I could have gone into a bit deeper detail on this post.

First of all, I have no idea why she is attacking an entire group of people. This is very random and I don’t even think I want to know the full details because somehow I’ll probably be blamed for whatever it is. Second of all I hardly even know Hitana to even be sure what this is about. Unless this is somehow related to someone from our group giving advice about seeing a doctor or something… Ugh even trying to figure this out is tying my head in knots.

I’d like to know how Slackers would even think Hitana has a problem. So far the only thing about Hitana that comes up there is the thread in the steam room about her latest post. Seems rather simpleminded to go about blaming a group based on what other people tell you.

My insurance sends out emails from time to time providing health advice, and the one I got today made me roll my eyes. Today’s email was called “Put down the pastrami.” Let me offer you part of the email I received.

Most store-bought processed meats are made with sodium nitrate or nitrite to prevent spoilage. These preservatives, in large quantities, have been shown to increase the risk of certain cancers. Need another reason to find healthier options? Many of these meats also have high saturated fat levels and can put the bulge into your waistline.

You mean all those bacon wrapped hot dogs smothered in Carmel sauce I’ve been eating AREN’T helping me lose weight? God damn it. Why didn’t they email me sooner?

Don’t fret – you don’t have to give up pepperoni pizza and hot dogs altogether. But moderation is key.

Be mindful of what you’re putting in your mouth. If processed meats comprise a large part of your daily meals, make an effort to substitute with natural foods such as fresh chicken, beans, and low-fat dairy. Because if you get a heart attack we probably won’t cover it.

The part in bold was a fix of mine… I like to help read between the lines whenever I can.

If I want health advice I’ll go listen to a nutrition specialist. Not some fucking insurance company that hardly covers any medical and profits off of sick people who can hardly afford it.

If your eyes work then fucking use them.

So today I had 2 annoying customers. One was a lady that not only blocked my pathway to putting eggs on the shelf, but had to ask me why I was just standing around. I’ll give you a hint, it had to do with her fat ass not moving anywhere.

Second customer was this guy who looks like he’s in my age group, him and a friend of his (who looked stoned out of his mind) couldn’t understand our egg price wall (it lists what eggs we sell and what price they are), it’ll say things like “18 count” “JUMBO” “5 dozen” etc. I had no idea what point he was trying to make. But after about 3 minutes wasted on this dumbass I finally understood. He thought 18 packs came in ANY kind of egg. So he said “well say for example I want an 18 pack of jumbos. How would the fuck would I know which ones those were?” So I pointed to the eggs we DID have on the shelf, one being a 12 pack of jumbos and the other being an 18 pack of LARGE eggs. You can tell by READING THE FUCKING PACKAGING!!! There goes 3 minutes of my life that I’ll never get back…

The other day a creative x-fi notebook smartcard arrived in the mail, which I purchased so I could have Creative features on my laptop since my Audigy2ZS PCMCIA slot doesn’t fit in the smartcard slot. The adapters were going for pretty close to the same price that I nabbed the x-fi, so I figured it would only make sense to upgrade.

My onboard sound can only switch between microphone or no mic and all other sounds when recording. And since I like to do machinima projects every now and again I figured this new card would do the job… However I was wrong. What u hear and the microphone only work separately. Which pisses me off because I’ve seen the x-fi in action and figured it wouldn’t be much different. I would have been better off getting the PCMCIA card adapter as my Audigy2ZS could kick it’s ass without question. Although I did find a solution. A USB headset… A fucking cheap USB headset. Why the hell is THAT able to do the job for me but a god damn x-fi can’t?

I’m just glad I didn’t pay top dollar for it. Even on ebay right now if you buy one brand new it’s $99. I got mine over half of that as a refurbished model. I’d really be kicking myself if I got one brand new.

It’s still a nice card so don’t get me wrong since it does have 3D positional audio built in. But the stripped down features? Piss poor.

The discussion on the role of Cyan should prove one thing to you. It takes a while for dead ideologies to die. There will still be the hardcore supporters who will fight you. As the ideology dies, the views become more extreme and more fundamentalist. The tactics turn to bullying.
Cyan’s role in Uru has diminished and will keep diminishing and Cyan will be better off as a result for the reasons I’ve outlined before (it will free up resources). I have seen no coherent reason  why the community in general could not acquire an individual responsibility to decide their experience in an Age. Particularly since the fan Ages might be separate (and thus distinguishable) from Cyan’s Ages.
And yet, I was regaled in warning after warning of how Uru isn’t Uru without the strictly-cohesive canon (which it has never had). The level of delusion is what is truly frightening. Canon is GOD was a phrase actually used. Completely ignorant of the fact that Uru has spent the majority of its public life without canon (as Until Uru). The Liaisons didn’t cause a backlash when all of them quit in disgust and the event drove several away from Uru. There was a sense of absurdity in the statement that “Uru isn’t Uru” without canon. It was the same sense I got when a team-mate of mine claimed we weren’t making an Age for Uru, we were making a “game.” The correct continuation of both those thoughts is “to me.“
Uru means different things to different people. End of story. The more diverse number of reasons we can bring people into Uru for, the more successful it will be. None of the preferences the community has are exclusive. A poorly-textured Age doesn’t ruin all Ages for me. As such, a poorly-written backstory for one Age doesn’t kill all Ages for me. If you don’t like an Age, don’t come back to it or discover something about it you like. That is the mantra repeated over and over. It is a flawed mantra (as it can be applied to any number of atrocities in human history) but it is perfectly acceptable here in this lesser of concerns.
So how do we beat the bullies? There was a term used back in 2007, “concern troll.” It was (in some cases fairly) attributed to posters who registered just to fake concern and cry crocodile tears for Uru’s hopes of survival because Uru was missing this or that. The new breed of concern troll is the one who wrings their hands at how Cyan isn’t involved, how we’re so ungrateful, etc.
The easy answer, the stupid answer, is “ignore them.” But the problem is deeper than that and can’t be addressed by nazi-esque purging (is it Godwin’s Law if I invoke the Nazis on the side I agree with?). The deeper problem is that Uru abounds in diversity but lacks in understanding. This is why the way to beat the bullies is to let them build their own area and have it compete with others. It is not to set up their ideas as the “official” shard while everyone else is relegated to “fan fiction” status. That sets people on a pedestal that leads to anger and resentment.
Uru can be more successful now than before, but we need real rational ideas not antiques that ignore the new reality.

No, this is not a new kind of concern troll. They’ve been around the community for a long time. Only since Open Source has been declared have they decided to scream at the top of their lungs, as though they’re a small child that throws a fit when they don’t get the toy they want.

Some of these people want to control what ages we can and cannot see. I’m not sure if this is because they don’t want their (and by extension every persons) world to be tarnished with an age they themselves deem impure or whatever else. In reality (which I understand by now some of these people are in the cavern to escape that place) these bullies have no control. They can’t control who makes what or who downloads and explores which age. And I’m sure with some of these people it irks and eats away at them.

Choosing which ages can and can’t be used… If these idiots had their way they’d probably choose which people could and couldn’t be allowed into Uru.

So I was reading Alah’s blog (Praise Alah) today, sorry that’s a lie. So my hired assistant read me his blog entry today regarding torture from the United States. I managed to catch this part:

Since this is “I am Uru and so can you” I’ll get right to the point. I agree with Alah that torture is a horrid thing. Which is why I wish Myst/Uru community mindfucking would be outlawed. We lose many Myst/Uru fans each day due to their asshat tactics and if we want to survive as a community, we need to step up and torture those who torture individuals with their asshattary. It’s wrong, subhuman, and it needs to stop.

I heard a question so dumb, that I swear my poor brain was asking for oxygen.

A customer came up to me asking where we keep the carts. And I told them we keep them at both entrances (which some people are too stupid to notice most of the time). Then she had to ask me where the entrances were. And then in my head, I heard screeching.

Then at that point my brain went, we are inside the store… You enter the store, through an ENTRANCE!!!! We were even close enough to one of the entrances. “See those windows?” “Yes…” “Go that way…”

That’s almost as bad as “IF it weren’t for my horse I wouldn’t have spent that year in college”.

Too bad I like getting paid, or it would have been fun to run her around the entire building…

God, after thinking about that I need to read. My brain is starving.
