XBox Fitness goes the way of the Zune dodo

It seems like the only real consistent thing about Microsoft is their ability to shut down games and programs that people use. This time XBox Fitness is the next target.

“Given the service relies on providing you with new and exciting content regularly, Microsoft has given much consideration to the reality of updating the service regularly in order to sustain it,” Microsoft’s Erica Bell wrote in the announcement. “Therefore, the decision has been made to scale back our support for Xbox Fitness over the next year… While our team is saddened by this news, we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past two and a half years.”

I don’t know why people continue to support a company that has this sort of a track record, other than blind fanboyism and people who don’t know shit from shinola about Microsoft’s history. But as long as they continue to support such a flake of a company it’ll keep happening and happening.

The Selfie Statue… It’s a thing

Brought to us by good ol Texas!

Some residents of Sugar Land, Texas, say they’ve been left with a bitter taste in their mouths after a city-approved selfie statue was recently erected outside City Hall.

Not so sweet, eh?

The selfie statue and another statue, of a seated man playing a guitar, cost an estimated $32,500 combined, including $10,000 for installation, according to the agenda. Along with four lesser-valued pieces, the statues cost $77,660. The cost of the entire 10-piece collection was unclear. It is also unclear how much money was donated.

To be fair, the statues do look extremely well done including the selfie one… I can understand the other statues though, the selfie one I don’t get. But meh, everything’s bigger in Texas… Including Selfie Stupidity.

The stuff tumors are made of

I went out for a walk earlier today (wanted ingredients for some salsa) and I heard one of the neighbors across the street say this to someone: “I’ll have you know that I still own those shorts and…” then my brain shut off immediately to protect itself from a tumor. What the fuck kind of a statement is that to make?

Maybe this can be a game in it’s own right. What would you finish that statement with?

Windows 10 upgrade prevents guy from checking out of hotel

1zf8xx6jDR-14
Here we go again.

I don’t know what’s more stupid, the IT’s at the hotel disabling Windows Update so this doesn’t happen, or Microsoft for not thinking of all the doom and gloom people have to put up with when having to deal with their pushy OS.

“My hotel can’t check me out because their computer decided to just go for it & is currently in the middle of updating itself to Windows 10,” he said.

It’s pretty bad when Hotel California has fewer restrictions. I mean you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave. Maybe Microsoft got the idea from The Eagles, but like every other idea they’ve stolen they got it bassackwards.

One hell of an identity theft story

Man, what a crazy story.

Today’s Minneapolis Star-Tribune has the first-person account of St. Paul resident Austin, who has spent the last decade dealing with myriad problems caused by a man who lives only a few towns over, but who has been misusing Austin’s Social Security number to buy cars, open lines of credit, and even get health insurance.

The pisser is that the authorities won’t do anything about it.

He claims that his attempts to get local law enforcement to care have been fruitless, even when police were presented with a folder containing several years’ worth of evidence and a definitive paper trail.

According to Austin, a St. Paul Police Dept. sergeant told him, “The only way we can really do anything is if you capture him on video using your card.”

That’s cold. You’d think with a large collection of evidence the police would be more than willing to shove their boots up the guy’s ass. I’d be furious.

Valve, you’ve gone too far.

Some of you might remember awhile back when I wrote about the pro’s and con’s of Steam, where I pointed out the good and bad with their recent choices. Probably one of the biggest points I touched on was the Steam Mobile Authenticator. I went into detail about how dependent Steam is on having your account tethered to a cell phone at the client level. But what about people who run dedicated servers for TF2, CS:GO, etc? I’m one of those people, and you want to know what the status is? Fucking stupid.

Last year I had to close down my CS:GO server when I discovered that I had to have a phone number attached to my account in order for it to function in anything but LAN mode. I decided to say screw it since it was the least popular server that I ran. Today however I noticed that for whatever reason my MvM Quickplay server was running insecure despite being set otherwise. Upon doing some research I discovered that a phone number must be associated with the Steam account the server is running off of. Oh, it’ll run. But in insecure mode, great huh? I feel like I’m being blackmailed… Either give us your phone number or your quickplay servers will never be secure again.

Fuck you Valve, and fuck the lowest common denominator for being stupid enough to get scammed, and practically forcing server owners like me to suffer the consequences of their stupid fucking actions. What the hell is the point of having a phone number tied to a server? I can at least kind of sort of see the point in clients having a phone number tied to their account for security reasons and VAC banning users who hack on an alt account tied to the same phone number, but why servers?!?!?!?!

The server software Valve provides for their Source Dedicated Servers is free, creating Steam accounts is free. It doesn’t take much to make an alt account with a cheap cellphone and a small game purchase on your account. So what fucking point are they trying to make?

Now I’m in a position where I’m contemplating if it’ll be worth it to get a cheap android to prevent this from happening to my other servers, or if I should just shut down when their time eventually comes. My MvM server was one of the more popular TF2 servers in my collection and I hate seeing it go because of Valve wanting a fucking cell number. If I do get an android though I’ll only use it for my alt server account. I’ll remove the battery and shove it in the drawer when I’m done. I fucking hate this.

The Russians and their amazing version of reality.

Can someone explain to me how anyone would think this is real?

This morning the Russian embassy in the UK tweeted an image with the message, “Extremists near Aleppo received several truckloads of chemical ammo.” The only problem with the tweet? The image they used is from the video game Command & Conquer.

That’s right up there with this story about a Russian Documentary about War Propaganda during World War 1, with TF2 fan art being totally a part of what actually happened.

Foolih fools! Everyone knows soldiers don’t eat babies… just Dick Cheney.

I’m not sure this is how Microsoft wanted to advertise their latest OS

One of the many reasons I’ve held off from upgrading to Windows 10 is the fact that I don’t have control over when updates occur. Some say that it isn’t so bad, but clearly they haven’t been in the middle of something when it decides that it wants to restart. Some strange occurrences have been taking place recently, from upgrade prompts showing up on local weather reports to PC Gaming streamers getting hit with updates, Microsoft is getting more of the wrong publicity.

Windows-10-Flom-compressor

This guy (who already runs Windows 10) had his game session interrupted by an update even after changing the settings. I would be seriously pissed if that happened to me, especially if I was working on a project or Streaming for my friends. Of course, we all know Microsoft’s love for PC at this point, otherwise this would have been fixed before or not long after release.

Today’s weather forecast: UPGRADE BITCH!!!!

As I’ve said before, I’m not upgrading until they get rid of that problem, and a bunch of other problems… Until then Windows 7 and CentOS work swimmingly.
