Autumn Oatmeal: Apples & Cinnamon

It’s been awhile since I’ve wanted to make any oatmeal, and with the weather getting cooler it only makes sense to make something warm to enjoy in the morning. If you want to make this yourself you can use:

  • 1 scoop of oatmeal
  • 1 and a half cups of Apple Juice or Cider
  • 1/4 cup of pecans
  • 1/2 cup of diced apples
  • 1/2 tsp of fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp of brown sugar
  • a handful of dried cranberries (optional)
  • a dash of cinnamon

It makes about two bowls. Cooking the oatmeal in the apple juice really gives it an extra flavour boost!

Oatmeal Weekend

A Bowl Of Sunshine

I decided this weekend would be an oatmeal weekend. I haven’t had any in awhile, and had plenty of fruit in the freezer to make a couple good bowls. Yesterday was a blueberry peach dragonfruit bowl; and today was a orange pineapple mango banana bowl. When I used to visit my grandma she always had some orange pineapple banana juice for me to drink. The taste brought back some fond memories.

If you want to make this, all you need is 1 1/2 cups of orange juice, chopped banana, mango and pineapple, small oranges (like mandarins or clementines), honey and pecans. I didn’t have any banana, so I substituted Nesquik Banana. It was all the right bits of sweet and tangy, and most importantly filling. 😛

Going Bananas

Or Banana Nesquik rather… Decided to put a spoonful of the banana powder in my overnight oat mixture and it tasted pretty good mixed with chocolate chips and a touch of granola. I have a couple healthier ones to finish out the week, been doing my best to try and plan ahead. I made a blueberry matcha one, and a strawberry one with garden strawberries and some (British) strawberry nesquik for extra vitamins and natural strawberry.

I would have also shared another round chicken dinner porn, but I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. Oh well, consider yourselves spared!

No, this isn’t chili

But it is really good! It’s a special oatmeal I made with British Strwaberry Nesquik (it has vitamins and natural strawberry believe it or not, unlike the Murican version which has artificial flavoring and little to no nutritional value), chopped strawberries from the garden, pecans and dark chocolate chips. It’s more of a valentines day flavor I guess, but it was a cold morning, and I wanted something sweet. I was not disappointed!

This concludes Weekend Breakfast at the Overlord’s. Tune in next week when I decide to do another thing! (Descriptive I know…)

Oatmeal: Elvis Edition

I’ll have to backtrack what I said yesterday about oatmeal, it was cold today and I happened to have all the ingredients on hand to make some peanut butter  banana oatmeal with praline pecans and a little honey. I didn’t have to think about food for hours, it was a nutty sweet bit of landfill. I sliced half a banana and mashed the other half, similiar to how I prepared my breakfast quinoa yesterday. I wanted some natural creaminess from the banana mixed with the milk and the peanut butter.

Dessert For Breakfast

It might look the same way going out, but going in tastes better.

I revamped my mint chocolate oatmeal bowl recipe this morning to include straight up chocolate chips, walnuts  and brown sugar. It tasted like I was eating a bowl of liquid oatmeal cookie, it was bliss. If you need guidance in making your own:

  • One scoop of oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk or milk substitute
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • A few drops of vanilla and mint extract
  • Walnuts: chopped or ground
  • 1/4 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips or to taste

Mix both extracts into the milk, pour milk over oatmeal in saucepan. Set heat to medium and heat through. Add sugar and walnuts, lower heat to medium low. Once the oatmeal has thickened stir in the chocolate chips. I decided to save them for last just so I could get a good mix of milk chocolate oatmeal, and have some semi melted chocolate chip pieces to savor in an otherwise already decadent bowl of gruel. This will definitely give you the energy to finish building up an email server, or anything else you fucking need to do.

Watermelon Oatmeal is a thing now… I’ve decided

Out of morbid curiosity I wanted to see if I could make a particular oatmeal with an infusion of juice and tea. Waters and milks are frequently used in making oatmeal, so why not juice, tea or both? After all tea is basically water with tasty plants. So this little experiment consists of green tea with ginseng, watermelon juice, honey, and walnuts. I might have to look into making an overnight oats version to enjoy the taste of cold watermelon, although it did taste good warm as well.

Obligatory Food Post

It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to make a food post… I must change that.

My brother was kind and decided to buy me an entire watermelon yesterday, and I wanted to have it with a fruit themed breakfast. Over my holiday I started working on a recipe for creamsicle oatmeal, and pretty much have the ingredients down. I use milk mixed with vanilla extract, orange juice, a nut of some sort (walnuts and/or pecans do nicely), and for added sweetness I’ve been using homemade golden syrup, but honey or regular sugar would also work. I’ve made creamsicle oatmeal three times now, and I’ve really been enjoying the blend of cream with actual orange juice. Some people might think it strange to use juice with oatmeal, but this isn’t my first time.

This is a tropical blueberry oatmeal bowl I made awhile back, and instead of using water or milk as the base I used blueberry lemonade and added my blend of fruits and nuts. I didn’t need to add any sugar, it was already provided in the lemonade.

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a handcrafted lunch smoothie, and so I decided to whip up a peanut butter and apple smoothie using greek yogurt, milk, peanut butter, cinnamon, frozen apple cubes, and a small bit of golden syrup. It was good, but I’m thinking of using less milk next time… too runny for my liking.

Repairing my stomach with warm sweetness

I wasn’t feeling too well last night. Around lunch time yesterday I couldn’t find my overnight oatmeal breakfast. At first I thought I left it in my backpack but it wasn’t there, and I doubled checked the fridge at work but couldn’t find it either. I automatically assumed that I left it at home by mistake and decided to buy some sushi for myself and figured I would have my breakfast lunch for actual lunch when I get home… but at the end of the work day when I got my groceries out of the fridge I noticed it was in there at the forefront ready to be consumed :morty: . I know I didn’t miss it at lunch, there was hardly anything in the fridge taking up residence. My first thought was that maybe I left it on the ground in the locker room by mistake (not that it would matter since it was insulated) or one of the asshats at work tried to pull some form of prank (as is tradition among asshats at work they refuse to fire due to poor hiring rates). I reluctantly disposed of it… always hate seeing food go to waste but I didn’t want to take any chances.

My meal choices weren’t really that… great yesterday. The sushi tasted good, but it was too spicy for my work morning, lunch was homemade nachos from the night before, and for dinner we were too tired to make anything and ordered Burger King. That was enough for my stomach to flip me off this morning; sleeping was terrible… I got about 6 hours on and off due to waking up with stomach pain constantly. I finally got over it after making myself some caramel banana oatmeal to make myself feel better after losing out on trying the overnight version. That cured my belly and caused me to go into a two hour coma to make up for lost sleep. I started my day later than I wanted to, but hey at least I felt better. Not so much now though. :zorak: I might have to do more oatmeal therapy in the morning.

Portable Oatmeal

I didn’t have enough yogurt to make a parfait and felt now would be a good time to start experimenting with that whole “overnight oats” concept I’ve been hearing about. I currently have this particular experiment sleeping in the fridge til morning. I didn’t include the protein powder, although I did add some peanut butter on top. I also used frozen blueberries, grated frozen ginger, three berry granola and shredded coconut. It smells really good, and I added enough matcha to satisfy both the palate and the eye. I’m thinking of getting some bananas tomorrow and making this caramel banana one for Saturday.

Anyone else try making overnight oats?
