Continuing My Adventures in NieR Automata

I spent the gaming part of the weekend in the world of NieR Automata — continuing to find quests and other strange things I didn’t catch during my previous playthrough as 2B. Father Servo is at a level where I need to buff up a bit before I can butt fuck him up the dick, I got to meet a man that literally wanted to build a family, destroyed machines with a giant pig, and I found the grave of the baby king that someone beat me to killing.

I was chatting with a co-worker about playing this over my vacation, and he told me he couldn’t get into the game because it just didn’t make sense… I don’t think it’s supposed to, and for some reason it actually works.

NieRing The End Of My Vacation

It was a cold afternoon, and it only felt right to heat the living room with a proper game. I’ve been playing through NieR Automata, this time taking my time on the 2B story-line to make sure I get as many quests out of the way as possible. I’ve already found a couple characters that I don’t remember seeing on my previous playthrough:

I was hopping from building to building, when I noticed in the distance a lone machine on a neighbouring rooftop. When making the jump over a surrounding barrier surrounded us with the puny machine. After kicking his ass he introduces himself as Father Servo; a lone machine monk, and this rooftop is his dojo. He’s already sent me on a few quests as “payment” for the ass kicking that he kept asking of 2B and 9S. Every time I doubled back around in between side quests I would usually find a bigger more badass Father Servo:

This last fight took a bit of grinding! Fortunately I had a lot of supplies on hand to deliver a proper beating. I’ve already left him with parts to make himself even stronger than before, so I imagine the next time I pay him a visit he’ll fully cripple my hands from all the button pressing…

This was another character I missed on my previous playthrough, probably because of the bit of grinding required to finish it and other quests being closer. We had to collect enough parts to reawaken a giant machine lifeform by the name of Engels, who at this stage, seems harmless enough to the point of being bored and wanting you to tell him a story. I’d like to continue this, but I need to start getting my body out of vampire mode, and back into early riser mode for Tuesday.

It was another nice little escape. 🙂

Late Night Open Thread

I hope everyone had a Spooktacular Halloween! It was a chill evening, kinda quiet, very rainy… I did a small marathon of Ghostrunner, and finished off the evening with some more Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night, it was a Stabby Sunday Evening to say the least with quite a few trophies! Although there was some playtime with my new smartwatch! It arrived in the mail yesterday, and after some trial and error I did finally get my smartwatch configured! I bit the bullet and bought a pinetime — I figured for $25 was safe to blow on what is essentially a wearable science experiment. I have it running the latest firmware from Infinitime (1.6.0) and it seems to be behaving. I’ll do a write up on it after getting to know it a wee bit more. I’d also looking into properly customizing it, and what hellish rituals I’ll have to go through to get it to my liking.

This Weekend In Gaming: Platinum Edition

I figured after an unfabulous week I would play a couple of fabulous games, and VRChat (we’ll save that for another post). Yesterday I completed a few chapters in Bayonetta. I’m having to replay it again due to losing a save file somehow, but that just gives me a chance to knock some of the rust off of her moveset.

I also wanted to check back into NieR Automata now that it received a patch to fix certain plaguing the game since launch. As a result I can do proper OBS recordings now! I can definitely recommend the game now that it isn’t bound to 720p without additional modding, and I might even buy the DLC during a future sale. I should also make time to play both of these on the big screen, that way I can torture everyone in the house with Bayonetta’s finishing moves. 😛

Now that I have the OBS issues taken care of with NieR Automata — I’ll have to livestream it at somepoint, and also return to streaming Bayonetta. I’ve already begun on animating part 2 of the Bayonetta video series, and also the semi-secret holiday video. 😛 I’ll be returning to either of those tomorrow now that I’ve had a couple days of play.

My BloodRayne Of Terror Begins

To kick off the weekend I decided to try a new/old game. I played a tiny bit of the original BloodRayne a long time ago, and ended up shelving it due to control issues, like proper controller support. I recently discovered that I had the Remastered version given to me for free since I own the original copy! It has controller support! But I couldn’t get it to perform to my liking on the Steam Controller, and I opted to use a keyboard and mouse only to remember there were a lot of buttons I was probably not going to remember. I opted to make my own Steam Controller Config based on the game’s keyboard and mouse settings, that way I have the convenience of a controller with the precision of a keyboard and mouse. It isn’t too surprising that it runs perfectly under Proton, being this is an older game despite it being a remaster. I just hope I’ll actually be able to finish it; I’ve had a couple friends tell me they couldn’t progress a long time ago due to a certain game mechanic.

Hopefully I don’t run into that problem in this version.

Anime Souls

Maintain six feet ahead of me, or you’re going to maintain six feet under me.

This was one of the many purchases I made during the sale. CODE VEIN is basically Dark Souls with an anime skin, and I’ve really been loving it. It somehow managed to suck 4 hours away from me,and I’m pretty sure the first hour was fucking around with different character options.

Dude where’s my blood beads?

You are reborn as a Reverent; A being that uses Blood Codes which give you different fighting abilities and options. As you play you can pick and choose your play style to be more melee based, mage like, and plenty more to discover. So far in my play through I’ve obtained 4 Blood Codes, and have already maxed three of them out. You go around fighting other Reverent beings, or rather “The Lost” who are Reverent who have become bloodthirsty. You, and people you eventually meet are trying to find more blood beads, which help sustain you and your Reverent buddies. This game is indeed very souls like, with multiple partners to choose from if you want a companion to tag along of either the human or AI variety.

No one pisses off the albino SheDevil and gets away with It… unless they are one powerful muthafucka.

I think I might be a little too addicted to the photo mode. I like games where I can have creative freedom, and one of the things I’ve been digging in later years is photo mode in games; it can make for some wallpaper worthy screencaps.

I’ve been awake for almost 24 hours… this bed looks like porn to me.

So far it has been a real joy to play. I needed to play something tonight to help readjust my sleep pattern, and CODE VEIN managed to keep my intrigue. This might even have to go on the list for games to bring on my gaming laptop. Another thing to scare people with during lunch breaks! I find people are less likely to bug me if they see me stabbing something and pretending it was someone who really pissed me off earlier in my shift.

So far, I would say that if you like Dark Souls and don’t mind anime aesthetics there is a good chance you’ll enjoy this.

Weekend May Cry

I broke down and actually played a game outside of my lunch time! I’ve been so busy lately with work and other activities lately that I’ve barely had a chance to turn my computer on. I’ve done more gaming at work lately than I have at home, and that was enough for me to break down and play a game. It’s my Friday dammit! Time to pull out a sword and ready my ass for the kicking that is the original DMC. I had to remind myself how to play… ever walk away from a game for so long that you forget what was going on in the world around you where you last left off? It took me a little time to remind myself of the controls too, but I managed to make it past the “Dragon”.

That’s not a Dragon… that’s a T-Rex that shoots flaming loogies. I’ve decided.I played a bit of DMC5 today too on the new laptop. I had to reduce a few features on the old laptop, but on this laptop I have everything turned up, and it looks peachy at 144hz. I have been thinking somewhere down the road to look into selling my current monitors and going FreeSync. The only reason I haven’t done it any sooner is because a good chunk of what I play is already locked at 60 FPS, so why pay more to accommodate maybe 50% of what I play? To me the cost wasn’t worth it, but now that I’ve played around with G-Sync on a couple games I think I’m ready to make a couple new investments. I’ll just need to do some research and price things out. It isn’t a big priority right now, but I do see it in my future.

Overlord May Die

I took a break from website work this evening to chillax and play some modded DMC5 in front of a live studio audience. I’m playing on Son Of Sparda and I’m doing waaaaaaaay better than I thought I would. So far it’s just extra demons it throws at you, and I’ve been able to carry myself for the most part. I’ve only used one Gold Orb so far… I have a feeling when I get to Urizen and Virgil I’ll be gobbling them up like candy. I even got to play with another player in co-op! I heard rumor from Bayonetta man that there was a mod to allow for proper co-op play, but apparently I didn’t look hard enough for it on the nexus. It looks like someone else had it installed while I happened to be playing tonight… it was cool! I’ll definitely have to obtain it now! Killing demons is much more fun with a buddy anyways.

Hope everyone is staying safe with their hobbies, and not stealing toilet paper from each other. :zorak:

Adventures in modding DMC5

On and off these last few weeks I’ve been tinkering with loading DMC5 through Vortex Mod Manager. Everything was going soooooo well until it deletes my save data every time I launch DMC5 through it. My NG+ stuff is gone and everything. I’m not entirely butthurt though because I didn’t get too far into my 2nd playthrough, that and I’ve been having fun with mods. Here are a few that I can recommend starting with the Ichigo reskin featured above:

I gave V a Saint’s Row type of reskin, and also gave him a Death Note book, after all this is basically Kylo Ren in his more upbeat years (this is my universe and I can deem it as such dammit).

I also replaced the Style Announcer with Solid Snake, and they actually got David Hayter to record custom lines for this mod! How cool is that?!?! When I first downloaded the mod I thought it was just audio ripped from other games (as that tends to be the trend with these announcer mods) but was surprised when Snake said my style was “Dummy Thicc”. That is just too awesome for words. I could almost picture Snake sitting on the couch next to me just randomly yelling these lines while I play… almost.

I Regret Nothing

This is turning into one of those games that can’t be easily put down. I played for a couple hours last night, and then I woke up and played a bit in bed. It helped my computer generate some heat to keep the bedroom warm, handy when you wake up to cold weather. I’ve continued playing it through the evening and so far I’ve been enjoying it. I’m playing on Human difficulty and it feels a little too easy though compared to the older games. I’m thinking when I do my second playthrough I’ll bump up the difficulty, and even install some mods. The Nexus already has a few things that have piqued my interest.

So far I’ve played as Nero, V and Dante. V seems easier to play compared to Dante or Nero, but still takes some getting used to since his fighting style is quite a bit different. Instead of fighting straight on you wear your enemies down using your familiars, and then once the enemies turn purple you can successfully go in for the kill with your cane. There is a sort of yin and yang at play here, because your demon pets can’t finish off an enemy, and you can’t wear them down like Nero or Dante. I’m not sure if I have a favorite between the three; they’re all fun and they all compliment each other in fighting styles. I especially enjoy the arsenal of arms or “Devil Breakers” Nero has to choose from throughout the game.

There is a healthy selection of Devil Breakers that you’ll find throughout the game that grant you different abilities, some are insanely powerful and others exist mainly to make you question why; aside from the pic above there’s a Breaker designed with your girlfriend in mind… and no it isn’t a dildo, but may as well be. :v:

The graphics for the PC version are nicely optimized. Everything runs butter smooth on ultra, even when playing in 4K downscaled. I may have to install this on the laptop for those special days at work. :zorak:
