Went to plug in the new server tonight and found out that the power supply is dead. The fans are waaayyy off balance and the LED on the unit flashes green. Sadly it’s not in a good enough condition to post. I’ll have to buy a replacement. Which is fine because I was going to get a second one anyway.

It would fog up yesterday (and today). That’s ok, I recorded another potential review.
The new server arrived from UPS oops today in a box with rounded corners. The good news is that the damage on the server itself is only cosmetic. If it functions properly then that’s all that matters.
YCDTOXB: L4D2 Server Update
I was feeling creative enough today to make this:
New server on the way!
Ok, I know I said I was going to wait on purchasing a server… But one guy relisted his after it didn’t go through the first time. For $98 I’m not going to sit around. What doesn’t come with it I can just take out of my other one.
Here’s hoping this cheap upgrade solves the problem.
And then there were 4
Found another person having the same problem with ./srcds_run: line 357: 12548 Illegal instruction. Another system running Xeons… Not sure what kind they are yet but if they’re SSE2 and below I think it’s safe to say Valve has stopped supporting those processors.
Update
Looks like 5 total. Get over to this thread if you are having the same issues!

Got off on time today. Came home and made myself a nice mozzarella and basil quesadilla with all the fixin’s. Still no word on the srcds error… I’ll give it a day, then I’ll look into buying a new server.
Evening Open Thread
We will be sticking with Fedora 15. We found a desktop setup that works for us. Fucking stupid that the default ones are all 3D based…
Regarding the forums, Papa Smurf is still plugging away at PHP. It turns out it was trying to talk to a non existing file path…
Anyway, bedtime for bonzo. Will be on tomorrow afternoon.
Update
Forum is back up. Now leave me alone.
I’m not the only one.
Another thread over at steam was posted today regarding the same ./srcds_run: line 357 error:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=24276664&posted=1#post24276664
Upon comparison, the information displayed there makes it look as though that SSE2 has been dropped so far. I urge anyone having this issue to go over to the steam forums and post about it with what hardware you’re running. The more people post the better chance Valve will fix it.
I’ve been pondering.
Papa Smurf and I have come to the conclusion that Fedora 15 sucks major bollox. So the forum will be down for awhile longer until we go back to Fedora 14 and reinstall the proper packages so that the forum will actually function.
Meanwhile regarding the srcds error for L4D2, I’ve asked around and haven’t gotten any help or suggestions (other than from a friend on steam). But it didn’t really help my case unfortunately. I hate doing this but it looks like I may have to upgrade to a newer server. I already have one in mind, hopefully moving to one that supports SSE3 instruction sets would fix the problem. I still don’t want to do this though because as it is the server is more than capable (in fact I’d go as far to say that it’s overkill). It’s an HP Rackmount server. Seems ridiculous to stop supporting it. It’s also ridiculous that there aren’t more people who are in the same boat as me.

How can this not be supported?
As an aside and a brighter note, PS and I sat down for a L4D1 match tonight. There will be a review in the future. I also have a L4D2 one planned. But I won’t go about saying how either of these reviews will be planned.
Fuck…
Even after updating to Fedora 15 I STILL get the same fucking error when trying to launch L4D2.
Server will auto-restart if there is a crash.
./srcds_run: line 357: 2375 Illegal instruction (core dumped) $HL_CMD
Add “-debug” to the ./srcds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help with solving this problem

Research of this error pointed me to this older steam thread:

If they dropped support for my server I’m gonna fucking rage.
