4 Days Later

I’ve been really busy these last couple of days. A co-worker of mine wanted me to look at her husband’s two laptops to see if they could be fixed. I managed to factory reset the first one (and took pity on the poor bloke and installed Waterfox because no one should suffer with Microsoft Edge), and the second one I’m working on at the moment seems to have a bad hard drive in it. Both laptops seem to show signs of being dropped just by reading the hard disk information, with the latter one being the worst of the set. I’m going to recommend for him to upgrade both of his drives to SSD instead of the 5400 RPM drives that currently inhabit both systems, they’ll perform much faster AND won’t be as susceptible to large bumps and drops (and tell him POLITELY to take better care of his shit).

Meanwhile at work, one of my co-workers told me that the new Tomb Raider has 1980’s Lara Croft, and when I asked him about it he meant Lara from the original game, then when I told him that came out in 1996 he said he thought the graphics looked “80”s like”. O_O He has now been demoted from nerd to digital dork. I was entertained by his excuse of being “just a kid when it came out” to which I replied that I was only one year older than him… then it turned into a conversation about me not looking entirely ancient (despite having white hair). 😛

Speaking of Tomb Raider I did notice that its having quite a sale right now despite only being out for about a month. I’m still a bit on the fence in getting it, mainly because of my own time constraints and using Linux more lately, resulting in another game in an ever expanding library that I still need to sift through. Ohhhh but it is indeed a test.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider goes gold

But not like that.

Seriously:

Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal have announced that Shadow of the Tomb Raider has officially gone gold. According to the press release, Lara’s defining moment is out of Eidos-Montréal’s hard-working hands & on its way to manufacturing.

I had fun playing the first two reboots, but I’m hoping they strive for some improvements… such as making it feel like a Tomb Raider game again, and Lara’s personality, and Lara being able to say something more than just “shit” when she gets scared. They should of hired me to do dialogue. :v:

Obligatory E3 Thread

E3 is in session, and already I’ve seen some cool games and concepts that I’m already looking forward to getting my hands on. I’ve decided to compile a list from today’s findings. featuring flashy trailers!

Having played The New Order and Colossus I was filled with extreme hype when I saw them mention Wolfenstein: Youngblood. It features what I’m guessing are the daughters of B.J Blaskowitz, two specifically to represent a coop mode. My only concern being if it’ll be coop only or if it’ll feature a single player campaign like all the other games. I’d also like the idea of a local coop, for playing with someone on the couch. 😛 As another small note I wonder how long it’ll take before someone gets their knickers in a twist over these two characters for having knickers.

Skyrim is one of the most ported games in existence. You can play it on XBox360, PS3, PC Thrice, XBoxOne, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and now Amazon Alexa. No word for how mod support will be rolled out, but I imagine telling Alexa to buy things over Creation Club should be easy peasy.

Available right now for free, some fun looking DLC for Prey that rolls out three new modes: Story Mode, New Game+ Mode, and Survival Mode which looks like it has some elements of Prop Hunt in it. Looks like it could be fun, I’ve been meaning to get back into Prey… Curse my many distractions. :v:

I loved DOOM2016, and when they announced they were going to make a sequel I was pretty hyped. The trailer seems to be set in what I think might be New Jersey.

Then there’s Fallout 76. This one I have mixed feelings about; mainly due to the online play. I’m wondering if it will be mainly PvP, or if it will let you just play PvE with friends. They show quite a bit of gameplay, and it does look like fun. But it also looks like it could be a big trollfest if not executed properly.

Then after watching Bethesda’s presentation I ventured to my RSS feeds and found this potential cherry waiting to be plucked:

A new Devil May Cry game, something I’ve been anticipating for awhile now. It follows Dante and Nero, ready to kick all kinds of demon ass with some new friends and even new equipment. I can’t say I like Nero’s Justin Bieber look (I almost mistook him for DmC Dante), but Dante looked pretty swank with facial hair. Though looks aside the gameplay looks like it’ll be hella fun. I can’t wait to fuck some shit up with the mechanical arm.

This is another one I have mixed feelings about. While I had fun playing Tomb Raider, and Rise Of The Tomb Raider, it still didn’t feel like a Tomb Raider game to me… maybe more like Skyrim meets Tomb Raider. They do say though that this will be the game where she becomes the legendary badass heroine she is known the world over for. As usual the graphics do easily impress, and the gameplay looks more or less like the previous two games. I do look forward to it, I just hope for a less whiny Lara this time around. I forgave it in the reboot since this was supposed to be her origin story, but in ROTT there were certain points where it was too annoying for me. Also, Microsoft had better not pull that timed exclusive bullshit again. It didn’t make sense to do that with a game that has been on multiple platforms since the dawn of fucking time. :zorak:

Then of course the lovely Ori is back in Ori and the will of the wisps. Much like its predecessor it features the same graphics with some newer tweaks, and looks to have the same emotional pull as the first game.

Anyone else having fun watching E3?

Evening Open Thread

Today I thought I’d do something a little different and play Portal 2 in splitscreen with my bro. We both have Steam Controllers, it felt nice to play a bit on the couch. We didn’t play for very long, fatigue and puzzles don’t match well with my brain.

On another note: There have been a couple of teaser trailers that caught my eye today. The first one regarding the new Tomb Raider coming out.

I’ve seen people speculating that classic Lara is returning, but I’m not too sure about that. Best to wait and see when a full trailer surfaces in April. Then I saw this trailer introducing a new character for the new Soul Calibur game:

The way Geralt said he hated portals… Someone needs to mod Geralt into Portal 2 to replace either Chell or one of the co-op bots. If that were the case I wonder who his companion would be, Triss perhaps?

New Tomb Raider game in the works

I guess a new Tomb Raider is in the works. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is supposed to be releasing September on the 14th. Not much is really known about the game yet apart from some footage from a pre-announcement press thingy.

What’s interesting about this is the fact that Crystal Dynamics won’t have any involvement in the development of this game. Eidos Montreal will be working on it instead. I’m guessing they’re going to keep a similar formula from the past two games, although it would be nice if they did get back to their roots… but hey, we do have a remastering of the original 3 coming to PC so at least there’s that.
