I think I need to take more vacation

On Saturday I had to magically make 9 giant loads of freight disappear in 3 hours. I was successful in getting it off of the floor, but wasn’t able to work it efficiently. I looked at our shipping manifest and I’m trying to figure out how anyone could drop the ball on this, the amount of freight we were expected to receive on paper should have raised an eyebrow and I should have been told to come in earlier to properly finish it. But despite all of that I finish, albeit one day later.

So as a result I’ve been passing out after work the last couple of days. This week is going to be REALLY interesting because more hours have been cut, and for the two busiest freight days I’ve been scheduled only 4 hours to get my work done. Meaning there will be a good chance that I’ll be leaving my work for others to finish, if they can even finish it with the summer traffic coming in. I’m not stressing about this, if anything I feel like I’m the one standing around watching Rome burn around me while eating popcorn.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

I know I haven’t written much. I still haven’t been feeling completely up to it because of some things that I’ve had on my mind. I’ve been drowning the better part of my afternoons in hobbies trying to ignore the work drama. It’s summertime and they’ve been cutting hours practically down to the bone marrow. I’ve been having to come in an hour later which so far hasn’t had a huge impact on me, fortunately most of my loads have been pretty light, or I’ve been fast enough to move it off the floor before the store opens while doing my other morning duties. People who have been there longer than me are being made to be on call or laid off, and one person that I work with is threatening to quit because they don’t want to work for an unfair company… Heh, good luck. That’s most companies in America.

I’ve been relatively quiet for the most part, the changes are weird but I’m trying to adapt. It hasn’t been too horrible for me, although I’d prefer more people around. Customers are getting pissed that there aren’t enough of us to help them, which is understandable since for the most part there have been only two people lately. Hell I heard the other day that everyone who worked didn’t take any breaks or lunches because they were so busy. I don’t know if that’s true or not, though if it is I can see it happening. Hell sometimes it’s hard for me to leave at the end of the day because people keep asking for help even though it’s more than obvious that I’m leaving. They don’t care, they want someone to help them… and we’re providing less of it. And I’ve been hearing “Is there someone else besides you here?” quite a lot lately when I’m already with someone. But complaining to the higher up’s will only do fuckall, so I might as well grab some popcorn and watch Rome burn, even if I’m sitting right in the middle of it with everyone else.

I only have two more days of this before I take my time off. I really need to get my brain away from this shit and into something more positive… Like enough margaritas to tranquilize an elephant.

Holiday Weekend Open Thread

The 4th of July weekend has barely started and I’m already fatigued. On the bright side I FINALLY have the day off when the 4th happens, only took me about 9 years to get it off… Hooray?

Fortunately customers have been nice for the most part, with a few oddballs from time to time. I had one guy today who wanted me to evaluate his laptop to see how much it was worth, not something that we do but I figured meh, why not?

He wanted to get at least $80 for his tiny Panasonic laptop, the parts in it were too old, the processor was an old Intel Celeron running at 1.8ghz, and a gig of RAM with XP Home. It would cost more to spruce it up than it would be worth to sell. Would be a great candidate for a Linux distro. You know, make it into a lean light web appliance, but he didn’t have the know how, which was understandable since he didn’t even know the differences between Windows versions. I could have probably shown him Windows 1.0 and he would have thought it was some new innovative thing. He tried to get me to buy it because it could “play games”, I didn’t laugh… but I have to tell you it was pretty hard, even for me with my super serious stone cold poker face.

Now that I’ve slept for a couple of days, here’s a post

Took a couple days off from writing, on Saturday I was pretty rekt from work. We had a big load of TV’s and printers which equaled a lot of arm and leg work. It also didn’t help that I was sleep deprived too. One of the few downsides to this job is the early to bed early to rise thing, and with summer in full swing you can sometimes hear a lot of partying noise. It’ll be about another month before I partake in that sort of thing, put in for vacation woop woop!

Tested out my new bike that day too. Real nice. It’s a Schwinn 700c series, hybrid city/mountain bike. Got it for $260 with shipping. 😀 I’ve been looking around on Amazon for things to pimp it out with, like lights and maybe an mp3 player. Might even get some saddle bags and have them modified to fit on the back. There’s a nice spot behind the seat for putting whatever you want. Would be nice to go out whenever and pick up my own groceries or some other swag.

Calling it an early day

I’m needed at midnight tonight, so I’ve just finished having a bite and getting settled in. Work was a little strange today. I walked into the stockroom this morning and found a crime scene left by a now former co-worker. He barricaded our stairs off with caution tape that said “Epic Fail” (fitting that he’d own such a thing… I’m guessing it’s leftovers from his bedroom or something) and a silhouette of himself on the floor with the words “RIP” and his name. Honestly it would have been funnier if it were a chalk outline.

Now, when I say former co-worker I don’t mean he was punished for this. He put in his two weeks notice, yesterday was his last day in our department… he moved to another one. It’s going to be really awkward when our bosses see the pictures we took of the “crime scene”, and even more awkward when shared with his new boss.

The rest of the day wasn’t much better…

I thought the older were wiser

I’m not sure what it is, but my last couple of work days have been a bit more interesting than usual. On Sunday I had a lady that didn’t know what the word “simplistic” meant, and yesterday I had another lady that didn’t know what a “commercial” was. Both ladies were at least in their mid to late 50’s, and native English speakers.

Here’s what happened on Sunday: I helped a lady who wanted to find a Windows 10 compatible mouse, and I told her that all the mice we sold were simplistic to install, she interrupts me and asks me “What does simplistic mean? Does it mean it’s simple?” I wanted to pull a mirror out of my pocket, have her look into it and tell her “No, I’m talking about you…” But other than that she was a nice person, but strange… She wanted to know if I knew the tax rates of all other 49 states because, you know, that’s something that I should know right? Turns out she lived in California and wanted to buy a steam gift card to get Stardew Valley for herself. More power to her, but she kept asking me math questions to try and get me to confirm answers for her…

Of course that was much more pleasant than the other lady. She was an all out total bitchface. She wanted to buy a TV, and she was looking at the commercials playing on all the TV’s assuming that what was on the TV had something to do with it… it was a commercial for Uncharted 4. I explained that to her and then she said “WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL?” Which threw me the fuck off because how can you not know? Especially since I’m pretty sure she was around when the first commercial was invented… So I explained it to her, telling her that it’s an advertisement for a Playstation 4 game “Oh, well I don’t want that.”. Already I was missing the Stardew lady… When did words like “Simplistic” and “Commercial” become too scary and confusing for people? Son of a bitch… No wonder Donald Trump won the GOP. I’m a fucking thesaurus compared to Mr “I’m good at words”.

Oh well, on the same day Stardew lady needed help I did help a friendly gay couple choose between Star Wars Battlefront and Fallout 4 by telling them that it was “Skyrim With Guns”, and we all laughed. So maybe there is still some hope for humanity…

All work and no play makes me want to play even more

I spent most of yesterday futzing around with my own wordpress install, and today with the doctor’s wordpress. It’s nearing completion! I just need to turn a form into a PDF, and get a paypal setup of somekind rolling and I should be finished. From then on out it’ll just be basic maintenance and any addons they want me to install.

I’d post more, but my weekend was cut a bit short. I was supposed to have off tomorrow but have to cover for one of my incompetent co-workers… Such suck is life.

Doctors Doctors Doctors

I had an appointment the other day with a doctor for the first time in about 4 years, needed to get something checked and the good news is that I’m fine. I’ve scheduled another appointment two months out for something else. Then yesterday I went into the dentists office to show off my latest setup for their website, which they loved. Other than the doctor had no idea what this was:

brushpaste

So I’ll have to switch it out with another picture, which is no big deal. There’s plenty of free non-copyrighted pictures of that type to choose from. 😀 Also took some more photos for the website, so my plans are going to be real photoshop heavy… that and I’ll be researching some additional plugins. Also they had an opening for a tooth cleaning appointment for next Monday, so that was convenient. Now I just need to get with an eye doctor and I’ll be fully calibrated.

Back to my irregularly scheduled blogging

Well, I’ve done my parts both at work and designing the website. Looks like I might be doing an overhaul already, on Thursday I’ll know for sure. The Doc wants lots and lots of buttons and beach scenery, one way or another he’ll be getting those. 😀

Freight was extremely small even for a Tuesday. It was all in an extremely small shopping cart, and half of it was stuff we can’t release until next month (movies) and the other half was power cables that we already have plenty of, so I mostly worked the backstock. Which worked out nicely since it appears no one else is really working anything to the shelf it seems. I don’t want to go into detail, but we have ten employees. Three of them are guys who don’t know when to stop screwing off, one that is extremely unaware of her surroundings (and she’s kinda pervy towards one of the managers), one that doesn’t know when to stop talking and get the job done, and a manager that is too busy with his head between a couple of Russian funbags to communicate things properly with the rest of the staff. So it’s no wonder things look like shite when I arrive in the morning lately. Ugh…

Open Thread

Yesterday I was too busy/tired to write anything. My main job wiped my ass out, and after work I went over to the doc’s office to take care of their SSL certs. I’ll be heading over there again next week to discuss other things involving the site, and also I’ll be doing some photography for them. They wanted to take pics of the offices using a smartphone, I volunteered my camera for the job. It has more megapixels. 😛

Then when I got home I played around a bit in Skyrim and made dinner. We had a nice chicken potato curry, and there’s lots of leftovers which will ensure that I’ll have plenty of food for work. 😛

So today I decided to relax instead with the usual activities. I’ve been following the Path Of The Druid quest and gained the ability to become an ice wolf.

There are other abilities I can obtain, like fire and earth. Right now I just think it’s funny being able to shapeshift into an ice breathing wolf at will. 😛

Oh, and I had a scary occurrence.
