Sunday Of Play

Today was one of those days where I couldn’t settle on just one game. Began by getting one final achievement in AMID EVIL, freeing up a few gigs for my gaming library, unlocked a new ship in Whisker Squadron Survivor, played a bit of Neo Cab on my Steam Deck, and then inevitably ended the evening with BG3.

We rescued Minthara and made Astarion read a pretty yet evil book, and made a small child whole again… hopefully. Other than that we did typical adventuring and looted all of the things. It’s a good note to end the evening on.

And So It Ends… For Now.

Decided to end tonight by completing The Black Labyrinth! Truly a stunning DLC from start to finish, just as beautiful and crazy as the base game. It was so much fun to come back and play AMID EVIL again! I’ll need to return to it someday to obtain one more achievement to once again 100% the game. It gives me an excuse to go back and find the secrets I missed the first time. 🙂

If they made another DLC campaign for this, or even a sequel I’d happily look forward to it. The amount of imagination that went into crafting these levels is far beyond stunning. It’s always a mix of joy and sadness when I finally finish a game with an actual ending.

Lucky for me I have plenty of other ones to try and finish! 😛 What will the weekend bring me? Only a goodnight’s rest and one more day of hell will get me there.

The Final Challenge Awaits… Next Time

Ventured deeper into AMID EVIL’s Black Labyrinth this evening. Made it a couple levels further, and even scored an achievement for reaping 10 souls with the scythe, I’m getting really close to 100% again on achievements! I’m also well poised for next time:

On the otherside of that open door a challenge awaits me. I was hoping to get this wrapped up tonight but juuuuuuust ran out of time. I might consider wrapping up the challenge tomorrow night.

Assuming I don’t get lost looking in the level for secrets. 😛

I Walk Amid The Evils Of The Black Labyrinth

It’s been over a month since I’ve continued my trials in The Black Labyrinth, but the time away didn’t slow me down any! I made it through The Hole, and at the start of the next level! It was fun climbing giant swords, and as usual I made sure all enemies were slain… now I just need to to a future playthrough to find all the secrets. 😛 More pics can be found over at Masto.

A CLUE! A CLUE!

Made it through another level of the Black Labyrinth! Not only is there a lot of fighting, there is also some puzzle solving… WITH A PUNCH!!!

It was a good hour well spent. It was either going to be this or Brutal Legend tonight, and they’re both pretty metal IMO…

The Black Labyrinth Awaits

I ascended the tower on the dark coast of the AMID EVIL Black Labyrinth DLC. I always marvel at the thought put into the level design, it’s on par or exceeds the base game in terms of creativity.

The optional Ray Tracing features also render nicely without taking much of a punch to my framerate. Makes for a lovely fighting arena. 🙂

Survived the first boss battle! The Storm Spirit! I slain the dragon with my scythe, planets and other weapons I had at my disposal. It was fun being picked up by the Dragon and getting tossed into the air, it makes me wonder what the other boss(es) will be like.

The scenery has a habit of catching you off guard if you’re not careful. I was surprised by the giant swords that pelted the outside walls of the labyrinth. They were not my enemy though, they assisted me in getting further through my journey. Now I’m at a nice safe location for when I decide to pick up next. 🙂

Tomala’s UNREAL Indie Gaming Weekend

Today was a productive day… for my gaming collection! I got all of the achievements in AMID EVIL, and I even decided to play a little bit of Abyss Odyssey for the heckuvit!

Since I spent most of my last weekend sifting through video footage, I figured I would give myself a true break from it and chill in a couple different gaming worlds that have been collecting digital dust on my digital shelf. Now I won’t have to touch AMID EVIL again until The Black Labyrinth DLC releases. As for Abyss Odyssey? I’m not sure if I’ll ever complete this one. I like it, but the controls feel a little clunky. I imagine if I do complete it it’ll be somewhere between now and old age. 😛

Sunday Evening Open Thread

Did a small bit of clean up today, mainly brushing the floor and some pick up. It inspired me to also clean off my desk, at least to make room to charge the laptop. 😛 I drained half the battery playing DMC5, not bad for about 45 mins of gameplay!

Proton Powered Yakuza

Speaking of gameplay, that was pretty much how I decompressed for the rest of the day. Under Linux I played a bit of AMID EVIL, then I experimented with Yakuza Kiwami. I’m happy to report that Yakuza didn’t crash once, and it also had no problem pulling up my Windows save from the cloud. In fact, from what I’ve gathered so far, the performance was pretty much on par with Windows. I’ll need to analyze it further, and see if Yakuza 0 works properly now. 😛

The last bit of the evening was spent in Borderlands 3, ending my week long vacation away from Windows just so I could slay some creeps with a good buddy and one final London Fog Latte. It’s gonna be fun trying to nod off tonight…

My (slightly) EPIC Gaming Day

I was going to do a livestream tonight, but ran into a nasty crash. After further diagnosis I found out my webcam was the culprit, at least when used in junction with my streamdeck and OBS. By the time I finished troubleshooting it was too late for me to want to stream, but that didn’t stop us from playing a little BL3. I also did a little achievement hunting earlier in AMID EVIL for the fun of it. I finished a level without killing anyone and found the hidden EVIL difficulty. It was a little challenging corralling the enemies around the map without killing myself or accidentally triggering friendly fire, but after some trial and error I managed to traverse all the hurdles without getting stuck in any thin corridors with an entire army of douchecanoes.

Adding AMID EVIL To My Finished Game Roster

AMID EVIL goes on the list of games that I either pre-ordered or supported early on before an official final release, and I’m happy to say I finished it with flying colors, as in colorful weapons killing monsters left and right.

We’ve seen Doom inspire many shooters over these last couple decades (and even re-imagine itself), but when it came to successors to games like Hexen or Heretic that seemed to be a niche no one ever really thought to fill. I’m not sure why other than maybe the lack of guns… but who needs guns when you have a trident that strikes lightning upon your enemies? Or an ice wand that shoves icy dildos into your opponents torso? How about a really fabulous weapons that looks like purple ribbons, but is actually one of the most chaotic weapons in the entire fucking game?

On top of the amazing weapon selection there is also the level design. Some levels had you jump from floating giant droplets of water, to floors appearing under your feet as you walk. There are also tons of secrets throughout these worlds, meaning it gives me some replay value. This is one of those games I’ve played quite a bit between home and work, it feels just right on the Steam Controller.

This game was a delight from start to finish. I would love to see workshop support, and maybe even a sequel. 24/10 will probably play over and over again.
