Returned to the battlegrounds of Trick & Tear! Finished a couple of levels before calling it a night. I’ve spent so much time Quakeing and Castlevainiaing that I haven’t given myself time to go over this deadly wad of deadliness. As usual there are more pictures in my post over at Mastodon, or your choice of Fediverse.
Spooktober
Come Chill By Da Fountain
It’s Oct 1st, and you know what that means? IT’S SPOOKTOBER!!! The month where I knock the cobwebs off of the spookier titles in my library in an attempt to finish them., or at the very least put a dent in some progression. I spent the final hour of my evening immersing myself in Amnesia: The Dark Descent, where I’ve managed to successfully outrun the invisible Water Creature and arrive in some unexplored territory.
Found multiple journal entries and notes, helping to further along the story. I’m currently trying to get some sort of elevator working, just found a key to the machinery room before calling it a night. I found a few cogs, but there are a few other parts of the machine that will require another evening of proper investigation. There’s a reality awaiting me in the morning that I must return to, the Derp Descent awaits.
Back 4 Blood: 1st Impressions
Yutram and I decided to check out Back 4 Blood tonight. He just recently got it during the Halloween Sale on Steam, and I’ve had it for awhile but never got around to playing it. Given that it’s Hallow’s Eve, we figured this would be the perfect night to check it out!
It’s like a mix of Left 4 Dead, Borderlands 2, and a similar reward system you find in Quake Champions. It has a card system that will buff or de-buff your game on each level, and each character has different stats and abilities. You can also purchase additional improvements for your character and weapons before each match, kinda like Counter Strike, or would it be Terror Strike in this case? 😛 We had a good time playing tonight, and now that we have an idea of how to play the game we’ll have to play it again soon.
Thus concludes another Spooktober! It’s been fun keeping to a theme, pretty easy with my collection… did I actually finish any games? No, but I did progress in a lot of them and earned the achievements to prove it! I even started some new adventures. Maybe tomorrow I’ll celebrate with something that may or may not be spooky.
Options – I haz them.
Thinking With Horror, and Maybe Portals
Tonight I wandered down the realm of Science, you monsters!Made it most of the way through my accumulated collection of Portal 2 Horror Maps! Some involving murderous mannequins, escape rooms, and a PT inspired level!
One of the maps I downloaded is called Chell Comits Tax Fraud aka the Portal equivalent of PT. In fact there wasn’t much in the way of using Portals tonight. Most of the maps I played were basically walking simulators, or if The Stanley Parable had a horror bend to it.
Another fun map that I played was Basement Horrors. When it originally launched the map was able to shuffle itself in such a way to randomize your experience on each run. Though that mechanic is broken now, it is still playable to the end.
Though that mechanic is broken now, it is still playable to the end. It’s still quite easy to die if you’re not careful, but as you die each time it becomes more like a memory game. Kinda like Simon, if Simon was a murderous game.
Now I can properly declare my horror scratch to be officially itched for tonight! Now to rest and contemplate the next adventure…
Dawning of a Dying Light
Got some cobwebs dusted off my eternal gaming backlog tonight, and kept it Spooktober themed in the process! Tonight I tested my mettle at Zombie Parkour in Dying Light. I made it past the first level, did a little city sight seeing and even grabbed a few achievements. The controls took a little getting used to, but it’s basically Dead Island: Parkour Edition (it’s even developed by the same company). It also has co-op and mod support! It’s also a Deck Verified game; I might have to consider adding it to my Steam Deck to get through it faster. I’ve already finished 9 games this year, and only a couple more months before the new one begins. Usually I finish 4, or 5 if I’m lucky.
I have a few other pix on Masto.
