Another Retro Evening

Think I rode out the last bit of my DOS Gaming kick with some Commander Keen 2. Didn’t get very far though – kept dying in Mountain Dew. Thus ending my DOS Gaming Spree… for now. I’ll probably play something slightly less retro tomorrow. 😛

Duke on Deck

Man, these DOS Games look so perfect on the Steam Deck! DOS era game UI’s have what feels like a perfect fit on the screen. I made it to Level 3 in Episode 1. I immediately remembered why I took a long break from Duke Nukem II: The Damn Spiders…They latch onto you and drain your life until they kill you… unless you shake them off by pressing left and right over and over. Something about playing it on a smaller device made it less annoying, probably because this was a another series I would have loved to see on a handheld during childhood. It’s nice to give Duke the true D-Pad Status.

All The Bandicoot Ladies

Girls Night Out Strikes Again!

Went on a small Bandicoot adventure tonight! Rescued a mask, died a ridiculous amount of tines, and even got to play as someone new-ish!

You get to play as Tawna! Well, kinda… she’s from another universe. Instead of getting captured, she actually deals a good chunk of kickass to enemies, literally. She also has a grappling hook thing that can also be used for punching baddies and far away crates. I played one of her alternate timeline missions tonight. I think I got enough out of my system for one night, even played a little linger than expected… damn dying.

He’s Trying To Shave My Bushido

Another evening, another chapter finished! It’s starting to get a little tougher, but I finished the boss battle and only managed to die a couple times. This time I played on Desktop to enjoy some 4K Goodness. I did notice there is a small Nexus selection of mods for Trek to Yomi, might have to give a couple of them a go. Apparently this game has 3 different endings, so it might give me an excuse to spruce things up for a future replay.

I might have to give Chapter 3 a go tomorrow, might as well while I’m on a roll. I might actually be able to render the last bit of my SFM project tomorrow, and that’ll give me a bit of time to chill and do Samurai things. :v

Girls Night Out in Crash 4!

Figured out how to get mods to work! Modding newer unreal engine games is surprisingly easy when the game allows for it. I decided to make it a Girls Night Out! I’ll be transferring a small collection I’m accumulating over to my Steam Deck, and maybe the TV.

Basic Braining 101

I had an accomplished afternoon of animation. It’s still a ways off from being finished, but I’m seeing a needle sized light at the end of the tunnel. I decided to celebrate the last bit of my evening with a bit of Psychonauts, another game I need to finish. This game is small enough space wise that I should just install it on my Steam Deck to grind away at. I promised myself that I wouldn’t buy the sequel until I finish the first game. 😛

New Ways To Crash

Crash looking onward towards a bunch of pretty lights emitting from an evil castle.

I decided to spend the Sunset part of my evening playing Crash Bandicoot 4, I got it over my vacation from a friend as a present! It runs nicely on my 4K Desktop, still need to try it out on Deck. I had a friend watch me play it, and it does take some getting used to. They changed the game mechanics a bit by adding double jumping and reality phasing.

By equipping a special mask, it allows you to shift between dimensions and access ethereal looking platforms and crates. Part of me always wanted to stand inside of a Nitro box. :v I played a few levels before deciding to call it a night. Let’s see how long I can last on Retro Mode! 😛

Now it’s time for me to crash for realz.

Hello Down There!

Neera admiring the view.

I have four different saves going in Freedom Planet 2 (one for each character) and decided to give Neera a bit of progress. She takes a little bit to get used to, but I’m starting to figure out her ice staff.

They were also kind enough to throw in an in game arcade game to play at the Battlesphere! I got sucked into it enough that I even got an achievement! Really like the little details devs put into these games.

Fighting Through Light and Dark

I Found The Great Wall Of Oh Fuck

Went dancing through pretty shapes and lights in Outland! I gained the laser ability and destroyed a bunch of jellyfish. Apparently I got a “rare” achievement for finding 10 collectables. Although, looking at the global achievement stats for Outland it looks like not many have finished this game. Thanks to the Steam Deck though I might change that… a little. I seem to really like playing Metroidvanias on it, it just feels right.

As simple as it is in design – it does present a fun challenge. Time is literally everything in getting through some of these obstacles. If you’re red (dark) the red beams won’t hurt you, same if you turn blue (light) and run through the blue beams.

Timing, it’s everything.
