Getting Myself Out There

I did a livestream finally! I didn’t really say much during said stream, but I’m glad I finally did one, and the video quality was excellent. I haven’t decided if I’ll do another one tomorrow, or if I’ll jump back into video making mode. I kinda have a long week ahead of me and I’m leaning towards having a little fun.

One thing I need to do is learn to talk to no one during a stream. I had little to no audience the entire evening, and instinctively I really only talk if someone is around. Perhaps I should think of a list of things to talk about.

We Did A Stream!

Last night we decided to finish the Commander Lillith DLC for Borderlands 2. I opted to stream only to Twitch due to copyright bots. So far this has been my most successful BL2 livestream despite some audio issues early on. You can even watch this at up to 1440p! I think I finally found my recording/streaming sweet spot. Now I’ll have to see what other games I can pull off.

In Space No One Can Hear You Shooting Badasses!

We settled on livestreaming some Borderlands Pre-Sequel this evening.I’m not sure why I’m having such an issue streaming and recording at the same time. My GPU isn’t lagging, and my framerate stays above the 100’s usually. The only lag and choppiness I see is on livestream, and if I record or stream separately it seems to do fine. I have more than enough processing and GPU power to handle this older title, the only thing I can think of is this is an NVidia title, and it doesn’t want to comply with my hardware. I’ll have to make sure my OBS settings are fine for recording on the laptop next time…

Other than that I enjoyed a good breakfast, did some overdue tidying, and cleaned my sheets for a good night’s rest.

A Livestream A Day Keeps My Sanity At Bay

Here are a couple:

Last night I had fun losing myself in Skyrim, and tonight I had fun on another lesbian gaycation with best lesbian friend Yutram. We’ve decided to tackle the Commander Lillith DLC again, but with our Sirens instead of Mechronancers. It was either this or Bayonetta for the stream, and co-op sounded more fun.

Day 1 Of Vacation Complete

My first day of vacation couldn’t be better. I pretty much stayed in bed half the day, hung out with friends in the Gmod cinema with bed and breakfast, and even had time to do a livestream tonight! I’ve been wanting to play Dam It for so long, and now I can say that I’ve tried it. Dam It is a campaign that was originally made by Turtle Rock Studios (creators of the original Left 4 Dead) and it was supposed to take place in between Dead Air and Blood Harvest. While playing through this it is quite evident by the amount of developer textures, empty spaces and invisible models. We were also going to check out a completed fan version afterwards but ran into technical difficulties. Still, I had fun. Then again I’m the kind of person that likes looking at the development and hidden things in games, like with Skyrim’s secret worlds and the craziness that was the Half Life 2 leak.

Sometime during my time off I will be looking at moving the websites(s) over to Digital Ocean, but first the private email server will be a top priority. I plan to tear into that in a few days… my body is currently in relax mode.

Here’s to a week and a half of not having to worry about selfish asshats!

Let The Gaycation Begin!

I did a couple Skyrim livestreams to kick off my vacation today! Might do some more tomorrow, tonight was fun playing with Melons in front of a larger than usual audience.

I’ve been packing my gaming laptop with fun stuff to do during the trip. The first two days are going to be a long stretch and I want to make sure I can keep myself occupied. I’ve even installed some multiplayer games on the chance Bro and I have time to play a game together at a hotel or something. I have a power inverter that is strong enough for my portable gaming rig, so I’ll have plenty to do assuming the movement of the car combined with whatever is on screen at the time causes me motion sickness.

Who the hell is Shock Entertainment Pty?

I received a couple copyright claims from last night’s stream… because of copyrighted ambience?

Hi Overlord Tomala,

A copyright owner using Content ID claimed some material in your video.

This is not a copyright strike. This claim does not affect your account status.

There are either ads running on your video, with the revenue going to the copyright owner, or the copyright owner is receiving stats about your video’s views.

  • Video title: Back to the Bawderlands… 2
  • Copyrighted content: Wurmwater Ambience
  • Claimed by: Shock Entertainment Pty

The second one was “Oasis Ambience” and claimed by the same company. Last night Yutram and I were playing some Borderlands 2 DLC, and there were two areas in it called The Oasis, and Wurmwater. Apparently streaming this DLC will earn you more than one copyright claim should you venture beyond the oasis. What’s strange about this is Shock Entertainment Pty doesn’t merit much of a result for me on search engines, other than a link to a video website in their name and a video by Angry Joe with Shock Entertainment Pty being in the description for the video under the list of copyright claims that were not resolved. They don’t even have a Wikipedia presence, something smells fishy. :morty:

This begs the question; why is an Australian website that primarily deals in video releases (if it’s even them) trying to claim copyright on ambience that game developers put in place in a game that I paid, and have every right to stream? How am I, a consumer, supposed to know ahead of time what I can and can’t stream based on ambient tracks? Music? I can understand them copyright claiming something if I’m using a song or something… but ambient tracks? This might make me consider ditching YouTube for streaming and going with Twitch, and maybe syndicate to Mixer. I don’t want to cut my streaming ties with YouTube, but if they want to lay claim to something that I can’t even control apart from completely removing the background audio then I’d rather just use YouTube for video releases only. As it is I get more traffic on Twitch than I do on YouTube, so it wouldn’t really be that big of a loss. I just wouldn’t want to part with the few people that have no reason to join other platforms like Twitch or Mixer… unless of course Twitch offered me the big bux. Can’t be choosy in this economy.

I’m going to ponder this a bit more before coming to a final conclusion, but here’s what I’m thinking; I could either drop YouTube completely, or do it on a case by case basis. If one of my streams receives another copyright claim I will no longer stream that game on YouTube. Borderlands 2 is already on that list. Perhaps I’ll even generate a list of games not to stream on YouTube just to have as a reference. I’ll even give it a page all its own. This doesn’t really do much harm to me since I need 1,000 subscribers before I can even think about making a penny off YouTube (a number I doubt I’ll ever get to), but for those that do this is poses a problem. What if I did make money off that platform and I edited down my video as I usually end up doing, and I find that whatever background ambience playing in the background gets a copyright claim or a strike and now any revenue made on the video that I put my own time and work into will go to the copyright owners of background noise instead?

Well, now I’ll have something to watch for when I do finally get around to editing the video footage, :zorak: I’ll also look further into Shock Entertainment Pty to see if I can find out anything else, and I’ll write about my findings.

Borderlands 2 Double Feature! Plus other stuff

Yutram and I pretty much had the weekend off together, and what better way to spend it than to tear into some new free DLC that recently released for Borderlands 2? It was so fun that we ended up doing an encore stream! We’ve finished it, or at least the main quest line. There are still quite a few side quests to complete.

I’m not sure why, but Unreal games (Borderlands series, AMID EVIL) that I’ve played so far don’t seem to like me stream and recording on the same system. Fortunately I have my laptop setup just in case something like this happens. There is this handy NDI plugin you can use if you have two computers in your house and a fast network connection. I streamed my desktop game to my laptop via OBS Studio, and had it livestream out to Twitch and YouTube… I’m contemplating Mixer too, but I’m not sure yet.

Aside from my own nerdy hobbies I did take the time to give myself a good breakfast, and even painted my toenails for the first time in years. Been wearing sandals moreso during the weekends due to the crazy summer weather we’re having. It was nice to have a relaxing weekend though, no pain or stress. I’m thinking next week I’ll do a little more cleaning, or perhaps some baking some breakfast muffins or something. I’m thinking of packing breakfasts for lunch since my appetite is pretty dead in the morning, and yet I still need some form of sustenance to keep going. If anything it could be an extra accompaniment to my daily yogurt lunch. I was also thinking about yogurt parfaits and smoothie bowls. For now I’m experimenting with some meal bars and shakes.

I’m thinking after work I’ll get back into animating the next video… maybe make an after work snack if I’m up for it.

EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER!!!!! Plus other stuff

As a way to chill Yutram and I decided to play a little bit of a custom L4D2 campaign during livestream this evening… big mistake:

While I like the aesthetic so far, the whole map seems difficult to navigate, and not just because of the endless hordes this game creams its jeans over. I like exploring levels, and they make it difficult in this game to do just that… I’m not sure if this is in the map design itself, the AI Director executing the commands, or a little of both. But I do remember a time when L4D2 didn’t use the endless horde routine, it seemed less boring to have random hordes instead of just an endless crowd.

Other than our misadventures in L4D2 I did finish setting up SFM under Linux the rest of the way this afternoon if I don’t get myself lost on “script writing”, or rather taking notes on which segments to animate, and how to start and end each video. Probably my most favorite part next to doing the animated portions.

But for now sleep needs to happen, that also seems to be when my brain becomes its most creative it seems… as most of the things that come out of it aren’t things that I would typically ponder during daylight hours.

Another dump of recent streams

I did two different ones yesterday:

For tonight’s stream we did more L4D2, but with the addition of mods. We did our old school admin shenanigans, and wandered the streets of Japan to try and complete a Daedric Princes’ shopping list.

Part of the stream appears to be missing on YouTube for whatever reason (at least at the time of posting this).. however you can watch the full version on Twitch if you want.
