The Christmas Game Hop

Well, we’re in the official holiday season. A time to enjoy warm beverages, holiday sweets, getting close with friends and family, and murder sprees!

I kicked off the weekend by playing a custom Left 4 Dead campaign with Yutram the other night, and wow…

Dick in a concrete drum

I’m pretty sure this was a troll campaign from start to finish. We didn’t get any good weapons until the end, and what really amused me aside from the 50 tanks hidden throughout the campaign was there actually being ammo in certain places, which we couldn’t use because we had only pistols… then when we got half way through the campaign we did finally get some Tier 1 weaponry, but suddenly ammo was scarce.

Derp

I also decided to tackle the holiday DLC for Painkiller: Hell and Damnation, and all I got was this lousy hat. Actually this was just a map that already existed in the game, but was redecorated and released as free DLC for the holidays. Defeating Satan Claus gets you that hat achievement. That was one of my favorite levels from the regular game, and given that it was free I can’t really argue about it either. It was fun all around.

You shouldn’t have.

I also hopped around different Serious Sam games and found a few mods here and there. I also went around Killing Floor 2 for a bit and got some holiday achievements. It felt therapeutic after a physically and mentally grueling week for quite a few of us at work, and playing these with spiked tea and eggnog was a nice little escape before returning to reality to do it all again.

Things that segfault in the night

Forgive the thumbnail, it’s actually Left 4 Dead that we were playing. See, we had plans to livestream one of the Castlevania games tonight, but instead opted to play a game of L4D together instead, and it was fun! We played a custom campaign together, and were actually impressed by it despite some of its flaws. It was still faaaar better than Nostalgia Critic’s The Wall tribute, that’s fo sho.

I also played a couple of other games today, Anonymous ME being one of those. It’s a side scrolling hack n slash that feels very similar to ICEY, and my god the translation they did for this is worthy of a livestream at some point methinks, it’s as bad as the combat is good. I did have to take a break after approaching the first boss though, sooooo much thumb mashing.

This was taken from AaAaAa a reckless disregard for gravity, from the same indie company that brought us Drunken Robot Pornography, an indie company that I’m sure runs on weed 24/7 when in the development process. This game is basically a stylish falling simulator with other bits of weirdness in it, such as the ability to flip people off or give a thumbs up while falling, unlocking good and bad meditation, and the news that gets reported at midnight every few minutes when it isn’t midnight. Another one I need to add to the list of games I need to stream/finish, though there appears to be not much to it other than to earn teeth (game currency) and unlock different levels.

These are great things to think of before bed…

Sunday Night Open Thread

I was feeling a little artsy today and decided to play around in Shotcut and build the final scene for this episode I’m working on. Just need to find the time to do the voice recording and then off to animating. I also took a break and played the Linux port of Trine, Played a bit of Left 4 Dead as well, and we ran into one problem after another. We downloaded a fan campaign and it was so out of date that it caused both of us as well as the server to crash, resulting in us playing vanilla. We played public and got some new people that did a good job holding themselves throughout the game. It’s always nice seeing new blood in an old game, really shows its success.

Unfortunately my stream audio was futzed up, so you mostly just heard game audio…  I’ve since fixed the issue, hopefully we won’t have a repeat next stream… and we’ll actually test the campaign before launching it in the first place.

Getting close to the final chapter

Well, it took almost a week, but the animation portion is all finished for the Brain4Dead finale! I’ll begin splicing it into the rest of the video tomorrow. I won’t be releasing it until next Monday though, the extra bits of polishing I need to do will make me miss my targeted Monday deadline. I also managed to take a break from animating to play a little Left 4 Dead 2 with a friend and his roommate. We made it through the campaign, and I may have more video fodder down the line.

Today was a good hobby day. We have a bad storm outside that has been pretty much been going on for over 24 hours. and I’ve been lounging, drinking some flowering oolong and enjoying some Mushu soup and some roast teriyaki pork and rice. It was leftovers from two previous dinner nights, but worked well together in smaller portions to make what seemed like a larger oriental meal. I might take the leftover pork tomorrow and make a homemade soba soup bowl for myself.

I did things

I finally had a day off where I didn’t endure any kind of pain or accidental self harm! I even managed to get a nice breakfast, a little bit of cleaning done, and even made a video of a recent Left 4 Dead gaming session plus a title card for tomorrow. I also played around some more in Source Filmmaker; mainly playing with assets. I originally wanted to have a short cold open for the video, but the Francis model kept crashing SFM making the project pointless… though I did have fun with particles.

Videos releases will continue to be semi random as I’m still in the process of grabbing footage; I just happened to have enough to release something.
