Yesterday I advanced in Kena: Bridge of Spirits. I haven’t touched the game since last March, but ended up gaining a few achievements, found a few more Rots and hats, and made the story along to a boss battle against the most irritating one yet.
I’m able to make it through the first half of the boss battle, but I always falter during the second part. There were a few points where the boss was beaten down to only a quarter of their health, but I always ended up having my ass served to me on a silver platter. Two fucking hours and nothing to show for it other than sweaty palms and a seething rage from within.
I haven’t decided if I’ll try again tomorrow, or if I’ll trail off into something completely different. The amount of time I spent on this boss battle is ridiculous, and after seeing how other people on YouTube were able to defeat it so easily just makes me want to throw my controller out the fucking window. Note: I would never do that to my controllers, as I care about them too much, but it doesn’t stop me from fucking thinking about it.
Made it to the Mausoleum of the Fallen tonight… forgot how much of a pain this area is. I’ve managed to knock out half of the light barriers, plus I did some exploring in areas I wasn’t supposed to. 😛 At the beginning of the Mausoleum level there’s a gap you can shadow jump to, and it leads to outside of the level where you’ll find an open forest that doesn’t have much..
I was a bit stabbier during this session, but they’ve all been stealth kills. I also picked up the ability to send dead bodies to the shadow realm. Figured for a first full playthrough I can afford to be a tiny bit chaotic. I am an Overlord after all. :v For more pics from tonight’s adventure feel free to venture over to yonder Mastodon.
My current game has been going quite well. I’ve crafted a katana with electrical damage and soul trapping:
This time around I’m mostly relying on materials I find within the game rather than spawning them in the console (with a few exceptions such as my playermodel/armor and anything that doesn’t have a place in the game). I’ve even been crafting the scarves and halos from scratch.
Fun fact: To make that scarf I had to use a white scarf and red mountain flowers. Some of the ingredients to put scarves together are rather… unique. Like using butterfly wings and metals to get the desired colours. Fortunately I have a lot of stuff in my inventory with room to spare… Which to be fair I did increase with the console, but that’s kind of part of my character’s story. I can carry a ton o swag.
For Halloween my band of merry maniacs gathered in our Gmod sandbox server to check out de_fearmansion. If you like
Originally I wasn’t going to post about the whole GamerGate thing, mainly because the whole thing seemed so childishly stupid that I figured it wouldn’t last more than a week. Heh, that wouldn’t be the first time I’d find myself on the wrong side though. I forgot how the current generation tends to thrive on stupid.
For those who are fortunate to not know what GamerGate is I think it was covered quite nicely in this article:
(#Gamergate, for those unaware, is what happened a bit over a month ago, where an angry neckbeard posted demonstrably false allegations about his ex-girlfriend, claiming she slept with video game site reviewers for better scores for her games (again, demonstrably false), and then a whole bunch of other angry neckbeards on the Internet went full Denis Dyack and spitfrothed themselves into national attention by making an array of threats on numerous female game developers, including ones about their death, tried to hide behind a shield of “it’s about journalistic ethics because they said gamers are dead,” and generally proved why the Internet needs to be burned to the ground and the ashes salted.
Even if she did sleep with game reviewers to get a good review for a game that’s free… who the fuck cares? I mean seriously. Would they be saying the same thing if it was a guy? No, he’d be considered a stud. The only people I could see actually caring about this would be people who couldn’t get anywhere with women. Oops, I think I just described GamerGate. :v
I wouldn’t say that the term gamer is “dead” perse. But gaming has changed. It’s an ever evolving thing. Back in the old days you weren’t considered a gamer if you didn’t play board games, then you weren’t considered a real gamer if you didn’t play DnD, then later you weren’t considered a gamer if you didn’t play sidescrollers/platformers then FPS, etc etc. It’s becoming more inclusive. DEAL WITH IT.
Do I want to censor certain things from games? No! But if you’re going to have scantly clad women in a game I’d better see men wearing the same thing dammit. I mean equality, right? Here, lets make a goalpost.
When I see this make it into a game we’ll talk.
