Some Penguin Approved Gaming And Chill

I kicked back today with a good breakfast, a little photo work, and lots of Linux gaming. Took a bit of a break from using Proton to play some native Linux TF2 and Dusk. Apparently in Discord it reads that I’m playing hl2_linux instead of TF2, that made me chuckle a bit. The last time I played TF2 under Linux it kept giving me stack errors, nice to see they’ve fixed it.

I prepped my laptop on the Linux side for some fun lunch time shenanigans tomorrow. Since DMC5 runs so well on my Manjaro desktop setup with pure AMD hardware I want to see how well it runs on my laptop with Intel/NVidia. I did a quick test launch and it automatically detected the best settings, always a good sign! It even sees the proper refresh rate (144hz). Should make for a fun, scientific lunch break. I also installed a few Portal 2 mods in case I wanted to do somewhat actual not actual science.

Weekend Of Linux Stuffs

My attempts to try and run this game into the ground have been futile. Other than issues with FOV during cutscenes Devil May Cry 5 continues to run, and at decent framerates despite the eyecandy being cranked to max. My attempts to mod this game on the other hand have proven to be a bit of an issue… I can install and run Vortex, but it only renders as a black window. I can also run Fluffy Manager 5000 but for some reason it doesn’t see the mod folder. Modding will take further science, but aside from that I’m still impressed with how well Devil May Cry 5 performs.

I’m also happy to report that I finally finished the 4th and final part of the Skyrim saga! I’m going to work on the video thumbnails tomorrow, and from there work out release dates, and of course start project prep for the Broforce vids.

I think I have everything pieced together the way I like. I’m running xfce with two tool bars. The one on the bottom is my Linux studio tools. I even installed Photoshop for shits and giggles, and the once in a blue moon chance I decide to use it. It kinda feels mac-ish sitting there on the desktop like that, only cooler looking because I’m outside of their walled garden. 😛

Now… I wonder what would be good for a future Linux livestream. 😛

Add Devil May Cry 5 To The List Of Recommended Playable Linux/Proton Games

Well… I might not be able to get the first three DMC games to run under Proton, but their latest game DMC5 runs almost perfectly. I’ve only played three levels, but so far it has been just as stable as it is under Windows. The only problem that I’ve found is that it has issues rendering FOV and background/foreground blur during cutscenes.

Graphical glitches aside; DMC5 has been just as impressive performance wise as the RE2 remake. Next time I play I’ll see how it handles recording and mods, though something tells me the latter will be identical in process to Windows.

Overlord May Die

I took a break from website work this evening to chillax and play some modded DMC5 in front of a live studio audience. I’m playing on Son Of Sparda and I’m doing waaaaaaaay better than I thought I would. So far it’s just extra demons it throws at you, and I’ve been able to carry myself for the most part. I’ve only used one Gold Orb so far… I have a feeling when I get to Urizen and Virgil I’ll be gobbling them up like candy. I even got to play with another player in co-op! I heard rumor from Bayonetta man that there was a mod to allow for proper co-op play, but apparently I didn’t look hard enough for it on the nexus. It looks like someone else had it installed while I happened to be playing tonight… it was cool! I’ll definitely have to obtain it now! Killing demons is much more fun with a buddy anyways.

Hope everyone is staying safe with their hobbies, and not stealing toilet paper from each other. :zorak:

Adventures in modding DMC5

On and off these last few weeks I’ve been tinkering with loading DMC5 through Vortex Mod Manager. Everything was going soooooo well until it deletes my save data every time I launch DMC5 through it. My NG+ stuff is gone and everything. I’m not entirely butthurt though because I didn’t get too far into my 2nd playthrough, that and I’ve been having fun with mods. Here are a few that I can recommend starting with the Ichigo reskin featured above:

I gave V a Saint’s Row type of reskin, and also gave him a Death Note book, after all this is basically Kylo Ren in his more upbeat years (this is my universe and I can deem it as such dammit).

I also replaced the Style Announcer with Solid Snake, and they actually got David Hayter to record custom lines for this mod! How cool is that?!?! When I first downloaded the mod I thought it was just audio ripped from other games (as that tends to be the trend with these announcer mods) but was surprised when Snake said my style was “Dummy Thicc”. That is just too awesome for words. I could almost picture Snake sitting on the couch next to me just randomly yelling these lines while I play… almost.

I Regret Nothing

This is turning into one of those games that can’t be easily put down. I played for a couple hours last night, and then I woke up and played a bit in bed. It helped my computer generate some heat to keep the bedroom warm, handy when you wake up to cold weather. I’ve continued playing it through the evening and so far I’ve been enjoying it. I’m playing on Human difficulty and it feels a little too easy though compared to the older games. I’m thinking when I do my second playthrough I’ll bump up the difficulty, and even install some mods. The Nexus already has a few things that have piqued my interest.

So far I’ve played as Nero, V and Dante. V seems easier to play compared to Dante or Nero, but still takes some getting used to since his fighting style is quite a bit different. Instead of fighting straight on you wear your enemies down using your familiars, and then once the enemies turn purple you can successfully go in for the kill with your cane. There is a sort of yin and yang at play here, because your demon pets can’t finish off an enemy, and you can’t wear them down like Nero or Dante. I’m not sure if I have a favorite between the three; they’re all fun and they all compliment each other in fighting styles. I especially enjoy the arsenal of arms or “Devil Breakers” Nero has to choose from throughout the game.

There is a healthy selection of Devil Breakers that you’ll find throughout the game that grant you different abilities, some are insanely powerful and others exist mainly to make you question why; aside from the pic above there’s a Breaker designed with your girlfriend in mind… and no it isn’t a dildo, but may as well be. :v:

The graphics for the PC version are nicely optimized. Everything runs butter smooth on ultra, even when playing in 4K downscaled. I may have to install this on the laptop for those special days at work. :zorak:

No butts about it! PS4 version of Devil May Cry 5 censors butts

If you have the PS4 version of Devil May Cry 5 you might be disappointed to find that it has been semi-censored on the US release. Caution! The following video has lady butts, if you’re offended by lady butts or butt’s in general please move onto another post and burn any Chuck Tingle novel you may own (if it’s digital make sure to burn your electronics JUST to make sure they’re sterile).

This time it isn’t just Japan’s love for lens flares… I know censorship is a big thing in games, especially when coming from Japan, but I find it interesting that if you buy it on any other platform in the west (XBox One or PC for example) you’ll get dat ass minus the lens flares… perhaps on PS4 this will be DLC in the future?

I still find the whole thing strange though, butts are harmless on their own unless you had an explosive chili cook off… :assy: or they’re Assy McGee. Given this is limited to only the Northern PS4 release that kinda hints that someone at Sony pulled some strings as this article suggests:

So, what’s going on? Current speculation points to a recent Sony policy that appears to be about toning down sexual content on PS4. This is something that’s cropped up a few times over the past year or so. Back in October 2018, for example, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal’s PS4 release was delayed after Sony told its publisher to remove the controversial Intimacy Mode (the Steam version, by the way, included the Intimacy Mode). At the time, the game’s localisation producer said this was the result of “a brand new policy” at Sony. Was Devil May Cry 5 on PS4 changed under the same policy? We’ve asked Capcom for comment.

Not that it matters to me; I’ll be getting the PC version when it comes down in price. :melon: I have other asses to worry about in the meantime… mainly mine.

DMC5 + Microtransactions = Predictable

I guess Devil May Cry 5 is falling victim to microtransactions:

“With giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it’s something we want to give people as an option. If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that. But on the other hand I don’t feel you have to get all the moves. You should be able to play it the way you want to play it.”

Needless to say I’m not entirely surprised by the news; when DMC4:SE released it had a bunch of DLC you could purchase that would give you extra orbs, plus unlock all modes and versions of Dante, Nero and Vergil. I never bought the DLC because I wanted to play it the old school way (even though at the time it released on PC before I could get my hands on the HD collection). Still, considering this is a single player game it seems rather cheap to just purchase your way through a good portion of the game instead of earning it yourself. What’s to stop someone from modding their game instead? I could understand it better if you wanted to purchase new levels or maybe even skins. But to me it seems like they’re exploiting gamers who don’t have the patience to learn or are too lazy to mod cheats into their game… Yeah, I honestly believe there is more effort in modding or hacking your game than purchasing handicaps.

Today I played a good chunk of DMC1, and while I hate to admit that the game has kicked my ass more than I’d like to share, its still fun facing these challenges. I hate sounding like one of those asshats that despises new people coming into a game and making a big stink about not playing it the same way that I’m doing it, or how gamers these days need to have their hands held through every obstacle, and to be honest those people make me cringe… THIS however strikes a chord with me, and seems lazy for both parties. Capcom makes a buck off of lazy gamers that want a good chunk of stuff handed to them, and the gamers get what they want by opening up their wallets and throwing them at their singleplayer game.

Is this going to put me off from buying the game? No. Am I going to pre-order? I already said in a previous thread no. I’ll buy the game, but I’m filing it under Shadow Of The Tomb Raider status: I’ll get to it when the prices go down. I have enough on my plate as it is, like meeting up with friends in other games to smoke a fucking eyeball.

Much like this picture I just find this use of microtransactions to be rather ridiculous. Now excuse me while I smoke a fat eyeball and hit the hay.

Here’s what you’ll need to run DMC5 on PC

Here’s the information I’ve been waiting for:

Something tells me my systems will be ready upon arrival. I probably won’t by it for pre-order or on day one, but I do want to pick this up once I confirm its a decent port, RE6’s benchmarks were impressive, and I’m hoping this won’t be any different. For now I’ll just enjoy the HD Collection, the other games, my entire game library, streaming, linux testing…

I forgot how to be bored. :v:

Obligatory E3 Thread

E3 is in session, and already I’ve seen some cool games and concepts that I’m already looking forward to getting my hands on. I’ve decided to compile a list from today’s findings. featuring flashy trailers!

Having played The New Order and Colossus I was filled with extreme hype when I saw them mention Wolfenstein: Youngblood. It features what I’m guessing are the daughters of B.J Blaskowitz, two specifically to represent a coop mode. My only concern being if it’ll be coop only or if it’ll feature a single player campaign like all the other games. I’d also like the idea of a local coop, for playing with someone on the couch. 😛 As another small note I wonder how long it’ll take before someone gets their knickers in a twist over these two characters for having knickers.

Skyrim is one of the most ported games in existence. You can play it on XBox360, PS3, PC Thrice, XBoxOne, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and now Amazon Alexa. No word for how mod support will be rolled out, but I imagine telling Alexa to buy things over Creation Club should be easy peasy.

Available right now for free, some fun looking DLC for Prey that rolls out three new modes: Story Mode, New Game+ Mode, and Survival Mode which looks like it has some elements of Prop Hunt in it. Looks like it could be fun, I’ve been meaning to get back into Prey… Curse my many distractions. :v:

I loved DOOM2016, and when they announced they were going to make a sequel I was pretty hyped. The trailer seems to be set in what I think might be New Jersey.

Then there’s Fallout 76. This one I have mixed feelings about; mainly due to the online play. I’m wondering if it will be mainly PvP, or if it will let you just play PvE with friends. They show quite a bit of gameplay, and it does look like fun. But it also looks like it could be a big trollfest if not executed properly.

Then after watching Bethesda’s presentation I ventured to my RSS feeds and found this potential cherry waiting to be plucked:

A new Devil May Cry game, something I’ve been anticipating for awhile now. It follows Dante and Nero, ready to kick all kinds of demon ass with some new friends and even new equipment. I can’t say I like Nero’s Justin Bieber look (I almost mistook him for DmC Dante), but Dante looked pretty swank with facial hair. Though looks aside the gameplay looks like it’ll be hella fun. I can’t wait to fuck some shit up with the mechanical arm.

This is another one I have mixed feelings about. While I had fun playing Tomb Raider, and Rise Of The Tomb Raider, it still didn’t feel like a Tomb Raider game to me… maybe more like Skyrim meets Tomb Raider. They do say though that this will be the game where she becomes the legendary badass heroine she is known the world over for. As usual the graphics do easily impress, and the gameplay looks more or less like the previous two games. I do look forward to it, I just hope for a less whiny Lara this time around. I forgave it in the reboot since this was supposed to be her origin story, but in ROTT there were certain points where it was too annoying for me. Also, Microsoft had better not pull that timed exclusive bullshit again. It didn’t make sense to do that with a game that has been on multiple platforms since the dawn of fucking time. :zorak:

Then of course the lovely Ori is back in Ori and the will of the wisps. Much like its predecessor it features the same graphics with some newer tweaks, and looks to have the same emotional pull as the first game.

Anyone else having fun watching E3?
