Vacation Day 3: From Idaho To Wyoming

Traveled through Idaho today. It’s been very warm, summery weather for the entire trip so far.

While traveling, our eyes immediately were drawn to this mountain of numbers. I’m guessing local graduates have a tradition of covering the mountain with their graduation year, and if that’s the case this goes waaaaaaaaay back.

We made it to Wyoming this evening. Tomorrow we’ll be making our way to our next destination: Yellowstone. I didn’t get as many pictures as I liked last time, now I’ll have a couple of days to make up for it.

It’s The Final Countdown!

I’m 98% packed and ready to go! I also tested a lot of low demand games to see how they would perform (don’t want anything to crash on launch). I have a little over a hundred in titles to keep me busy, if I feel the need to. I have the tablet ready to tackle other hobbies too, if for some reason I need to quickly edit a photo or a recording I’m prepared for that too. I’m actually kind of interested in how long it would take to render on a Surface Pro 6. I would be plugged into the car, so power wouldn’t be an issue. If it’s as painful as I think it is I will at least have my gaming laptop when we’re in the hotels. I could edit the files on the tablet and then pull them over to the laptop to render.

I suppose I should attempt to do that thing called sleep.

Vacation Day 10: Knocking The Dust Off Of Streamin’

I did my first livestream in what feels like an eternity. There were some bumps along the way (a black screen on Twitch, still getting used to the new YouTube streaming layout, etc…). As is tradition we rolled with Skyrim, and midway through our journey my system crashed. The graphics driver couldn’t reset itself and I had to do a hard reset. My system reset itself yesterday while I had it idle. I did update the drivers under Windows recently, so it is possible that might be causing some problems. I’ve been gaming under Linux and Windows with games that are more intense than Skyrim and haven’t had anything strange. I might try doing a driver rollback if this continues.

Vacation Day 8: Late Night Open Thread Edition

Not much to report. Did a little animating, gaming, reading, cleaning, plotting, etc. Had a blast in Q3A with Yutram earlier, and played DMC5 for the rest of the night. Might touch up on some animation while finishing off some wine (the drinkable kind) and hydrating with a bit of tea.

Open Thread!

Vacation Day 6: RIP Creepy Faced Geralt?

Got out of town earlier in what I can now call yesterday. It felt nice to get out of town, admiring the trees and wildlife as we drove along. Other than that the temperature was cool enough today that I focused a little on some SFM stuff, and ran into a small problem.

Years ago I made this picture of Geralt in SFM for a friend of mine, and ever since then we all (along with her) decided this was one of her “personas” so to speak in our small circle jerk of friends. Naturally I like to include whatever characters a person wants to be if their voice happens to end up in one of my videos, the only exceptions are asshats, and Bong (and Bong is not an asshat, we just choose for him). I was looking to add her favorite Geralt model into my project today only to have SFM crash instantly. I tried loading other models that were associated (it was a model pack) and they all crashed. I tested this on both Windows and Linux and the results were evenly matched. I’ve tried other Geralt models but each one I’ve run across seems better for posing rather than animating. I’ve tried the SFM Workshop, SFM Lab, and even looking on the Gmod workshop for something to extract but… nope. Unless we find some workaround to get the model(s) to load properly again, I’ll have to animate one of her other alter egos. I’m still puzzled as to why these models would crash the entire program, given that SFM hasn’t had any updates in years I can’t see what the general cause would be.

Vacation Day 4:

So far Operation Not Detailing With Asshats has been a big success. I woke up early this morning and did brunch at the local Irish pub, then I came home and slept the breakfast and mimosa off (and I have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow). It was nice hot summery weather today, made iced tea and played around on my gaming laptop. Managed to get Spyro to work under the Linux. Maaaaan this vacation is going nicely.

I’m baaaack!

I had a wonderful time. It was wonderful to see new parts of the country, visit family that I’ve never met, or even seen in years, and overall it was just really nice to get the hell out of town and do something different for a change.

The first day of the journey was pretty hard on the cats, but every day that followed they were naturals… especially Morty, despite what his face may imply.

Help?

We’ll be taking them everywhere now. I even walked Morty on a leash yesterday and he’s a natural… I swear he’s seems more puppy than cat.

We’re going to have to make another trip to Yellowstone; road work and time constraints prevented us from going through the whole experience, but what little we saw was enough to whet the appetite until we go back again.

For the most part I found Utah to be boring, but this spot was beautiful. I found it to be too harsh and salty otherwise… kinda like one of my bosses, who happens to hail from Utah oddly enough…

Overall I had a good time, and I even have a few days to muck about before going back to work! I’m mostly spending my first day back drinking some tea, going through my photos, getting caught up on what’s happened since I’ve been away. I still have some catching up to do. :melon:

Mountains with weird letters on them and other random things

The last couple days of travel have been long, mostly desert sand. Beautiful in its own way, but not much else to really look at. You definitely learn to appreciate the greenery, it isn’t quite the same in Nevada or Utah. We passed the Salt Flats yesterday, that was pretty cool. Unfortunately we were moving the entire time and I couldn’t snap a proper picture. While leaving Nevada yesterday I had a laugh at a mountain that only had two letters on it… Bong, why are you going around tagging mountains in the states? and why Nevada of all places?

The first day of travel was not very kind to our kitties, day one was pretty hard for them. Day two though yielded more relaxed cats.

We’re taking off in a bit, hopefully I’ll have more pictures to share. :v:

I also notice that the poll I made is currently at a tie between Skyrim and Broforce. :zorak: If you haven’t voted yet the poll goes through October 2nd. :melon:
