick:
