The Mind Of OverlordTomala

Progress!

Tonight’s vm setup was a little more successful. I don’t have them up and running yet, but all files have been copied over for me to begin plugging everything together tomorrow! While waiting for files to copy I got a little more animation done in SFM; I’m about a minute and a half of animation in so far, and another 3 and a half minutes to go… give or take. All of these things require great patience… and tea.

It’s Been A Nerdy Ass Weekend

The blog(s) went down again this morning — fortunately it was right when I was waking up to check them. Everything seemed to clear up again when I removed the plugins folder, and that gave me a good excuse to start removing plugins that currently are currently not in use. I’ve been slowly adding different things back in throughout the day. Hopefully nothing funny happens while I’m at work tomorrow… I’d hate to have to think about it all throughout my shift.

On a brighter note I worked a little more in SFM on my October project. I’m thinking I might tear into the VM’s for the gameservers again in a day or two. I ran into a snag with the new GMod VM, and so far the easiest option for me would probably be to delete it and start over. It was still in a pretty basic setup, so it isn’t a big loss. I’ll also have to do the same for the Quake III VM’s in the future, but those have enough resources on them for now for me to not worry about it. Focus on fixing all of the other sheeeeeeeeet.

Trading JRPGS for Indies

I guess I didn’t have much energy to post yesterday… I blame NieR’s musical score for lulling me to sleep. I did wake up this morning with some fine energy, made a good breakfast and did a few things around the house. Oh, and of course there was some 4K gaming shenanigans. 😛 But I gave the Japanese RPG games a rest, and focused on playing some Unreal Engine Indie Games like Overload, and BPM: Bullets Per Minute.

I still suck at it, but I did at least get an achievement for getting out of the first two levels! It’s an FPS Roguelike where you can only shoot to the beat of the music, all the while traversing a dungeon that changes each time you die, which makes the gameplay much less stale at least.

On this particular playthough I happened to find a bank! Handy for stashing extra coinage when I don’t have a use for it. As an added bonus if you find the bank again after you die you’ll be able to retrieve your coins. That came in handy this evening for buying some pricey powerups that can’t easily be obtained within one dungeon romp. As much as I keep dying it’s oddly addicting to play.

Meanwhile… On My Corner Of The Interwebz

I got the Quake III Arena Servers up and running last night, and tonight I spun up VM for the GMod Servers. I pretty much have everything in place other than the server files; I’ll work on transferring them over and setting it all up the rest of the way. If I don’t get stuck in dependency hell I should have both GMod’s up and running tomorrow evening under Alma. The old VM for GMod was at 95% on disk space. I took out GMod Cinema to make room, and also expanded for potential future servers. I’ve been thinking one of these weekends I’d like to see what other Gamemodes GMod has to offer; perhaps even gather some Slackers together to do some science!

Obligatory Chuckie Kitten Post

In other news: Stewie and Morty haven’t murdered Chuckie yet, despite his many attempts at annoying them. He continues to be a little fireball around the house, and has taken a habit of joining me in the bathroom whenever I brush my teeth:

Much like his Uncle Morty, Chuckie is not afraid of water. If I leave the sink on long enough he’ll start playing around in it. He’ll even use the sink as his little charging pad. It’ll be interesting to see what happens once he’s old enough to adventure outdoors, especially during the rainy seasons. His Uncle has no qualms about playing in the rain.

Pressing Forward, Laying Backwards

Did more server work this evening. I made a backup of the current gameserver files, and got Samba up and running under AlmaLinux to perform the file transfer. It was fun trying to remember how it all worked — I haven’t setup a Samba share in an eternity. One of the problems with setting up a Linux server is that once you have it deployed it remains reliable (when configured properly) enough that when it comes time to upgrade or switch OS’s it’s fun trying to remember what to setup, what to give permissions to, etc.

Tomorrow’s goal will be to boot the Quake III Servers. It’ll give me a potential excuse to shoot some shit, and old school! Shit… that means I’m gonna have to mod Quake to run in 4K! XD

And So It Begins

I’ve started work on a new VM today! I’ve only setup a blank AlmaLinux install so far, but the building blocks are there for me to continue another day, hopefully tomorrow. I don’t have much else to write, as that was most of my evening. I’d like to get started on transferring files over to start the Quake 3 Servers, then I can focus on the Gmod and L4D VM’s.

Returning To Another Fantasy

The planets aligned in such a way that Yutram and I were able to play a game together! We settled on Borderlands 2, as we remembered we were playing the Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep DLC being a barrel o’ laughs. Other than a glitch with one of the boss battles tonight we not only had a good time, but finished it! Well, the main storyline in the DLC anyway… there are still some sidequests to finish/pick up. My only other complaint about the DLC would probably be the credits, they felt longer than the actual content.
