Yeah, I’m still here…

I usually try to post at least once a day. I sure blew that one didn’t I? 😛

I’ve just been tired both mentally and physically. I’ve even started getting these strange headaches that only last for about a second. It’s very hard to describe but they happen mostly when I’m at work, and very rarely during my off time. It only happened once today, but if I’m at work it happens up to two or three times. I’ve been keeping track of it but also trying not to worry about it. Work has been pretty stressful though. As usual they’ve been finding ways to cut us shorter at night. If they have their way in a few years there will be one person running the entire store. But yeah, lately it’s mostly been two people doing everything after 7pm which leaves us with 4 hours of dealing with summer traffic. I’ll be taking some time off next Thursday though for about a week so hopefully I’ll get my shit together.

So during my offtime I’ve been just playing games, researching this and that. Like tonight when I decided to try out OBS, an open source alternative to video capture programs such as FRAPS. It’s free and has a ton of features, such as plugins, the ability to record different video formats, overlays and a bunch of other fun stuff. I like the idea that I can record full 1080 to an flv/mp4 file. That’ll make my recording drives keep more storage for projects. 😀

Early Morning Open Thread

I have everything up and running on Fedora 20 so far. I did run into a kernal panic relating to my video driver though. So if it keeps up I might have to revert back to 19. The only problem I had under that was voice corruption over mumble (and maybe other programs without realizing it) which can be avoided by leaving out some updates, and since the latest kernal update seems to hate me on both versions I might as well roll back. Not now though, I’ll continue to ride this out and see if I can fix anything with it. I have a busy weekend ahead of me.

As usual I have to work memorial day weekend. The tourists are already here and man some of them are crazy. One of them tried to get me to meet up with them at one of the local bars and got upset when I turned them down. I was polite too, they didn’t like the idea that I didn’t date customers (or employees for that matter). I got him on his toes though when I gave a big smile and told him to have a nice day. Turns out that guy was with a couple other dudes, and they were shoplifting… You know, given the choice to either date one of these dudes or be forever alone, the latter somehow seems more peaceful.

Another Open Thread

I can honestly say that Sunday was a total drag. We were swamped, understaffed, and our boss gave all of us her work to do. Which we got done but our jobs suffered for it. Every single section looked like a disaster which I’m sure she’s loving right now. Especially since there is supposed to be a corporate visit.

If they call me in early (and I’m pretty sure they will) I’m going to enjoy a well deserved sleep. It’s my 7th work day anyway and I be plum tuckered out. She can at least be thankful that I cleaned out my fitting rooms. In one I’m pretty sure someone stole a pair of underwear. Someone left behind a thoroughly blood soaked pair as a gift for us. Oh well, this doesn’t happen too often. I remember we also had a guy leave us some leftover knuckle children on the floor one of men’s fitting rooms. People are so thoughtful and considerate of others. Also very giving…

Gotta love living in the brawndo era.

Weekend Open Thread

Today will be my final full work shift. They’ve started cutting hours (it was only a matter of time). It’s a bummer since less hours means less money (unless they try to call me in at the last minute), but in a way I’m a little ok with it since they’re working me 8 days straight. Tomorrow I’ll stay up a bit later and have an epic sleep. 🙂

KABOOM!

So lunch time finally happens. I take my laptop downstairs and plugin at the cafe, which was then followed by a nice well sized electrical spark. I looked to see if my laptop shorted or if my power supply exploded but it seems the damage was done inside the outlet. It was a bit of a surprise and luckily I didn’t get hurt as well as my equipment.

Hopefully something gets done about it. Leaving it like is just begging for someone to sue you.

The calm before the storm

It has been ghostly dead at work the last few days I’ve been in. I’m noticing a trend that as it gets closer to the end of the month fewer people come in. Obviously people are running out of money, in fact I imagine Wal-Mart will have an even worse turn out as they’ve been noticing far worse trends. This will change when the first of the month arrives, and people get their govt checks, foodstamps, retirement money, and stomp our asses on Geriatric Tuesday.

Murica’, fuck yeah.

The foods that keep me going

I got lucky. Someone switched a day off with me due to some plans they have. So I won’t have to work 10 9 hour work days straight! My days are split but at least I get a short break. I’ve done a good job bringing my lunches regularly and not forgetting to make anything. For most of the week I brought salads and some Mexican rice. For my “Friday” I’m bringing a nice big slice of pizza. Because FPS and pizza go hand in hand. Just ask anyone who has ever been to a LAN party.

I’m thinking for next week I’ll make a Hungarian dish. I’ve been reading one of my European cookbooks to try and come up with something different. One of the things I found was a recipe that mainly consisted of a homemade tomato sauced kind of stew with sausage and seasoned with sweet Hungarian paprika, then topped with an egg. There’s also a recipe for a cold cherry soup (which is more of a wine punch) that I’ll make during my off time. I still have some leftover rice though, so maybe I’ll make some soup with it and some vegetables I have lying around.

Oh, and as if I haven’t talked about food enough I tried some watermelon hibiscus tea tonight. I thought it was delicious. Not enough to order online but as a free sample I found it to be quite refreshing. My tea for bed tonight consists of green tea and delicious dried cherries. I really like this and the green tea blueberry one. Hopefully my refill for it will arrive soon. I’m already running low. 😛

Taking it easy.

I haven’t had proper sleep the last two nights, today when I looked at my reflection in my laptop I could tell I looked very corpse like. The first thing I’ve been doing when I get home every night is making dinner, putting some tea on, taking a shower, doing a little gaming, packing a lunch and getting my clothes and other stuff ready for the next day. I think the playing can wait until tomorrow at least (I did a bit during lunch anyway). Need to catch up on some Z’s so I can actually function properly in a game. 😛

It also looks like I’ll be getting full shifts for another two weeks too! So I still won’t be around as much but at least I’ll be making an extra bit of cash which is always good. People can also take a good break from me in the meantime. Unless they’re reading these posts, then they’re just nuts.

This is why you don’t shop over the phone.

Last night I got a weird call at work. I had to deal with a man calling on behalf of his wife who wanted to know how well Carhartt jeans fit compared to Levis and Wranglers. The conversation involved me repeating myself over and over again, getting creeped out by the guy in general, and me trying to keep utmost patience.

First, I had to explain that we no longer carry ladies sizes in Carhartt, and that if she wanted any she would require a man’s size. He wanted to know if they came in a size 8 and I had to explain to him that men’s pants are not sized that way (they go by waist and height rather than just a number). I had to repeat that a few times. He wasn’t deaf or anything, he was just trying everything he could to shop over the phone.

Then he wanted to know if I would know how they would fit compared to other pairs of jeans and I told him there really wasn’t a difference for, but that’s just me. He thought this meant that these jeans would fit perfectly for ANYONE and I had to explain no, people have personal preferences. What one person likes could be what another person doesn’t fit into. And with sizing varying from country to country and company to company it would be best to have her try them on herself (I had to repeat that 17 times. I counted). He wanted to know what size I wore, and I tried to give an example but couldn’t remember if it were 30×32’s or 32×30’s that I wore. “So you’re a medium size right? Are you a heavy medium or a thin medium?”. Then he told me that his wife was 5 ft 4 and wanted to know my size. When I told him he said “Wooow you must be all leg” I tried not to barf… Then I had to explain to him that she might have issues finding a size that she won’t have to hem. I again recommend coming in and having her try them on, and at that point he held the phone up to his wife so I could explain this to her. Because apparently him just telling her “Lets go shopping and try pants on tomorrow” was too difficult to of a phrase to speak of. What was really creepy though was that when I tried to talk to her I heard no female voice. She didn’t speak, I didn’t hear any breathing, it was just the guy telling me “Don’t worry she can hear you!”.

After 20 minutes of repeating myself and him asking me about my dimensions and height he finally decided to give it a rest. He asked what our closing time was and I told him we were closing in 30 minutes. After wondering if they would make it down on time he decided that they would just go shopping in the morning.

That’s assuming said woman actually exists and that he wasn’t actually just getting his jollies. I guess he makes regular calls to the others asking about young teens pants and wants to speak to workers who wear them… Oh well, I guess it’s cheaper to call stores rather sex hotlines.

What a way to start the day!

Remember how I said I didn’t know my schedule? Well, looks like I didn’t have the slightest idea (aside from knowing my days off were split). They rewrote it apparently and didn’t say anything. Thought I was supposed to go in at 3pm today and it turned out I was supposed to be there at 2pm. Luckily I was already awake today when they called. So I didn’t have to jump out of bed and leave in a huff.

I have the day off today. Wonder what I’ll do. 😛
